Jonny Evans - Off in January

This is exactly whats wrong with our club last couple of years.Tolerating average players and expecting them to come out good and giving em huge salaries they dont deserve.
We need to be more more ruthless towards players.None of the big clubs in Europe would take Evans in their squad let alone in the starting 11 ! If your not good enough then bye bye,arrivederci,ciao,end ! Even if said player is homegrown or local doesnt matter.
Its that simple if we want to compete with Barca,Real M,PSG,Bayern M. win the league and CL then we need to be fighting for the signature of the best players out there !
Should stop relying on championship level players and hoping they would come good some day, but in the end that day never comes.So we end up with alot of deadwood in the squad,then ppl wonder why we need so many new signings for every position.
 
Christ, we are so bad at moving on and improving that we're talking about bringing Evans back. As much as I liked him, he's not the answer and this isn't the direction we should be moving in.
 
I hope he's off to Arsenal or City.

Average defender and always a mistake waiting to happen. That's coming from a fellow countryman.
 
He's a good defender, but I have always thought he's very overrated by us - United fans - just like Chicharito. Both are good players but not to the same grade some United fans think they're.
 
I like Evans, yes he shouldn't have been sold but we now must keep faith that Lindelof will improve.

Hernandez is crap, Evans clearly isn’t. Weird comparison. You don’t see Evans having totally biased fanboys like you do Herndandez. Evans could still do a job for a top team, that’s the major difference between the two.

No. Both are squad options at best, nothing more nothing less.

We should stay away from anyone who is described as being able to "do a job" It's another way of saying average. We have plenty of average defenders. When we're next in the market for a CB it should be a top tier one.
 
Surely we’re not in for Evans ? Don’t get me wrong he’s a good defender but isn’t any better than what we’ve already got and not as good as some we already have so why would we re-sign him ?

If we were to sell in order to buy a centre back I don’t actually know who’d be sold as Jones when fit is our best centre back along with Bailly so wouldn’t be either of those whilst Smalling is probably our first choice back up option and most reliable fitness wise. Rojo can be a beast whilst Lindelof is a new signing and Tuanzebe is clearly the future so unless we sign Umtiti I don’t think we need a centre back at all least of all Evans.

always thought he looked solid when hes playing a deeper line, on loan at sunderland, N ireland and west brom hes always looked a quiality defender, problem lies for me is when he 30 yards further up the park trying to defend, thats why shocked City and Arsenal are in for him. but might prove me wrong if gets the chance, Everton would be a better move imo

I agree that 'do a job' shouldn't be any kind of benchmark for our transfers. We should be looking to add first team quality almost every time while making up squad numbers with deserving promotions from the academy.

Given we're arguably overstocked at CB I don't see adding another body who in all likelihood wouldn't elevate our levels as a goer for us. I suspect most people who want to see us in the mix for Evans are keener on keeping him out of Pep/Wenger's hands given his connection to United than actually welcoming him back.
 
I'd rate Evans on the same level as Smalling. Solid enough as a squad player but we should be targeting defenders a level above to partner Bailly..
