Jesse Lingard | Seoul singer

The lifestyle in Seoul is fascinating if you have money of course. Koreans also love fashion and football, especially United.

It would be a good and smart business opportunity for Lingard.
He is also the first real European football star who will play in the Korean league, no?
I don't particulatly dislike the lad, unlike many on here, but "star" is a little bit of a stretch.

The K League will definitely promote him as the former Premier League, England International and Manchester United star.

I am ok with Lingard, I don't dislike him either.

18 months without a goal/assist was it?
Yeah but he did score on possibly the last kick of the season against Leicester and destroyed someone who had bet that he won't have a goal or an assist till the end of the season

I presume you saw that bit you bolded and jumped to respond without reading the next two sentences? As I said - 'It was only in his last couple of years where it obviously all fell apart'. That 18 months was part of that. Up until that period he was better than his competitors.

Also, even that 18 months is a bit exaggerated. It was only true in the league (he had 2 goals and 2 assists in other competitions), and he had less than 16 matches worth of minutes in that time. He was playing terribly, but it's not like he was playing 90 minutes every game.

Wasnt that when Kasper Schmeichel felt bad for Lingard and decided to just give him a goal?

I remember when people used to argue he was a good squad player. I guess all it takes is being a part of the academy and any old shite will be tolerated in our squad

He could have been a decent squad/backup player if we had a stronger squad overall. The fact that we didn't just highlighted the fact that he wasn't good enough, and he started more games than someone of his quality should have.

Anyway, hope he does well in South Korea. I think it's a cool move

You dont realize how bad our players are until they leave the club. It's amazing how many players leave and can even get to mid table teams squads.

One of the most spectacular career suicides ever. He thought he was too good for the hammers.

That's harsh.

While it's easy to say he shouldn't have been a starter for us, the reality is that he outperformed our other options for the majority of his time here. So we'd have been even worse off it we'd sold him early. It was only in his last couple of years where it obviously all fell apart and he was dreadful.
Just complete fantasy. He was terrible for the majority of his career at United, he lived off a 3 month purple patch that he never got close to replicating.

Dunno, think a lot of us realised how shit he was while he was here.

That's hilarious, because a week before the game I dreamt he'd score. When he came on I, along with 3 of my mates all watching it together, decided to bet he'd score because of it. Suffice to say, limbs were everywhere once he did and it's just about the only good memory we have of him.

Nah, he was actually a good squad player under Mourinho and maybe in the early days under Ole. He seems to be very immature though and if you're not switched on you won't get anywhere, especially when you were a hardworking squad player with very limited talents. Just misguided. Happens. Shame he didn't try to make it work at West Ham, a huge opportunity lost for him.

What a waste of a football career.

No wonder we’ve been shite for a decade when we’ve had wastes of space like him playing for us.

To get as many games for United on the wages he was on with his level of talent, I'd argue he's had a fantastic career. Sucks for us though.

I dont think anyone would have realistically said he was korean league level, most of us thought mid-low premier league the most critical said championship but Korean league is whole another low.

He was only a significant squad member between 2015 and 2020, even though it feels like he's been around for as long as we've been shit.

During those 5 years, some of his performances were, admittedly, horrendous. But he still contributed to plenty of good ones, even scoring a couple of very important goals at Wembley. He was definitely played too much, though, especially when he was struggling with family issues.

His personalities Marmite. But from what I've heard, he's helped a lot of people in Manchester over the years. So yeah...

Good luck in S.Korea, Milly Rock.

Which of our other players were better and deserved to be starting ahead of him?

He wasn't good enough that he 'should' have been a starter, but for the earlier part of his career he would have been a decent squad player. The problem was that our other options were worse, so he ended up being a starter way more than he should have been. Somehow he gets more hate for that than the players who were worse. It was also an issue that we mostly played him on the right despite him generally looking better when playing through the middle.

It was only towards the end of 18/19 where it really started going wrong for him and then 19/20 he was genuinely atrocious.

He thinks it's a cool move but constant adoring curious attention is not what he might get. 10 years ago maybe, but foreign players are old hat in the K league and there's no exotica level that will get you off scrutiny. Kinsman is getting pelters from all angles for his tactical uselessness and 2 lazy performances in a row will have Lingard looking daft. Plenty of good homegrown players in SK.

Good luck to him. Lord knows why he thought he was better than West Ham, but I guess this is what you get.

Crazy to think that we all knew he wasn't good enough all those years ago and yet he produced numbers that our £85m man could only dream of.

Rooney talking about him dancing at Carrington the day after losing vs Liverpool and then doing it again another time. Starts at 36:19 as it isn't timestamping properly for some reason.

Tbf he's not talking just about Lingard. Neville mentions him in regards to dancing. Rooney is talking generally about the culture of United not being the same post Fergie.

Side-note: Rooney seems like a good laugh; never imagined he would be.

It’s been like if you’re at really good but strict school. You know you can get away with a tiny bit of banter. Then the teacher retires and they all go into substitute teacher mode. You can see how this was never going to get the max out of stroppy young entitled players who were filthy rich and famous before they’d even achieved anything. The dancing used to always get me too. Dude spent his carear going around acting like he’s an 11 year old girl. He was a total laughing stock and he loved it
