Jonny Evans | 2011/12 Performances

I always felt he was a bit under appreciated. Fergie tore a strip off him in public a few years back and it damaged his confidence. Took a while to recover.

Love to see him breaking from the back at times to join the attack, like Rio used to do when he knew his body would hold for him to return to the backline afterwards. He's really coming along nicely now after last season's blip. Totally earned his place in the team and yeah, Fergie choosing to rest him rather than Rio speaks volumes. Delighted to see him play like this. Class performer coming from the youth sides, what can be better?

Magnificent today. And he is still what, just 23?

So much more to come form him. And he has Rio and Vidic still around to learn from. Will be one of the best centre backs in the world aged 27, injuries permitting.

Just put him into my fantasy team yesterday. You're welcome folks.

That 45 yard inch perfect pass which led to our 4th or 5th goals was Scholes/Beckham at their best!!!!

Where the hell did he learn to do that?!

Evans has been brilliant this season. One of our best players to date, i'm really happy he got a good run of games to show exactly what he is capable of.

i think lack of pace/turning circle as wide as a oil tanker will stop him from being as good as ferdinand. however i can see him anchoring our backline for a good 5-6 years, partnered next to someone who is a bit quicker.

Worst performance I've seen from a United player in years, he seem to not even care, feck sake.

Wes Brown should ask Fergie why the hell he's not playing when Evans is.

Can't defend to save his life. I'd prefer not to see him in the squad again for the rest of the season. Since the second half of last season, he hasn't been up to playing. I'm not sure how we can put him on since we give up goals whenever he's on.

I dont care what anyone says, i'm still 100% convinced he'll be a Manchester United reguarl defender in the future. Ferdinand was the same at that age and he turned out ok.

Give him away

he looks weak and his body does not look as thou its developed over the last 12 months, physically needs to srengthen up,Will not make the grade with us after looking a certainty 18 months ago.

I can't see Evans getting any better

Evans is fecking rubbish.

I've never rated him, the only times he has looked reasonable is when he was surrounded by our best players over a year ago when we peaked. The hype over him was ridiculous and unfounded.

Also his passing game is comical, as are his feeble one legs stamps to swipe the ball.

I wouldn't mind if he was sold. I really wouldn't.

Get rid of this little boy.

What a turn around, from the first few pages of this very thread. Football bloody hell

Fair play to those that recognized that the lad was going through patches of poor form, nothing more than that. Great to see him finally getting some recognition

I have been harsh on him at times but thats simply because he didnt play as good as we all know he can. He is 24 now seems like he is finally turning into a player that can be relied on a weekly basis.

Classic post there golden. Sums up a few I'm afraid. It's a bit of a nightmare how it's only today after his goal are some media outlets picking up how good he is.

Aye I admit it too. I think I said last season something like I wouldn't care if he left tomorrow but he's been thrust into the firing line this season due to injuries and whatnot and he's been solid. I was chuffed for him when he scored today.

I've had him in my fantasy team for most of the season too and he's not let me down yet.

couldn't believe that was his first goal. maybe i'm just imagining it but i thought he had a header for a goal off a corner once. guess not. something's changed in him. he's a different player now than he was even at the beginning of this season.

I admit I am hyper critical of Johnny Evans but I have always tried to preface that when he gets a run of games and a shot of confidence from it he's definitely a fantastic CB.

Some little nigglies to his game. But as he gains experience and confidence his peak game is more than sufficient in combination in our defense.

Have a look at this off FB, why are people so horrifically misinformed?

Evans is a liability, his postional play is terrible, he had one good game against a very very poor Wolves team and he's now United quality? Evans would not last in a championship team, he hasn't got the physique, the positional play, the ability to act calm under pressure. Hence why when Utd have their CB's back he will be out the team straight away. He may just make a half decent cb with experience, but he will never make it at Utd to the extent he's considered a regular 1st teamer.

Anyway, this was my response and this was me holding back only because I don't actually know the person.

He had one good game? lol. When we have our CB'S back? plural?
We only have Vidic out, Evans is keeping Smalling and Jones out the team but don't let facts get in the way of you talking absolute shit. The ability to act calm? lol, have you actually seen him play at all this season? You should really spend time WATCHING football rather than copying and pasting.

His first proper goal was long overdue. Well done to him.

Otherwise he's playing like the full package at the moment. His decision making at the back is spot on and he knows when to pick his moments to drive forward. His long range passing in particular has become such an asset to us.

Shit source but Goal.com are reporting that he'll sign a new 5 year deal worth £65k a week. Wouldn't surprise me, he has been sensational recently.

Yep, I wouldn't be surprised either. Fergie will certainly want to tie him up for the foreseeable future anyway.

He's idiotic, aye. But you coulda come up with something better!

He had one wrongly chalked off because of a non-existant foul a couple of seasons back.

He also scored in that friendly against Ireland XI in 2010 as well as one against Celtic in 2006.

Deserves it. My player of the season, just ahead of Valencia and Carrick. When Vidic got injured I feared for our season, but he's done brilliantly this season and has been very consistent. Look at City without Kompany, and us without Vida. Evans has filled the gap marvellously and I hope he can continue his run in the 1st team.

The was an instant against Bilbao which I did find quite concerning regardless of how well Evans has done this season and that was how easily on of their attackers got past him, Evans was so slow on the turn and didn't look like he had an ounce of pace to get back either. IIRC it's not the only time I can remember this happening in the last month or so either (I can't remember who tthe other game was against though)

That aside he's come on leaps and bounds this year, not entirely sure he's been as good as he was back in 08/09 but certainly a lot better than the past 2 seasons (west ham away being his lowest point)

I dont really know which incident you are talking about here and I am not questioning your view.

I just feel that we need to accept the fact that there will be occasions when Evans will be made to look like sh*t but then that happens to all defenders. They play week in week out against some of the best attackers in the world and there are bound to be occasions when they get caught.

yes, i think some fans have a really high expectation where they expect defenders never to be beaten by a forward. Even the best defenders in world football cannot live up to that expectation!

My top 5 players of the season
1.Evans
2.Carrick
3.Valencia
4.Rooney
5.Scholes

Could quibble about the order but that would be my top 5 too. Maybe swap Scholes for Welbeck.

Rooney aside, I think it's fair to say that not one of those players (including Welbeck) would have featured heavily in the redcafe predictions for players of the season if we took a straw poll last summer.

Football, eh? Bloody hell...

Ditch Rooney and Scholes for Jones and Nani for me. They might have gone off the boil recently but if you look at the season as a whole both have been outstanding.

As for Evans, always knew he had it in him and delighted that he has really made a step up with his performances this season.

Seriously?

They've both been outstanding in patches but it's when you take the season as a whole that it becomes obvious shouldn't be on that list. Especially Jones.

I agree...

Maybe Nani can make the list as he was doing very well till his injury.

eh?

Scholes has possibly been the best central midfielder in the league, bar none, since his return

Rooneys goalscoring has been consistent this season

Nani has been good in patches, but also injured a fair bit

Jones has had a few good matches, but POY contender?

Ok point taken on Jones, although I stand by Nani. Scholes has been good, but he hasn't featured enough to make the list for me.

Anyway this is a discussion for another thread.

I am sorry Evans.

I called you shit. I take it back.

I said he wasn't good on the ball and concerned about his physique and lack of physical defending.

I said these after the City game mind you. I guess I'm just as bad as everyone else's knee jerking off around here.
