Champions League finalists Bayern Munich target Manchester United's £7m Ji-Sung Park

Bayern Munich want Manchester United winger Ji Sung Park and are ready to bid £7million.

The South Korean is a popular figure at Old Trafford but ambitious Bayern recognise United are approaching a transitional stage and want to tempt them to sell and help fund their rebuilding.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he needs two players but privately there are concerns he will need at least four top level performers with question marks over Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Carrick, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, plus Owen Hargreaves still to prove his long term fitness.

Park, 29, has been a key figure in United's big games, scoring against Arsenal, Liverpool and AC Milan, but has endured fitness concerns himself following international matches involving long haul travel.

He is contracted until 2012 and only this week said he wanted to stay at Old Trafford for the rest of his career.

However, Bayern want to offer United a 90 per cent profit on the £4m they paid PSV Eindhoven for him in 2005 and that could trigger his departure.

United have their own targets in mind including Everton's Steven Pienaar, Valencia's David Silva and Sotiris Ninis of Panathinaikos but are still to determine their budget.

Park is worth much more than that, and he wants to stay. He was fantastic when he got healthy again. Bayern can eabod.

the daily racist is not very good at maths is it...

probably all a ruse to have one less imigrant in the country with that shower of cnuts

I'd sell him for £12m+ tbh, I love him but he isn't indispensable. It would piss off Evra though.

I love Park.

But 7-10 million for a 29 year old is pretty good money. It would make me think!

Ji-Sung Park: I Want To Be Like Ryan Giggs And Finish My Career At Manchester United - Goal.com

Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park has revealed his desire to see out his career at Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old's current contract will keep him at the club until the summer of 2012, but the South Korean international hopes that will be extended so he can emulate his team-mates Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes and finish his career at United.

"If it is possible I want to finish my career at Manchester United," Park told The Korea Times.

"Manchester United is the world's best club. There is no reason to move to any other team.

"As the club encourages footballers to stay with the team, there are many old boys such as (Paul) Scholes and (Ryan) Giggs.

"If the club takes care of me and helps me improve, it is natural to stick with them. However, we don't know the future."

On Monday, Park was named in his country's 30-man provisional squad for this summer's World Cup. He currently has 59 caps for South Korea, scoring five goals.

I know Park is a player for us by merit and one I love to have playing for us. But the revenue he must pull in from Korea surely would be enough to dismiss any offer like this without thought.

I think you are correct.

I also think it's time we made an offer for Chung-Yong Lee (of Bolton) He has really impressed me this season, and is still only 22/23. Plus any transfer fee would be recouped by shirt sales in Korea.

I'd be tempted to sell, mainly, and perhaps foolishly because I'd love to see Tosic given a chance. We also probably have to trim the squad down for the new rules next season, and since Park is by no means a starter, we can afford to sell him.

we would never sign a player just for shirt sales

:nervous:especially if they had a daft name like dong and were a bit gash...

We wouldn't sell Park to Bayern. No way.

He is much too valuable to our club on the pitch and off it. I think he has done enough to remain here for the foreseeable future anyway. He's a decent all rounder when we give him the freedom to express himself in his natural position.

Very valuable squad member, worth more than £7m to United in terms of what he brings on the pitch. Sort of player who could be a squad member here for the rest of his career, saving the club from having to spend money to bring in a replacement and building continuity, as well as maximum effort and professionalism, within the squad. Might get more in wages than the average Premiership squad member, but then he helps us bring it in by being so popular in Korea.

Model professional, captain of his country, wants to stay at United. No real reason to let him go...except that those long trips he has to make for South Korea will catch up to him before long, if they haven't already. I wouldn't be sad if he stopped playing for his country, but I don't think that's going to happen.

However if he is exposed to gamma radiation and mutates into a virus, Sir Alex might consider selling him to Bayern Munich. Until then, definitely not.

£7m doesn't even buy you a footballers nowadays, why bother selling someone who's glad to be a back-up option and plays well at times and then trying to replace him when it certainly won't bring you any profits.

It makes no sense from his point of view either as he wouldn't get into Bayern side ahead of Robben and Ribery as much as he won't be first choice ahead of Valencia and Nani most of the time here. Dare I say he has a better chance of playing a lot here than over there.

It'd be a different scenario if he wanted to leave, or if the price was tempting (£10m+) but it most certainly isn't if Bayern are offering him a back-up role he has at United and offering us £7m that won't buy u a replacement.

Park's value transcends 7m. As stated above, he's a model professional, doesn't complain about not being selected, wants to stay at United for the rest of his career. Those sort of intangibles are priceless.

We don't actually need the 7M, we're not... ehm.. the scouse.

Besides, Park still got 2-3 years due to him having 3 lungs, so... I'd rather we just kept him, he got experiences and workrate, and does the job when being called up, and can accept that he won't start week in week out.

Shouldnt someone on here start making up some rumors that'll eventually pop up in the newspapers? - City to pay off United debt in exchange for Rooney, or something along the lines of that

We don't get money from shirt sales, Nike does...correct?

It's not down to shirt sales. Everything Manchester United is popular there. I think there was an article about 1m people had Man United credit cards there. Then when we go there on tour, it's like the Beatles on steroids.

Park is a very versatile player with an incredible work rate. His head is screwed on right and he has a United heart. He's also the player with the biggest fan club in the world. It's not weird that he is one of three players fronting the ads each pre-season in a new kit.

Wouldn't wan't to see him go. No way. He wants to end his career here and he's kinda the perfect bench player for our team. No youngster could replace him in that department.

Anything below 14m I'd say Feck off. Park is a very valuable squad member... the winner Vs Liverpool was just a few weeks before.... and his MotM performance vs Milan was class act...

this, although I'd rather have him in the team. His performances are making the "bought to sell shirts" brigade eat their words. Add to that a never say die attitude, gives it all on the pitch, humble, well mannered, and keeps the dogs off the street. Why would we sell?

Why's everyone so bothered about how much we get for selling players??

We hardly saw the 80million Ronaldo money, did we!

i was going to post something along these lines.

Absolutely no way, Park is not a player I'd want us to sell this moment in time.

He works his socks off, he scores some important goals (namely this season) and he always does it against the big teams especially. He keeps himself to himself, he just gets his head down and gets on with it plus he doesn't bitch or moan if left on the bench. His attitude is very much like Ole's and that's a rare thing to have.

The epitome of a great squad player, versatile and low maintenance, no way we'll be interested in selling.

Easy to forget he only cost us 4m quid.

With Evra costing £5m and Vidic £7m, Ferge has proved it is still possible to pick up top class players for bargain basement fees. Stick those fachts in your pipe, Senor Benitez.

Also something to remember when people write off the likes of Diouf, Hernandez and Obertan, just because they didn't cost a fortune.
