Don't be silly. Every team needs luck to win a UCL. We actually had won the EL the year before so it even makes it more difficult. You were extremely lucky to knock us out in 2008 so, by the same metric, you should never have won the CL too.
Did you have a perfectly good goal disallowed in 2008? We did in ‘04.. By rights we should have gone through, even with Tim Howard’s buttery gloves.

Well, we have better players now because Ole developed, coached and managed them well but Mourinho himself was the one who said he had better players at spurs with Kane than us in the all or nothing documentary.

Mourinho also seemed to spend 75% of his Man. United tenure desperate to sign Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld although I guess actual reality of working with them day in day out has softened his opinion on both.

You signed Matic instead.

Also called Lloris the best keeper in premier league earlier this season although probably just for confidence given errors are creeping into his game again.

Paul Scholes' legitimate goal was wrongly called for offside.

The Special One wouldn't have existed. I often wonder how things are going in that alternate reality parallel universe.

Sacking Poch was the wrong decision as he was punching above the weight year in year out. Appointing Jose was even worse decision than sacking Poch.

Even if Jose can turn back the clock and do a Porto at Spurs the fans will be very boring with his negative tactics. To me Jose has past it and it will end very badly at Spurs.

The way Spurs play just reminds me of how we used to play under him. Clueless in attack, depending on individual brilliance and counters. Half hearted pressing by some players. Jose just sucks the joy out of watching football.

He should focus on his TV career at this point. The game won't miss him and his 'football'.

Christ, I forgot this tie even took place but it seems etched in your memory bank.
It's the greatest season in the history of their club, it's not a surprise that a fan can recall every little detail. I'm sure we have clearer memories of the 1999 CL quarter-final than Inter fans, for example.

Agree with this. I think he can be charismatic and a good listen to when hes not bitter and really involved.
He did some good stuff on Sky before his hiring by Spurs. If he focuses on that, he would be a good addition as a pundit.

Yep, still bitter about it now.

I vaguely remember the Inter tie in 1999. I recall a couple of great Beckham crosses, the anticipated needle with Simeone before the OT leg and Scholesy scoring a goal and doing some sort of ‘shagging’ celebration. I certainly wouldn’t be posting on an Inter forum citing possession stats or shots on target!

He was a good pundit but I don’t think he views himself as a full-time pundit though. When he was at Sky he kept saying that he belonged on the touch line (if we agree or disagree with him on that, it’s another debate)

Mourinho is done at the top level but he was once a Great manager and I have no doubt he would have had great Career even if Porto had gone out against Us in Champions League that year Similar to Guardiola who would have gone on to have great Managerial Career even if his Barcelona team had gone out against Chelsea.

Would he have done as well as he has at Chelsea if his funds were limited? I very much doubt it. He's nothing more than a cheque book manager.

He doesn't cos he thinks he's a top manager still. But yeah I get what you're saying. He needs to realise it himself but maybe if he becomes Portugal manager (though seeing him play Bruno bernado and Ronaldo as wing backs would be quite something)

Jose usually has a good trophy winning second season before the third season meltdown. Only Spurs would skip the trophy winning part and go straight to the meltdown.

Jose might have lost the dressing room, or maybe not.. but he has definately lost the fans. They hate him and the style of play he has forced on them.

Hiring him is turning out to be a big f*** up by Spurs. Instead of bringing in someone to build on the positive platform that Poch had built, they brought in someone with a completely different style who is destroying it and taking them back to a rebuild.

Right after he left us, Jose was on Bein Sports talking about how he was going to do his due diligence before choosing his next club, basically blaming all his failures on us. Whose fault is it this time? Did he not do his due diligence?

He definitely did, he managed to find a club that would pay him 15M a year to destroy them from the inside.

@GifLord is there any chance you can make one of that Tooty defender faceplanting himself yesterday after getting turned inside out? I was pissing meself laughing at the replays.

I'm convinced we'll get more than one or two points. If I thought we wouldn't win of our two home matches against Everton and Southampton i'd think we were a bad team. Does that answer your damn question, or are you still confused?

@Dec9003, appears we have entered the poor run I was worried about.

So we won one of those matches we mentioned and then went and dropped points to fecking WBA.

I still don’t think that makes us a bad team though, but are you sticking by that? Or gonna do some gymnastics?

