If it was Chelsea, they would somehow be able to sell him for 40m

Yeah but that comes with the "we can't afford that" and Roman asking them to check what's in that big brown bag behind them that wasn't there 10 minutes ago. Suddenly they have another £30m to spend on the transfer

Because it's cheaper than buying new players

Yes, cheaper than buying new players, but even so, would Mata have only re-signed because £140k per week was put on the table?
No, he would have accepted far less than that.
Remember when Giggs & Scholes were in their 30's and given one year deals, I don't recall them being offered bumper pay rises each time.

20m is a fair price

When WHU value Declan Rice at £100m, but they baulk at £30m for an experienced International attacker, who was the main reason for them getting European football..?

Hs is an attacking English player who played an important role in WHU getting European football.

Anything less than 20m would be a joke and that's just because he got 1 year left on his contract.

Well if he leaves then prepare yourself for a laugh. £20m would be an amazing price for someone like Lingard in this climate. I hope we get it but who knows.

28, 1 year left on contract, on huge wages and he's been largely poor and inconsistent for years. And of course Covid.

I disagree. I take your point but another way of looking at it is - was outstanding at West Ham, is English, in his prime years, would probably sign a new contract if offered, negating the last year of contract issue, and is an experienced international. I'd say United should be asking at least 20-25m.

I'm sure he's recovered by now

We can ask all we want, fact is no team so far are willing to stump up the money we want for him.

Almost 29 with one year left on his contract !!
Going to be hard to get big money for him.

Why can't Arsenal just go out and sign James Maddison from Leicester and then Leicester give us £30M for Lingard as his replacement.

Everyone's a winner

Over a short period of time, he had a period of form for United like that too back in 2017. In between he didn't play that well so West Ham aren't naive enough to think that's the sort of form he'll produce all the time.

is English,

Yes and what benefit does that bring to West Ham or any other club?

in his prime years,

He's 29 in a few months.

would probably sign a new contract if offered, negating the last year of contract issue,

Well as far as we know no contract has been offered and there's no guarantee that he would sign it. So right now in July 2021 he has less than a year to run on his current deal. Which dramatically reduces his potential value.

and is an experienced international.

United could ask for £120m the problem is though you have to find someone willing to pay it. As I said £20m would be an amazing deal for United. But if I had to bet on it I suspect it'll be closer to £15m if he goes as West Ham are skint.

Being reported (the S*n) that he's asked to stay. Surely, even if true, we sell him now. Come on.

If it is true about us playing 2 attacking mids and 1 defensive next season, maybe Ole could use him as a back up for that.

Straight swap Lingard for Trippier would be fair.

Similar ages both 1 year left on their deals.

Okay, let's agree to disagree!

I may be biased but Manchester & Arsenal would be winners but Leicester gets shafted.

Would make too much sense.
But surely Lingard isn't up for moving country with his personal family issues?

"Lingod and Phil Jones - just as good as having two brand new signings" - Ole, August 2021

It it was Chelsea, he would be in half the money he is now. We give extremely high salaries to mediocre players and then wonder why we cannot get rid of them.
