Joao Felix

Which is saying a lot about the rest of your team.

Oh it's a staggering indictment!

I do think it's also interesting though because a bit part of why Felix was criticised at Atleti was his lack of shot volume - obviously very small sample size but seemingly that might be more of a Simeone-specific problem based on what we've seen at Chelsea so far.

Can’t believe we got Weghorst instead of Felix when both were available. Can’t wait till the Glazers feck off.

To be honest, I'm glad we didn't. feck Atletico and giving in to their demands. €11m + his wages for 5 months is pathetic piece of business. If it was the difference between top 4 or not then it'd probably be worth it, but we're very likely to get top 4 anyway.

Tbf, that was essentially his amortisation wasn't it? Aleti paid €126m for him and put him on a seven year contract. That works out to €18m+wages per year. Of course, Chelsea paid €11m but tbf, there was more of a second half of a season left than there would typically be due to the WC.

Of course it’s a loan move in the middle of the season. No one is claiming that he’s declaring his undying love for Chelsea by agreeing to a loan move. I dont think it’s controversial to say he’d prefer Chelsea in the summer over despite lack of CL football after spending 6 months here.
I actually hope he goes to Chelsea. How Atletico and Simeone are treating him is a disgrace, it’s as if Jose’s and Pogbas season of hatred lasted many years and they didnt either sack Jose or sell the player to this very this day.

This is my line of thinking, their demands were just so unreasonable that under any other circumstance he'd still be at Atletico. Think he'll make a very positive impact for Chelsea in the second half of the season.

I really don't get this thinking, is it ego?

I don't think it's ego, 12 odd million is just a ridiculous amount of money for 6 months service with no guarantees of securing the player permanently.

What if it was Mbappe? Weghorst cost us 2m just to be a body up front. I can understand if fans just want to save ten mil but incredibly bad business? Just don't get the reaction

Yeah but it isn't Mbappe, not to say Felix is a bad player by any stretch. Maybe the poster's choice of wording isn't the best but I do agree with where he's coming from.

It's but if he had helped us challenge for the title, it would've been entirely worth it.

I'd love to see Joao Felix here, as he can be an incredible player on his day and blessed with unreal technical ability, but purely from a business perspective it's not a good one, especially when there is no option to sign him permanently after the loan. It's not my money, but we need to stop having clubs overpricing their players just because we have a history of paying whatever it takes as Maguire and Antony are great examples of. Besides, we're not in desperate need of him. Rashford can play as our CF the rest of the season with Sancho, Garnacho, Antony battling it out on the wings. When (if) Martial decides to stop being as fragile as he is, he can play CF while Rashford goes back to the left. We've likely secured Champions League next season, so having Joao Felix wouldn't exactly make a big difference. We'd get to watch a lovely player on his day for 6 months and he can be quite entertaining, but is that worth 12m? I don't think so.

Fair enough. I didn't think anyone would feel that strongly about a loan. IMO, 10m is the average rate for a punt on a young player that you can write off anytime. Plus if the player doesn't do as well as expected, we won't be saddled with a big contract. I just wanted the best available in the market.

It's a good point, but as we've seen time and time again, loanees or players whose contract is about to expire suddenly burst into a form never seen before and put in top performances only to turn average again after a permanent transfer or a fat, new contract. Initially, I thought we'd get Weghorst on loan for free but knowing we paid €3m to Besiktas, we should've just paid €8m more and gone for Felix instead, really. Luckily, Chelsea don't have an option to buy, so if it turns out he's a great fit for the Premier League and consistently put in world class performances, we could in theory enter the race to sign him after his loan. We're the better team, better manager, very likely in Champions League and a solid and stable squad whereas Chelsea is all over the place with no plan.

Osimhen would be a better fit for us but I'd love to see Felix here if not. Very classy player.

I'll say it again. The money Chelsea paid to Atleti was essentially his booked cost spread over his contract. Tbf, there is a argument that he isn't worth what Atleti paid for him, but equally him and DS are a match made in hell whilst Chelsea were/are desperate. For me, the deal wasn't that bad as it was essentially AM saying you can have him, if you cover our costs, whilst we figure out what we do.

Yeah Erik must be looking at him and wondering why we wouldn't push boat out. He could have made difference in those late January games.

Osimhen won't be a better fit for us. Neither would Halaand. Kane would be though. Go ahead... argue with me

We are currently what you were last season. An absolute shitshow on the pitch. Yet that didn’t stop Casemiro from leaving a comfy Madrid lifestyle with almost guaranteed medals. This season you have turned it around for sure but last season you were in relegation form, don’t forget that. Players don’t look at that, they look at lifestyle, location, how it affects their family and obviously money. London is a big pull.

So I’d counter your point and say if he does end up being a success and he is happy at Chelsea and in London then I don’t see why he would leave to go to Manchester if Chelsea made a permanent transfer proposal. Regardless of what happens this season.

Yeah I'm with you on this.

It's not that a move to Man Utd wouldn't be a great opportunity, and purely from a sporting side maybe more so than current Chelsea given they're further along in ETH's project and almost guaranteed to have CL next season, but if Felix spends the six months this season to get acclimatised to the new surroundings (club/city), gets shoehorned in as a starter and starts getting comfortable on the pitch with his new team mates why would he want to blow it all up to go anywhere else and start from scratch again? I could easily see him wanting to stay if the loan goes well but he could also go back to Atletico if Simeone leaves the club.

There's also the question of where he'd even play in a setup like United's. Out on the left there's Rashford currently in the form of his life and in the middle behind the striker there's Bruno Fernandes who I doubt he'd displace either. Up front is a possibility but while he can definitely play there he's not really a striker.

the way he has been talking about life at Chelsea, I'll be more surprised if we dont sign him permanent tbh.

Yeah our leeches wouldn't pay up for him and that still really wrangles with me. He could have made difference in those Palace or Arsenal games.

Does feel like you have a verbal agreement in place for him already having built up a relationship with him until end of the season

You are a lot worse than what we were last season. I think we were still top 4 on March

Felix is class and we should go for him if he's still available in the summer. Could depend on CL qualification, which looks unlikely for Chelsea.

If he settles in at Chelsea, which so far looks like he's done very smoothly, I doubt he'd choose another PL club over Chelsea despite the lack of CL football.

He is Chelsea bound, we missed the boat. They will easily pay the fee and he will be settled there by then, or apparently he already is.

From what Fabrizio keeps saying, it sounds like the clubs are already discussing it.

If you can’t see it being bad business there’s not much hope for you.

Probably cause United are a bigger club than Chelsea?

Agreed, but let that horrible club pay for their own mistakes.

I don't think he can be the difference between us challenging for the league or not this season.
He will be just like any other forwards we have, none of them can score goals consistently (apart from Rashford on his current form).
Add a top proven goalscorer however and we'll be in it. The current squad reminds me of Sir Alex's last season, he added RvP and we were flying.

They care about Champions League though.
Again, like Casemiro?

Honestly in recent history more players have picked Chelsea over United when given the choice. At least from what has been made public knowledge, In part due to location.

Look at the goal difference in the table he's 100% not the profile of player United need. More of a Bruno replacement but not prolific enough. United need to look at a Osimhen / Vlahovic.

I would have loved him at United, I think hes a quality player. The amounts AM wanted for the loan and the amounts they want for the fee in the summer were/are a joke though. They massively overpaid for him in the first place and he hasn't come close to justifying his price tag so pricing him at a similar amount to what they paid is fanciful. Then again, Chelsea seem to be spending money like its water so who knows. They will probably get that.

Hes in another league to Wout but hes also in a completely different price bracket. One we couldn't afford.
