João Mário

I know this is his role at Inter and Portugal international team, but if there is any truth in this rumor and the fact that Mario can play wide, then there is chance he's to be utilized the drifting from right role pf Mata, last season Mkhi
You could be right, but I hope not. I'd prefer a quicker winger that is a better dribbler and crosser.

If we gave them Mata plus cash we'd be getting a bad deal. At best we'll get a player capable of a similar level of involvement as Mata, but without any guarantee he'll have the quality to pop up with important contributions the way Mata does for us. And with Miki playing much worse than Mata it would make little sense to lose him at the moment.
Mata contract nearly runs out so it's not like he has much value in term of cash. Quality wise, as I and other had mentioned, Joao Mario can contribute as third midfielder while can also do the Mata role drifting from wing. While he doesn't show the height of great player, he is young and does have attributes that if well polished may end up as great player.. To be clear, I am skeptical on this Joao Mario guy. Just explaining the Mata situation.

Mkhi as bad as his form has been, he still can get back a good value in transfer market. We paid a reasonable fee so likely we wouldn't get shafted if we play our card right. His quality is plenty good for less ambitious teams, so we'd unlikely be short of offers

Are we giving them Mata and cash or are they giving us him and cash? How much cash if so?

Mata + cash I believe. If anything, Mata can agree terms with other clubs come January and we'd receive nothing in the summer. Mata in this trade at least give us some value. Whether Mata contribution in next 6+month is worth it, or trading him toward Joao Mario is another topic.

At this point even the interest is still speculation let alone fee, so who knows?

I doubt these rumors. For one one Joao Mario is not worth one Mikhitaryan. It doesn't matter that Mkhitaryan have been underwhelming recently he's one level above Joao Mario most definitely.

If Mata's contract runs out in 6 months then this whole Mata+cash deal is BS.

Don't think inter would be all that interested in swapping him for Mhki, Pastore is more realistic in that case

If United are considering getting rid of Mhki, they'd be better off testing the waters first, they might get a better deal than joao mario

A.Pereira is the one who should be worried about this deal, really. And I really rate João Mário as a wide playmaker.

Ogden is hardly reliable.

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake :)

Next Season, we will be without Carrick, possibly Fellaini & Mata, so that midfield pool will need to be restocked.
Plus, I think Mourinho is building a 4-3-1-2 formation which would require a right sided CM in the first XI

Always looks a little underwhelming to me. Like a Portuguese Fabian delph crossed with Ashley young.

Couldn't have said it any better. Average player... we've got a bunch of those at OT
Have to agree with you, this guy is an average player. He's no better than lingard, mata and miki. Love to see ozil in January (move on miki) and also Goretzka (mata will be gone in the summer) in the summer for free. Goretzka is going to be a star in the WC.

Average? Are people crazy? Sure, he's a team player, not a guy who can win a match on his own, but his influence on a team can be great. Sporting after he left were left wondering.

He's not that good.

Inter massively overpaid for him imo.

Please no, an average player that will only make the united team average. Sorry but thats the way it is.

He reminds me of Ramires for Chelsea with his energy in midfield, could be an option for us if we can get him on a cheap, he can carry the ball forward and does his defensive duties well. Would never swap him with Mhki because Mhki technically is way way better than Joao Mario.

Really have no idea about him. Except that he can play all across the midfield?

Would a trio of Matic, Pogba, Mario be good?

Inter are probably better than us in attack tbf.

Yeah so it’s best not to sign their rejects. Sign players that will improve us and our squad needs more technical players. I was up for Perisic because we simply do not have a player like him at the club.

Watched him against Juventus over the weekend and he was Meh. Infact the whole inter midfield was meh. Don't want another passenger. Since league title is already almost gone, lets wait till summer and find a good one.

He wont be able to make the step up. What he did at Sporting is irrelevant at this point if he cant do it for Inter, let alone for us.
It is too risky to buy a player that could be a decent player for us at best. The potential for him to be completly useless is high. I would stay away, it is not like we can buy him for 10m and try him out and if it doesnt work out we sell him for 8m to someone else

He might improve us. Performed well at the Euros, just because things haven't worked out at Inter doesn't mean they can't elsewhere. I don't have any major desire to sign him but if we did I would not be crying either.

Utter B.S. this.

United refused to budge on their 30 mil valuation of Perisic last Summer who is a far better player. Not paying 45 for this guy.

The guy is Portuguese and so is our manager. Reminds me of the good old days under Van Gaal when we linked to every Dutch player with two legs. Linked to players like Ron Vlaar and Nigel De Jong .

He didn’t play against Juventus.

I think we could do with this guy as the third guy in a midfield three. He could be the legs to carry the ball forward and do the running to cover for Pogba adventures up front(If that's how he plays, I've never watched him play ever in my life).

Read some comments from Inter fans in their forum about him, seems he's a good runner but all of them are heavily complaining about his finishing and shooting.

João Mário is the type of player that gets underrated, he's very good on the ball, he presses well, his corners are fantastic, he can create chances and most importantly he gives a lot of balance and calm to the team by doing the small things right. He's a very smart player and I can see why Mourinho would be interested. His problem is that when he gets close to goal his shooting and general decision making is terrible.

Good player who's good enough to be starting for Inter even though it seems like he lost his spot, but he'd be someone United could buy for some depth in midfield, not to be a starter. There are far bigger problems in this United team that need fixing and João Mário wouldn't really solve anything imo.
