Surely he's going to get the boot now. This is arguably the best time to sack him with the new manager getting 3 easy fixtures to settle in and get a read of his squad.

The question is, however, who do they go for? Rodgers would have been an option had Leicester not been doing well and it was the end of the season. Allegri seems to be the only option with Levy, unless he wants to take a punt on someone like Howe or get someone from another league altogether,

Imagine thinking Mourinho changed his mentality based on what fans think. The lenghts some people go to defend this man, so weird.

It's not defending it - he's clearly affected by the criticism now. I don't think it's just the fans, it's likely to be pressure from within the club/board to satisfy the fans. "We'll support you if you can do this" etc.

The fact you think that's some sort of stretch to defend him probably implies the opposite.

Feels like a lifetime ago when I was jealous of Spurs having Pochettino with us having José. It's amazing that some Spurs fans didn't see this coming. Some are so blind when it comes to José that not even a sharingan would help.

His teams didn't always park 10 men behind the ball, he just did it more and more after his Madrid stint. He does still hold the record for the most goals scored in a La Liga season as well.
He did put up a fight against the best team in history ( Pep Barca) though. It all went south from that point, I think it did a damage to his mentality.

Yeah but his objective is to have a go at Eriksen. Bringing up players you've had success with in the past is not the right way to motivate new players who are going through a tough patch. Not only that the tone is far too serious.

We don't know that. It's just a 30 second clip. When I played football it's not like I fell apart if I got critism from the coach at half-time and or post-match. I'm not sure we can deduce his objective. He just gives his opinon on Lampard.

I'm surprised to see it going wrong so quickly.

A mourinho meltdown is always inevitable, but it would usually come in season three. This year is supposed to be the season two peak, where he generally wins a trophy or two and gets the media all exited about him again.

What's happened!

I don't know what is your point?? He went to Real Madrid, not Scuthorpe United. Its arguably the biggest club in the world with history and fans that would never stand for rubbish football. He had players at his disposal that would never play defensive garbage football. Mourinho didn't score the goals himself, that squad was the most stacked I have seen.

My point is he wasn't always this bad at defensive football.

The Mourinho didn't score the goals himself is a silly argument and like saying any manager is not attacking because it is the players not him. Pep is known for attacking football and his prime Barca team were better than Mourinho's Madrid so why didn't they score more than Madrid?

He will be off to Germany soon. Its so open over there that a shithouse like Jose would thrive because they can sit back and be assured of success on the break.
No way a BuLi team hires him. BVB and Bayern won't. The only other team that might interest him might be Leverkusen or Monchengladbach and I don't think they have the resources to hire him

The problem is so ironic though.

When we were briefly top, there was a widespread entitled whinge from our fans that they'd rather play football like peak-poch than win anything with "boring" football.

Mourinho, to his credit and demise, duly obliged and wanted to prove people wrong, and the squad is just not capable of it. We're now playing like Liverpool and getting results like them too, and people will moan about that too.

West Ham fans won't give the slightest whatever about the football if they get in the top four. Our lot won't give a whatever about the football if we don't. Just so stupid.

Also, there was an outcry like Dele would be able to return like a saviour and he's just as useless as he was when he was dropped.
Yeah, mourinho changed an approach which was leading them to a 'title run' because it's what folks on football forums and their couches wanted so.

I would also add he failed to win CL with that squad and ZZ won 3 in a row.
This argument doesn’t work at all. Jose at RM didn’t park the bus and as the other poster said you had peak Barca in that time as well and they didn’t score as many and I’m assuming you would consider their squad stacked as well.

His achievements have been phenomenal but football has moved on and he won’t relinquish control.

Not sure who would take him. Only Inter Milan maybe.

The generally feeling from the 'fan' side, reading opinions throughout the saga, is that someone like Potter or Parker is the type of guy that should be next - not a big name. A young manager who has a good style of play with lesser players (basically what pre-Spurs Poch was).
Parker's a little too wet behind the ears though, as Frank was, but I think Potter has a good CV. Unlikely to be available in the short term.

Allegri and Nagglesman seem to be itching for a chance, but I think Allegri said (when he was linked to Utd) that he wouldn't take over mid-season, and JN wouldn't (I doubt), so the only option would be a caretaker imo. It just depends on whether they'd give Sacramento or King a go of it, or blow the cobwebs off David Pleat, or even get Ryan Mason to cover. Who knows.

My general feeling is that nothing will happen. What's different here is that he doesn't seem to have lost the dressing room or anything, and I imagine Kane wants a trophy and will feel that Jose is his best chance or it.

Our issue is that we have a comedy show at the back, rather than the same complete lack of effort/passion that beset the last 6 months or so of Pochettino that people wistfully forget about. He went a good 10 months of this form in the league, with more worrying signs - not just 6 games.

Since when they won vs City, on 21 November 2020, they've played 15 Premier League games winning 4, drawing 4, and losing 7.

16 points from the last 15 games. That's really poor.

Spurs dont really have resources themselves though and still got him.
Nobody is going to pay his wages after this so maybe stepping down a level to step back up is the way to go.
Germany is wide open below Bayern and even Bayern have fallen a level, all Jose has to do is take a side withiin touching distance of top 2

Wonder what his latest excuse will be It's all Levy's fault for not giving him 1 Billion to sign Ozil, Willian, Nainngolan, Peresic and Jerome Boateng!

Interestingly, though - was was City's form like around then?

There was a nonsense article in the Athletic today/yesterday about "Pep shows spurs were too soon to sack Poch" as if almost a year of relegation form in a league was remotely comparable, but I feel like the same could genuinely be used as a stick to beat us with if we sacked Jose.

I want a change, but I also don't want us to be a joke, or a pub quiz question about the only team Jose didn't want a trophy with etc.

We are in a cup final, but there's no chance this Jose with this team beats City. I have more optimism about any other manager out there tbh. Even Allardyce would find a way for one game. (not linking 'who I would want', but simply the feeling of having no confidence in Jose to win one match with any team, which others are very good at).

One could argue that why the hell would Rodgers swap Leicester for Tottenham at this stage? Tottenham with their debt problems and lack of winning culture is not a place you want to be. They kind of expect success deep down, without a single factor for success being present. A manager would want to invest in players, that’s not happening at Spurs - also you’d have to deal with an absolute toxic chairman with his nose into everything.

I quite like Potter, and feel given the resources he can become a good manager.

As far as Poch's signing is concerned, you did the right thing in sacking him, as your underlying numbers had been shit, and it wasn't the case of you having bad luck. However, like then, your underlying stats right now are pretty poor as well. Since your win vs City, your xG is better than just 5-6 teams and your xGA is 12th best in the league. Even if your players haven't lost faith in him, your tactics are an issue.

And to your Nagelsmann point, JN is not leaving Leipzig for Spurs, with all due respect. There are going to be managerial changes at Barca, RM, maybe Juve and a fair few other top clubs, teams with deeper pockets and higher ambitions.

Re: Naglesmann that's what I mean by "he wouldn't". I don't think it's generally a good idea for someone that young to be in this league anyway, as AVB seemed to show just how eager the media can be to undermine a manager that is young that some players. If he wants an easy ride he'll hang on for a big job that practically does itself, like your PSG/Barca/Real/Juve type things.

I think Jose has taken on the same issues at spurs as he did at United. Can't play too attacking, because the defence is too bad. Can't play too defensive, because the results will suffer.

It's a weird season, and if Jose goes he'll always have COVID as an excuse.
