The attacking is still looks unstructured and more about what the players do than any team drilling.

The defence is wickedly open to attacks against any team.

He is still talking about himself.

Defense is wickedly open. Hahahaha. feck, how do you people get promoted for writing some utter garbage.

Jose's 2nd, but Pep's 4th.

That's the kicker.

Weird how fans don't really elude to that spell, where Jose displaced arguably the greatest side in history 2 seasons in.

He's lagging a bit this season but history shows there is no reason to doubt anyone else can do a better job of displacing Pep in his peak.

While not agreeing by his whole post, our defense does concede a fair few chances, therefor the amount of shots DDG faces and the amount of saves compared to other GK at top clubs.

United's current points-per-game ratio of 2.18 would have won the Premier League title in nine of the previous 26 seasons, trumping Ferguson's champions of 1992/93, 1995/96, 1996/97, 1998/99, 2000/01 and 2010/11, in addition to 1994/95 winner Blackburn, Arsenal in 1997/98 and Leicester in 2015/16.

But, but Fergie would of....

When a team that often plays as poorly as ours is able to be second, that says something about the current league.

Yeah the league must be shite. Whatever fits your narrative I guess.

Chelsea ran away with the league last season, now they can't even get top 4. Teams rarely stay at the top for long, don't be ridiculous.

A Manchester United supporter claiming it's ridiculous to say a team can stay at the top for more than one season? Good call.

Thanks for this island of sense in an ocean of misery.
Jose is our best option to beat City to the league and deserves next season at least to have a crack at it.

Most of those are 90s and early 00s PL wins. The bar is higher now. I think financially the disparity between top and bottom must be a lot greater now.

Chelsea lost Matic and Costa in the summer window so were two steps back before they'd even brought anyone in. To think that City, with the resources they have, won't maintain or improve is a nice fantasy so we don't have to face up to what a task we have. It's not the truth.

Its not wickedly open like the post claimed. And goalkeeper is a part of the defense and he is only getting better. Why don't people get that?

It is not ''wickedly open'' like he claimed, but our defense as a team can certainly improve. We can control games much better, we can press without the ball better, the CBs can dominate set pieces much better, even DDG can command his area better. Yes we have one of the best defenses in the league, but watching us sometimes it's worrying how we concede some chances.

Hardly a comparison. City had a good manager, loads of money and are ready to splash the cash in the market for anyone Pep names. So the probability of them getting better is more than them falling off a cliff.

How do you know they are not happy with Mou? Do you have inside contacts with the club? Don’t believe everything you here in the media. The media use United to get attention. After all we are the most followed club in the PL by far.

As I said, if reports are to be true. I didn't at one point say they were unhappy...

What worries me is if Manchester United FC has become one of those clubs where player power rules. We didn't become what we are by allowing players to dictate if a manager stays or leave. If Pogba and Martial are unhappy or can't fall in line, I will rather they leave and be replaced by players who are as good and also desperate to play for the badge. And this is coming from a fan who likes Pogba and Martial. I am tired of all the rumours around them. The reality is that they get their chances and are always inconsistent in taking those chances. That is on them and not the manager.

Totally, I agree, no player should have more power than the club.
But Pogba and Martial are attacking players. They want to play football. You can just see in how we play, it's not exciting attacking football.
Maybe it's not player power, maybe they are just not happy with the type of football they are asked to deliver.

Incorrect. Just pointing out that your club has always been the one club (other than arsenal) that doesn’t tolerate player power and lets the manager get on with it.

Seems you want to be like Chelsea. Which is fine if that’s what you want. Would be a shame though.
Im pretty sure United fans (and all our rivals) would have been doing cartwheels and cracking open the champers had we let Scolari, AVB and Jose mark 2 "get on with it".

I won't embarrass myself by revealing where exactly but let's just say before the season began and at various points during it there were times I envisaged us finishing significantly lower season than we are currently placed. I simply didn't think we had signed enough quality players or possessed a high calibre enough squad to allow us to properly compete for the title. In a sense that is still true given the gulf in points that exists between ourselves and City but overall we've done a good deal better than I feared we would.

However, it is not just for this reason that I'll say that I am as good as unwavering in my belief that Jose should be given another season to prove he is the right man for the job. Clearly there has been positive progress in terms of the league position although certainly not enough in terms of quality of performances. I'm not by any means one hundred percent convinced this will change in the next campaign but I honestly can't see how anything can be gained by making yet another managerial change and subsequent overhaul of the squad at this time.

Print the banners (they're only two words), fly the planes. Let your club know where you stand.

That's some good perspective on timelines. Hopefully we have some history repeating here next season in that sense.

You have a point there.

Stats actually show our defense concedes fewer chances than the last few seasons under Fergie. Injuries and changing combinations play a part.

Finishing in a possible second place regardless of points tally and winning Europa League equates to the same reward (one just come with something silver).

But with the discussion we were having being the comparison of this season to last season, 6th or wherever we finished, plus 5th the season before, to jump to 2nd in the big picture is a big step forward. You can't deny that.

our form against the other top clubs has improved since October of last year, but those are hollow victories in the overall view of the the season, you don't get double points for beating The Bitters they are still going to win the league and we still might not win a single piece of silverware.

