Jorge Mendes and Wolverhampton Wanderers

Top 8 "easily"? That's a pretty big ask considering 6 of those 8 are Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea.

If you get top 8 (big if, IMO) then it certainly won't be easily. That puts you in and around the likes of Everton, West Ham, Leicester. Plus then there's the likes of Watford, Newcastle etc.

Anything above 15 would be an excellent season.
No I stand by what I said top 8 is achievable

Never said it wasn't achievable, just that you wouldn't do it "easily".

Why is it you have such high expectations btw?

I watched them a few times last year and they were of equal quality to a Newcastle or Leicester for example. They were head and shoulders above everyone else in the Championship. Adding the new players bought in and I think top 8 is quite achievable, certainly top half of the table. Think Portugal Wanderers will do quite well.

It’s our first season up, anything about 17th is all that matters. Think we’ll be between 8-12th.

Troare signed. Dendoncker on his way, great day today. Supposedly one more ‘big’ signing by tomorrow too. Wonder if Dendoncker is a Mendes signing?

The team is looking very very good on paper. Get a solid mid table finish (even Europe?) and expect next summer for Wolves to go big(ger)

I'd have taken Dendoncker at United in a heartbeat for the money being quoted.

I was really impressed with him in the Europa league against us a couple of years back.

They'll be competing for 7th.

Meh. West Ham was supposed to "threaten" the top 6 after the 15/16 season but look how that turned out.

This isnt even close to that, Wolves have potentially a great team on their hands. Anything less than 10th would be bad for them now .

It’s still a big step up though. Can all the players make the step up? Pochettino did great for Soton combined in their first season, did they finish top half? But all there are other teams looking very strong outside top6. Westham and Everton among the candidates surely Burnley with their style, even though they are still underdogs, will put up a fight and one random team will be there too but all what matters is really the cup spots..

Agree but then again they have some really strong players in their squad now . They will be fine.

Even if they have a decent starting line up, it will take time for them to jell. Still, a promoted side aiming for a top 10 finish is almost unheard of. Their fans must be delirious.

Will surely be top 10.

Only surprise for me is no big name striker in...guess that's where the Portugal connection falls down.

Guess Raul Jimenez is their main man but he only had a 1 in 4 strike rate at Benfica. Helder Costa and Cavalero are inconsistant and Bonatini hardly scored a goal after xmas in the championship after starting well.

Midfield and out wide is looking very good though.

They have owners a lot richer than everton west ham etc. They can bring in more big signings after this season. They are the Chelsea or City from when they both got sugar daddies in

Very good business thus far. I'm looking forward to watching them play once they gel.

Hope they do extremely well once they surrender 6 points to us without a fight.

Will they even start Jota after all these signings?

Jota will start he was our best attacker last season. We also won’t sell our best players just cause of Mendes. No idea where this idea comes that he runs the club, yes he’s got connections to the club and helps us sign players but Fosun have already stated he’s just a friend of Shi and won’t run our transfers. He’s doing the same with Wolves which he’s now doing with Forest, money in the English game is insane and any links he gets helps him. Our owners have huge ambitions and won’t sell players unless we can get adequate or better replacements.

Patricio
Dendoncker Coady Boly
Doherty Neves Moutinho Johnny
Costa Jimenez Jota.

Will be our starting team.

Dendocker is not really a defender, you look pretty poor at the back actually and should've nicked Rojo off us. Record signing Traore won't be benched. I'd guess you will line up like this.

Traore Jimenez Costa
Jota Moutinho Dendocker Neves
Castro Boly Bennett
Patricio

Neves & Jota as wing backs  no chance

Traore's definitely an impact player, don't think price matters much, Jota won't be moved out of his best position for him. Jonny & Doherty will be the wing backs. They do look weak at CB still though yeah, surprised they didn't sign one after they were linked with Rojo but tbf they were solid last season with Boly, Bennett & Coady.

Neves in the PL, finally we'll get to see if it all was hype in a weaker league or if he is as good as some expect him to be

Dendoncker plays in defence and midfield so can play either positions as he is quite versatile.

vs Everton I think they will line up as:

Jota Jimenez Costa
Jonny Moutinho Neves Doherty
Boly Coady Dendoncker
Patricio

He’s played CB for Belgium and Anderlecht. He’ll not play anywhere but CB for us. Jota + Neves as wing backs? Have you watched us play?

Guess Raul Jimenez is their main man but he only had a 1 in 4 strike rate at Benfica. Helder Costa and Cavalero are inconsistant and Bonatini hardly scored a goal after xmas in the championship after starting well.

Midfield and out wide is looking very good though.

Good strikers are the most expensive players in the market and would take a big chunk of the transfer budget, so it's hard to get a quality striker without sacrificing other transfers.

IMHO Bonatini is a very good player, but yes, he plays better as support striker.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Jota deployed up top. He was their top scorer last season and is more than capable of making it in the premier league. That's what I'm banking on for my fantasy team anyway!

Jimenez will start up top.

Jota will play there if for any reason Raul isn't available, or we go with a fluid front three, which we did at times last season. Can't wait to see Diogo unleashed, he's absolute class.

Same here - not sure if I've looked forward to watching a newly promoted team as much as you guys before.

He has played there, quite often, but he doesn't like it. He's always said his future is in midfield. I hope he'll have a better season for you guys than he has played in the last year and a half.

They may well get top half, but I don't think that's absolutely nailed on.

All of Everton, West Ham, Leicester, Burnley and Palace have a decent shot of finishing ahead of them imo. Falling in the middle of that pack and behind the top 6 would have them 9th or 10th - that might be average. Finishing below all of them would mean 12th and I could see that happening too.

It would be no miracle at all if the first 3 teams listed finished above them. Then there's Burnley who I keep writing off and they keep defying me. Palace's form last season after Hodgson took would have been enough for around 54 across a full season. Vitally Palace kept Zaha. Supoose he could sulk but if he doesn't then it would be no major surprise should he help them finish above Wolves.

I think Burnley are in for a tough season. They haven't added a lot of numbers or quality to their squad, and they have to play in the Europa League too.

Think they will avoid relegation but that's it. All those players couldn't cut it on an average Benfica. They are very limited attacking players. Bonatini was in Estoril for christ sake. Plus their manager was one of the worst we had in the last 10 years and trust me, we have had some dire shit.

I think they could be too. I was actually looking at their relegation odds recenlty as I consider them candidates for the drop. Was hoping I might get really good odds as they finished so high up last season but the odds weren't that enticing in the end.

Thing is with Burnley is that I've tipped them to go down the last 2 seasons so I don't trust my judgement with them at all. :wenger: Then to a certain extent there's a feeling that any of 12, maybe even 14 teams could in theory go down at any point. There's a lot of teams of similar ability and many of them are one bad season away from relegation. The opposite side of that is that they're a good season away from breaking the top 10 as well. You get Burnley and Newcastle surprising a lot of people last season and you also get Southampton almost being relegated after finishing no worse than 8th for 4 seasons in a row.

Started the season very well. Think we’ll do what I said at the start 8-12th. Would love to push for 7th
