Jonathan David

We don't seem remotely interested
Has to be a budgeting issue at this point? Either we splurge for a marquee signing or we try to scrooge around. Instead of signing a few players for 20-50M that are the right age and talented, i.e. Anderson & Nani.

Kind of surprised there's not more fuss about him this summer.

Likewise - it seems like teams are waiting for him to take that next jump but I think he's displayed enough that you grab him now before he becomes the hottest commodity on the market.

Versatile forward, appears to be a decent finisher, fairly creative, can beat a player and strong pressing numbers.

Maybe if he continues his strong start to the season that'll change over the next couple of weeks, but then again Lille will want an increasingly higher fee as the transfer deadline looms.

Possibly not a big enough name for them to replace him with but I thought Liverpool might have made a run for him after it was clear Mane was leaving (and before they signed Nunez obviously), seems very much their type of forward.

EtH reportedly thinks that our forward line is short of physicality - hence the links to Sesko (1.94m) and, when RBL beat us to that deal, Arnautovic (1.92m).

Jonathan David wouldn't fit the profile.

Why is no one signing him? Why is no one interested? Why the feck aren't we interested?

He looks a a great talent from the videos anyway. It's baffling me. The last time I saw a big talent sit in the French league under a radar before a big club moved, it was Fabinho.

i am surprised Newcastle is not interested after their failed attempt to sign Ekitike.

Really wish we were in for him, he's a great talent and would fit like a glove in ETH's system

I think as someone else pointed out we might be looking for a more physical striker.

Had we shifted Martial or Ronaldo I’d expect us to have seriously looked at him.

Are we even linked with him? I would honestly love to sign him!

Can play upfront, on the left or the right. Young with the potential to grow, 2 footed, quick, physical enough to cope in the PL, decent enough goalscorer and knows the language which makes me believe he would do extremely well in the PL.

While he may not start every game especially if Ronaldo stays, since he is so versatile he would get plenty of gametime this season and he could be the successor to Ronaldo upfront from next season.

Knowing United, we probably haven't even had a glance at him and even if we did, he is probably going to cost us at least £40m-£50m minimum and I'm not sure we would be willing to pay that sadly.

Surely this guy can replace obviously Greenwood or even Elanga who is blatantly not good enough. You just get the deal done regardless if we genuinely were interested in improving the squad for the coming years.

Could be a Greenwood replacement not the same player but a good two footed attacker.

David's issue at the moment is his consistency. He's yet to be consistent enough for a top, title-challenging team. Even when he was performing in that title-winning Lille team, he was still not a consistent attacking threat. There were games where he'd barely get involved mostly because he'd make the wrong runs or get in the wrong positions, similar to Martial. On that note, he's not necessarily a pure out-and-out striker, just like Martial. Sure, he can score goals, but he can't necessarily lead the attacking line on his own. He's always been at his best for both Canada and Lille with another forward partnering him. In the pre-season, he's been playing more as a Rooney-like #10, and he's thrived in that role.

Maybe he can work well as a false-9 sort of lone striker under ten Hag, but he won't be leading United's or any top club's front line unless he improves his movement and positioning as part of the attacking build-up. He has all of the other tools to potentially be a top striker hence why he can still produce the goods even if he's not in his ideal role.

Jonathan meet Benni.

Should be after him since sesko is joining Leipzig now

Maybe we should all email Arnold?
Didn't that stop the Arnautovic talks?

He looks fat, like someone playing in Socceraid five years after retirement

Looks great. Love his balance.

It’s so annoying that amid all this flurry of apparent transfer activity in the aftermath of Sunday, all the cack player threads have Ornstein and Witwell reporting our interest, while all the exciting players are bumped by “so how come we’re not in for this guy?”.

I do like what I have seen of him but concerning why we are not in for this exciting player in particular I would imagine professional scouts don't think he is all that. It is not simply that we are not in for him, by all accounts nobody is looking at him or has even hinted at a bid and this is despite clubs like Newcastle being turned down left and right by every striker in Europe.

Said all summer he'd be my top pick for an attacking signing.

It'll never happen though.

Fully agree with all this. I've always seen him as similar to Martial, the good and the not so good.

It would be a risk, but if it panned out, how great would it be (from our perspective) to have a successful Canadian playing for United? It still bothers me that Alphonso slipped through our fingers (and Hargreaves was a crock).

We made a 7.5m enquiry for Arnautovic and we are in for Rabiot for relative peanuts.

Are these the actions of a club with a big budget? Not for me. I genuinely don't think the talks of a 100m budget plus any money from player sales was very far off the truth.

Maybe if we keep this thread relevant a bid will come. Im sure these feckers read the caf as part of their scouting

We’ve a £80million fee agreed with Barca

We need 2 midfielders at least

We just need new owners.

2,3,4 signings won't make slightest bit of difference if Rabiot is the calibre of player we are getting.

And lets not forget Malacia and Martinez are incredibly unproven too. They could end up being great signings or flops quite easily. Yet to be tested in a decent league.

The only safe bet for me is Eriksen. Quality player. You can be confident in him 100%.

then it clearly defeats your non point then doesn't it?

Why does it? Rabiot has seemingly been available all summer. Juve don't even rate him.

Why did we make the move the now? If he was part of the plan all along to come in with an another midfielder (aka FDJ) why have we waited till mid August?

Stop falling for their BS. Rabiot wasn't in the plans at all. We've panicked as usual.