Again, in the discussion we were having, we were comparing whether or not this season has been a better season than last season, and beating all of our rivals and finishing 2nd compared to losing to all our rivals and finishing 6th, is a big improvement.

I could ask the same of you, And you must be blind. Any team we play against seems to be able to get into our area with ease. Just yesterday Bournemouth midfielders were running through a few times. We dont press and we certainly dont keep a great shape (see Athletic Madrid).

I certainly dont watch us and think we are a tight defensive team. And thats part of the problem, we dont defend or attack well as a team. We have no team identity.

Can you post this season amount of chances conceded among the league? I remember reading we were closer to the midtable clubs rather than the top ones. And I don’t really want to compare it to the last few seasons under Fergie where we had a one man midfield. I agree about injuries, defense is a lot about consistency and stability, there is not much of it when the CBs change every other week.

Why are we so poor in building the game from back. Players are so keen to hoof the ball, i dont know its just their lack of ability or direction from manager or players just do not want to take risk and first thing in their mind is clearance/hoof the ball so that it can not be intercepted in risky areas.

THis hoof ball tactics sometimes work, but sometimes dont work like we see against Sevilla. Its games like this Bournemoth one where we need to be trying to play from the back. This Smalling/valencia to De Gea hoof ball to Fellaini/Lukaku has to stop. Jose has to address that.

It's a good way to force pressing team's to back off/exploit the high line, the Liverpool game at OT being a great example. You play long and force the pressing team to drop back to guard against the long direct balls. This in theory gives you more time on the ball.

That in theory helps to bypass the midfield. I dont understand what you mean by that will give us more time on the ball?

While everything is good if hoofing is our plan and we are trying to take advantage of the space they left behind. The issue for me is - there are times when we have to build the game from back, and we needed to do that, we look to be so poor on that. There were some games when we seemed to be nowhere near the hoofed ball and the waves of opponent attack keeps coming right back. So in such cases, we will be better if we pass around the back and control the ball.

I am okay with us hoofing the ball against the likes of Liverpool or Man city but what is not good is playing hoofing ball when we are trailing 0-1 at home against Newcastle or Sevilla.

I never claimed we have a water tight defense. But why do people consider goalie as someone not part of the team?

You seem to be ignoring the fact the a season is not wholly comprised of the league. this season we will finish in the top four with big chance of even finishing second the reward for which the reward is a place in the Champions League. Last season we won the Europa League and earned a place in the Champions League while also adding a trophy to the cabinet. that is the cold hard facts of the two seasons. the other side of the discussion is the more intangible point is that I think we played more aesthetically pleasing football last season while just lacking a killer finish. so if the rewards for the the two seasons are the same, while the enthusiasm that surrounded the club last season seems to have died down a bit, how can you call it an improvement when you look at the overall picture layout of the two seasons ?.

P.S

I probable wont be able to respond to your reply until Sunday night ,as I will be offline for most the weekend.

I love SAF, he's the greatest manager of all time for me, but I don't agree with this. Much better is a stretch. Over his career, SAF has struggled both domestically and in Europe at times against a certain few managers, Jose is one of them, Pep another. SAF is in the company of the greatest managers of all time, but Jose and Pep given they've won just as much and dominated just as much, surely also deserve to be there?

Would we have been a better team with SAF currently though? Of course, we'd also be playing more exciting football, but to suggest one is 'much better' than the other, when history illustrates anything but is wrong imo.

That's not to take anything away from SAF, I've said multiple times on here he's the best manager of all time for the way he was constantly able to adapt and reinvent himself over the years and the continued success he brought.

The only thing absurd here is your snarkiness towards one of the best managers in modern football. No one is belittling Ferguson - he's a God to us ffs.

Nobody should belittle SAF's achievements and they get better by the year to be honest. Yes Jose is also one of football's best ever managers, but in modern football, not sure he isn't getting left behind by a new breed of manager. We will need to see what happens this weekend, either a nice cup final or our season is done. Then in the summer who is bought and sold. Either he learns his lesson and makes us more attractive or he is on a serious collision course with the fans. A lot would sell Pogba, but I do not want our team to have no personality or flair. It is a wait and see moment.

2nd place isn't half bad if the likes of Klopp and "Poch" are leaving him behind!

Yes, the SF will be very interesting - it's a different season if they have that cup final to look forward to.

I know we are 2nd and that is great, but why can't we get 2nd with some style. I am not sure now much more boring football I can take. At times you feel like ignoring the live game and just watching highlights later so you don't see the rubbish stuff.

I'm not sure what I can respond - we are so different here. For me winning = entertainment. If United win that's fantastic! If they draw or lose then, for me, it's shit regardless of how the match was.

If Chelsea and Arsenal make their next managerial appointments wisely, competition for CL spots could get even stiffer next season. I expect City to at least remain consistent, and Liverpool to improve further with upgrades to their midfield.

Jose has a hell of a job on his hands, tbf. He has to get the summer right for starters, especially if he intends to sell our two biggest talents.

Feel the same. Expect the dissatisfaction to increase next season if Chelsea and Arsenal start playing good football as well. Would be quite something if we started wishing we had Arsenal's manager :)

I want both. I know not all games are like that, but we cannot sustain good football for a whole game even. We have half a good game, then dross. The some games we don't even get that good half.