Fair enough.. checked .. I mustve been thinking of the year before when they spent nothing. I just remember thinking Poch was doing a good job but not getting backed.. that is probably where that came from.

It's just the false rhetoric that gets painted about an awful lot by people who thought he could do no wrong. He was backed plenty but had decided that he only wanted top, top quality signings - that or nothing. He had turned down Grealish, Maddison, Tielemens and many more besides in order to sign no one because he "trust(ed) the player(s)" he had. We were building a stadium even before he joined so his contempt of our financial limits was baffling.

People also ignore that it was our most successful half-season in the premier league ever after that summer, up until Jose left and he clearly wanted the United job. His head was turned and he had the convenient excuse of his 'no transfers' to hide behind.

I will always be a spurs fan well before I am a fan of a particular player or manager, so it really hacks me off that a certain section of our support choses to glorify Poch over the club when he spent his last year constructing his exit. Yes, he was one of the best we had, and yes we got to a CL final, but he was responsible for his own downfall.

We’re definitely bad at the minute mate, that was atrocious yesterday.

Needs to reverse results sharpish, if Jose reaches the end of the season with no trophy and Spurs languishing in 10th, he is gone Id imagine. He is lucky fans are not at the grounds, He would be getting boo'd every second game the way Spurs are playing with the sit deep and defend at home nonsense. Would maybe force the board/Levy's hand if the crowd got too restless with the tumescent football and losses. Can get away with it if you are getting results, Jose is not getting results.

The Spurs defence is just woeful, Sanchez has been at Spurs forever and for me has not improved at all, he is pacey but that is all he has. Alderweireld is aging, great CB in his prime, Dier is okish I guess. Then you have Tanganga, an academy kid, and Rodon, inexperienced at PL level. Davies cannot play the wing back role, he is a traditional fullback or can play on the left of a back three. Whatever happened to Sessegnon btw? Aurier tbf I think has improved, he was a walking red card initially. Doherty Im not even sure why Spurs bought him, and why they didnt bring in Aarons from Norwich who were relegated.

I guess every team has hits and misses, Reguilon is phenomenal and Hojbjerg is twice the player Winks is in that DM role.

Levy gambled that Mourinho could squeeze a trophy out of the squad Pochettino left behind, rather than embark on a rebuild under a different manager. With the funds they’ve tied up in their stadium project, it made some sense to take that approach. Levy probably also liked the idea that he could do what others haven’t and persuade Mourinho to adapt to a club’s modus operandi. Safe to say the gamble hasn’t paid off and they’ve still got to rebuild their squad.

Spurs have had 3 crazy months in a row, they started this phase well but couldn't keep up.

Now they only miss 2 "top 6" games (away to Arsenal and home to Man Utd, although they still have away games to Everton and Leicester) so it's likely Spurs will start to rise in the table. I think top 4 is a realistic possible position for them.
If they end in top 4 with or without the League Cup I think Levy will be perfectly fine with Mourinho.

I don't get these sort of posts. Have you not been watching them at all?

They dropping points to all sorts of teams. It's not just 'hard' matches..............they are completely shot at the back too.

I know and yes I have, still I don't expect for them to keep being like that until the end of the season (sometimes they've been really unlucky).

I reckon Eddie Howe will either join Spurs or Palace at the end of the season. Or before that if Jose gets sacked.

That's a bad day right there.

The sheer blunt force with which his face collides with the surface makes for frankly shocking viewing. At least he had the foresight to turn his head to the side before impact, saving his nose in the process. Smart lad.

After watching them I can't see how anyone could think 4th should he realistic for them with some of the teams ahead. Arsenal coming close to them too. Chelsea squad and manager looks light years away from Jose and spurs at the moment too. Can't see how they turn it around looks like he lost the players to an extent no even parking the bus decent any more.

Funny looking back at Liverpool spurs game was billed as some sort of huge title game, both have snowballed in league since it

Mourinho has been declining since he left Madrid. Its a ridiculous to say he was never a great manager though. Treble with Inter, what more do you want?

All the joy seems to have been sucked out of him since leaving Madrid. After how awful he was in 15/16 at Chelsea and the Eva shambles was surprised he got Utd job and even more surprised Spurs after.

He's joyless, bitter and deluded. If he ever takes a break from football and gets his joy back, maybe we'll one day see the old Mourinho back.

This.

He's at the stage of his career where he could be a good NT coach. Short term jobs, less hours and no transfer dealings.
