Without Kane, Son, and Eriksen, the team is completely average. You factor in that their defense has continued to age and stagnate, Ndombele has been terrible, Moura/Lamela/Alli have all been average for the past year bar a few weeks around CL semi final and Jose's appointment (Alli), and they don't play with a high tempo anymore...they should have seen this coming. Also, their PL point total has declined each of the past 3 years under Poch and now Jose.

They have run their race as Top 4 challengers. But come Sunday, they'll have a reaction at home.
 
He has no Kane or Son, so this is really no surprise. Add Eriksen to that too, it’s now a pretty bang average side.
 
You look at Mourinho's coaching especially the movement off the ball in this spurs team and it's a disgrace. Coincidentally it's also something that Solskjaer struggles with our United side but atleast the players are given some freedom to express themselves, Jose is 100% cooked as a top modern manager.

At the rumoured wage they can't afford his payoff, maybe unless they had the foresight to insert some kind of genius bailout clause that saves them having to pay the full thing.. Same club that goes summer windows without a single acquisition. They would need that money to buy new players if they can even afford it. If you're a Spurs fan who doesn't like Jose this is a bit of a nightmare situation.

The man was desperate for a job. How did they end up getting taken to the cleaners in negotiations for Jose?

Edit: Actually a 3 year contract so not as bad. Very sackable infact

The young CB tonight is crap, Sessenon was never rated a good defender, same with Aurier, and Winks and Dier aren't exactly a good pairing (slow, not too energetic nor dynamic). Their squad is pretty crap right now and already in poor form.

Making Angelino look like a world beater.
 
It's not his team. He'll be fine when he's bought 11 new players.

I am not enjoying it. He looks like a champion boxer that has had too many fights.

He's deliberately not made changes so he can say at FT that he had no options and it was the best they can do. Embarrassing 2nd half considering they need 3 goals. Better to lose 4-1 chasing it and having a go.
 
I have so little love for a coach that consistently throws his players under the bus (when he's not parking it after taking a goal lead). I REALLY hope we do them at the weekend and the miserable twat doesnt piss on our chips.
 
While he isn't the same Mourinho and hasn't been for years, can't help but feel Spurs needed freshening up last summer. Would've been a hard task for even Pochettino to keep things ticking along.
 
He should just retire. He can't do it anymore

Literally a stroll in the park over two games for Leipzig. Not good enough from Spurs at all
 
I really didn’t like him when he was here, and never wanted him associated with our club, but at the same time I’m not enjoying his decline. He was more entertaining when he was an egocentric t**t, football is more interesting place with him on top form (despite his brand of football).
 
I wonder what the young mourinho (Porto, Chelsea days) would think of this mourinho? What happened to that swagger?

We weren't good at all in Paris, but we didn't give up at least.

I don't think Jose ever thought they'd win this game.
 
if Levy was half the businessman he's made out to be, he'd stick the post-match presser to this on PPV. He'd make back half of Jose's severance fee at least.

No, research will be needed, it's simply time. Managers rarely last more than a decade at the top, in order to stay at the top you need to maintain a certain level of intensity or delegate and let someone else bring that intensity while you oversee things, you also need to adapt to new trends. I say trends because nothing is new in football, it's just about how teams are set today and how to exploit or protect yourself from it. If you can't adapt and evolve, you are done. When Mourinho was a trend setter top managers had to adapt and they did, now he has to reinvent himself but like almost everyone else he can't.
 
How long is the typical shelf life of a top level football manager anyway? Might deserve its own thread, but how does Mourinho compare with other top managers in the game's history?

Mourinho won his first league title in 2003 and his last (to date) in 2015, and has had his top management credentials questioned since then. So a peak of 12-13 years with only one or two seasons without success in that period.

Fergie became successful and more or less maintained it since Aberdeen's first title in 1980, until retirement in 2013, with two fallow/rebuilding periods (1987-1990, 2004-2006). But what about others?

Wenger was Arsenal's manager for 22 years but ultimately he wasn't at the very top of his profession for large periods, most notably ~2009-2018.

Can't be bothered looking at other managers' Wiki's so if anyone else has any examples or reference points... To be honest, if Mourinho is truly done as a top manager then he's hardly had a bad run, has he?

I don't think that he can't, he's an intelligent fellow and he wouldn't have achieved all the success he had if he wasn't.

He just won't or doesn't want to due to his world class ego where in his mind, he's always in the right and nothing negative is ever due to his own actions.

That's what will always separate him from the Fergies of the world, Fergie knew exactly when it was time to take a step back, self reflect and adapt/evolve his methods to the modern game. Mourinho has proven wholly incapable of that level of humility/self awareness and he will continue to become everything he once mocked as a result of it.

The man seems allergic to introspection

The midfield has no steel or power at all. The ability to recover the ball in that midfield area with technicians like Winks and Lo Celso operating there is almost zero. They need Sissoko back, or to put Dier back into midfield as a holding role in front of the CB's. So you have multiple threats from midfield making runs virtually unopposed at the exposed CB's.

Dier offers almost nothing going forward in that holding role, and given the goal returns recently they need more impetus in attack.

I guess for the Leipzig game they needed to run mostly attackers, sitting defending was never going to get them anything. Id expect to see Dier back in that holding role vs us. Jose to go for that coveted 0-0 draw.
