I hear what you're saying but it would only be true in this situation if all the male counterparts were actually decent, and they're not. Male pundits have been hit and miss for decades now, so it's not at the expense of very good male pundits at all. They're shit so why not open up the floor to different demographics and give them a go?
Barton is just annoyed that no one with a brain cell wants to hear his opinion on anything, and people that look different to him are being given opportunity he thinks he deserves.

Good post and agree. The reality is the vast majority of pundits do not provide us with much more than basic cliche analysis that to be honest is not real analysis. It does feel like female pundits are having to jump over a slightly higher bar when compared to their male compatriots in punditry. Which is sad but it tends to be a trend with diversity where the first batch of people are expected to be top level in what ever they do when in reality the vast majority of said injudstry is just basic. Eni Aluko is an example where her punditry is no better or worse than a Danny Murphy yet she will get called out.

The "sunlight is the best disinfectant" notion doesn't really hold true when the person you believe yourself to be arguing against doesn't care whatsoever about being proven wrong. See how quickly he devolves into childish insults when people argue against him; he doesn't want a debate, he wants continued attention. Like all of these "debate me" types, he's totally disingenuous and can't be swayed from his opinion because he himself doesn't believe what he's saying. Agreed, and this is the issue and something of the elephant in the room. That only leads to a section of supporters who actually support what Barton is saying.
Punditry is weird as it's almost become an entertainment piece now rather than adding value to the debate. Micah Richards laughing while adding no value. Roy Keane being a rent-a-quote caricature of himself.
There are some really decent people out there on various pods who can't get a break on the telly because we have "positive" discrimination of really low quality female pundits. Barton isn't one of them though.

I actually love that! First time seeing it.
Barton himself is only a part of the problem. He is a bitter hateful person, and individually those exist. The problem is his views have followers and attract people to his way of thinking. Ignoring him and hoping he goes away is not the answer because he has already created multiple like-minded supporters of his views. People like him are a virus in society, the vile cnut.
