Jose Mourinho | Sacked by Roma

50% win percentage with Roma. At his peak 72% with Real Madrid and Porto.

Surely we aren’t comparing Roma with Real Madrid. Porto being the dominant team in Portugal also helps the percentage. Roma have 5 teams better or similar level to them in Serie A

He did apologize publicly to Sanches in the post game press conference btw

He did well in those KO competitions, but in the league, nothing at all:

2019-20: 5th, 70 pts, +26 GD
2020-21: 7th, 62 pts, +10 GD
Jose:
2021-22: 6th, 63 pts, +16 GD
2022-23: 6th, 63 pts, +12 GD

His league performance has really declined in last decade bar coming back to Chelsea and winning the title in his first season. If he'd stayed longer in 15/16 he probably wouldn't even have finished top half. 6th in his first season at Man. United in 16/17 and you were in similar state to now when he was sacked in 18/19.

Roma still in the mix but Atalanta win tonight and they'll be down to 8th. What's saving him a little is how poor Lazio have been themselves.

Will be same as usual, they'll concentrate on trying to win europa league to get CL that way. If they fall short he'll probably leave before end of season.

I'm surprised Mourinho hasn't gone into international management yet as he's shown his style is still effective in knock out football. Guess the timing has never been right with Portugal but you'd back him to get their squad to SF. Can also see Saudi Arabia wanting him aswell.

But he's the special one. I really thought he'd have made Roma a solid champions league level club after 3 years there yet he's floundering in 7th at Christmas time. He's become a bit of a specialist in mediocrity

Roma is a different club though. They don't spend a lot (even in their prime) and relied mainly on academy products. If you look at the amount of money they've spent and the teams above them it's normal.

In terms of the ability of the squad they have the 5th-7th best squad in the league and their league position is reflective of that. People also fail to mention that they've had a lot of injuries so far and despite being 7th are 3 points of 4th.

Napoli despite having the best squad in the league this season in comparison are only 2 points ahead of them and no one talks about them.

Mourinho just has insane expectations because of his name and his success so he gets unfair criticism all the time.

Roma was 4th just some days ago

Roma have financial constraints. He’s achieved a European trophy and another European final. Maybe he should have focused more on the league rather than one of those European runs but he’s doing fine and Roma fans are happy with him.

They lost to one of the form teams in Italy on the weekend under a very good upcoming manager

Drawn this cnut again. Fecking hate playing Mourinho. His team will be rubbish and after 2 games we're out and he'll act like god's gift to football by shithousing his 300 million euro team past our broke team of minnows.

Now tell us what you really think about him

From watching Sanches play for us, I’m surprised Mourinho is even playing him. I think if it wasn’t for that huge fee and the status that comes with it, he might struggle to get into the first team for clubs playing against relegation.

He's talking about you John Murtough, Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial.
Easy to say Rashford but Mourinho loved using Rashford and Rashford did well for him. He was one of the few young players that Mourinho consistently played.

Roma fans want his loan terminated

He also played Sanchez a lot, as he was the one who brought him in.
Yes and I'm saying that's not who Mourinho is talking about. More likely is someone like Shaw who Mourinho obviously had public issue with. There's no need to throw rashfords name where it obviously doesn't belong just because you don't like him now..

It's fairly obvious he's talking about Shaw and Martial.

Rashford was one of our main players in the Europa win.

I can easily believe this. He was a disaster for us. From start to finish. And while he has some talent, he is so poor from a tactical and technical pov, that I highly doubt he could ever play a significant role for a team that matters.

He's definitely not a Jose signing. People are here criticising Jose saying he's been backed when the 2 midfield signings he was given was Sanches on loan and Aouar on a free. Both are just mediocre players and nowhere near good enough to compete for a serie A title.

Remember when Aour was meant to be a 50m player and nearly moved to Arsenal for that kind of fee. Lyon were getting away with murder shifting average players for massive fees there for a while.

They were really good at that. Managed to sell us Tolisso for obscene money. :wenger:

Ndombele to Spurs will make you feel better. Around 60 mill pounds if I remember correctly.
Looking at their team and the league, one wonders what they did with all that money.

I'm not surprised with Mourinho praising Arnold. This is the same manager who said the Glazers are "different owners", and "they understand the culture of english football very well". And also how "the problem in modern football is society".

The guy pissed on us regular people while praising the rats, and then you have some weirdos thinking Mourinho is some sort of revolutionary icon against the Glazers when he's just another rat like them.

By the way, good memories with Renato Sanches. It was me against the whole forum (and also the Bayern scouts). Has he already learned to pass and control the ball?

Cant help but like him. He tried to inform the club of the problems in the squad and it fell on deaf ears. Having Ibra here and winning the EL was the highlight of the last decade and I felt he was hamstrung by the quality of the players we brought in.

His very highest points are glorious and will never be beaten by anyone currently in the game, and I have very fond memories of his teams at Porto and, particularly, Inter. It has a lot of my favourite players of the time in one place. He legitimized Chelsea as a force and gave them an identity as a club/team.

I can’t help but respect him and what he achieved in the game. He was brash, boisterous but he was never boring. Flawed, but extremely fun.

Wierd post. Seriously nasty individual, toxic management. Disaster for United, spent lots of money for limited return. Should never have had the job. His football was awful, nearly as bad as what ETH now serves up.

He is a legend of the game, and no nastier than a snarling Klopp. He was a great character and is great to listen to talking about football. He also won here and gave us Ibra, so it’s easy to forgive a few rants.

He built some fantastic sides, and as I said, his peaks are higher than anyone managing today. The only thing that’s weird is people not rating him. His CV is unbelievable.

"Weird post" for sharing an opinion that's different to yours?

Napoli won the league Roma barely makes top 4. They are a club with similar profile to Roma and won the league. They also qualified from their CL group easily. So what is there to say about them
