Have to admit I groaned when he was subbed on but he did his job in spectacular fashion this time. Keep it up.

Same for me, he was the least likely attacking player i expected to score. When he scored i thought it was Sancho too.. just didnt even consider that it could be Lingard. I guess it will take some time for me to forget about his pre West Ham form.

Still dont think he is good enough. If everyone would be fit, it would be Rashford in that position taking that shot. Lingard should still be the back up of the second choice for many of the attacking positions.

Was Phil Neville, Quinton fortune, David May etc etc all PL winning first eleven players? No.
You have a strange idea of what a squad player is. Not all are going to play 40 games a season

You are quoting or arguing with me out of context. I have already said he is an ok squad player, and if he carries on as he has started then great. It was then suggested that considering his last two games he should be considered a good enough first team player for United, and that United was his level. I disagree, his level for starting 40 games a year is Everton/West Ham, and I am arguing he should be wanting to play that many games. At United he won't be getting that many games, barring severe injuries. The examples you made, or at least one of them exactly show what I mean. Phil Neville was a good squad player for us, but he wasn't good enough to play every game, he goes to Everton and plays regular football. If Jesse is content with playing a limited number of games, plus subs, then inarguably given the form he is in then he has a role to play.

My concern was we would play him more than he should expect in order to get him to sign a new contract, to preserve his value. This was shown, imo, by shoe horning him into the CF role against YB, where there was literally no good reason to do so.

No I still dont want him to extend, he really should be looking for a club that will give him 40 games a season, and he is not good enough for us to do that.
What’s your problem seriously. He’s a backup for crying out loud, no one is saying he should start. If he keeps doing what he has been doing this season coming of the bench, what’s the big deal?

so, Tuesday he comes on, makes a mistake and loses us a game. Sunday he scores and wins us a game. I’d say he has earned himself a bit of redemption for his mistake. All square- the manager is backing him publicly and so he needs to keep the head down and crack on.

Monday, he is liking articles which say that he should be a starter and not playing second fiddle to anyone? He needs to quit being so public about shit and just get on with it. He is deluded if he thinks he should be starting games.

What’s wrong with him liking a few articles that are in support of him? It’s not like he’s gone out drinking on a workday. Jesus. Stop sweating the small stuff and enjoy your own life

As a fan- I fuking can’t stand this social media shit and think this type of bullshit is advised by agents etc. to put pressure on clubs and gain publicity. Ole has done a great job of getting the character right at the club- Jesse has history with his stupid videos and clothing shite- I happen to think of all people in the squad, he should cop on. I find this shit irritating and unnecessary. Is that ok with you?

I was excited for him to come one and my son and I said with 10 minutes to go, we're going to get one and we both hoped it was Jessie.

He looks lively, as he did for West Ham last yr. I want him to stay and provide this spark, even fighting into the starting 11. He's showing tons of quality not the least of which is resilience.

And as for his not celebrating, I personally thought it was a touch of class after the welcoming the fans gave him. Michael Owen should go fly a kite.

Tbf the difference is we have some glaring holes in our first 11, and unlike those two can't just turn the money tap on. If selling any of them had allowed us to bring in a quality cm it would have made sense. Fair play to lingard though, he is making many, myself included change our opinions.

I'm not the account at Utd nor am I the manager. The narrative about needing to sell to buy might be right, but everyone assumes Ole wants one. The only people that seem to want one is the media and some fans. I think we need a proper CDM, but honestly for the last 2 seasons he's played McFred.

I think some like myself have mentioned this in the interest of using those funds to balance out the squad ie central midfield.

As said, not entirely sure that was the deal in order to get a CDM or that's how it works anyway....

Lingard is on 75k p.w so it makes zero sense but Martial’s case is different, he is on 250k p.w. When Cavani and Rashford are fit again that could make Martial becomes even less relevant to the squad. It makes sense to move Martial on as he is on high wages.

But we have players like Mata and Jones who are on high wages too and no where near the first team? Like said, how does City and Chelsea justify it.

Take a look at this:

Pogba Ronaldo Greenwood Bruno
Rashford Cavani Sancho Lingard

How can you justify that Martial has place in there? Not even City and Chelsea have 250k p.w as their 3rd choice LW or 3rd choice striker.

Honestly, his performances for United before the loan were very unexciting, we k ow he had issues outside of football in his private life. United needed to buy new to ensure we can try and keep in touch with the leaders. Now with a better squad, Lingard is better and a good team player. But given his perspective of wanting to be worshipped I can expect him to move.

Old man shouting at clouds vibe with this. I'm not a huge fan of social media but it's how some people like to live. He's a devoted professional and you shouldn't begrudge him the things that make him happy when they effect literally nobody (other than you it seems).

Fortunately I don't but it's not just the numbers, it's also based on where you play and also if everyone is fit. Pogs is a midfielder so doesn't count. Ronaldo/ Eddy; Greenwood/Sancho; Rashford/Tony; Lingard/Bruno. Most teams have two players for each position. The 250k is irrelevant as not many teams could afford his contract anyway.

Its like you dont bother reading posts. I don't have a problem with it as I have said in multiple posts. If he decides he wants to stay at United for any number of reasons, is willing to be paid for being a bit part player on lower wages, coming off the bench as needed and with a few games when needed great. What I don't want to see is Jesse get 120k a week, and guarantees of minimum playing time, which seems to have been the problem.

Multiple people on here have started to say that he is Man United level, he isn't, he is Man United subs bench level. Should Jesse be happy with 10 games a season and sub appearances at 29? No, but there may be other factors at play that mean that is good enough for him. What I definitely dont want to see is Lingard given games as a CF in a 1-1 draw in the CL just to get him game time so he will sign a contract.

Put Pogba as a midfielder alongside Matic, Fred, and McTominay, can you still justify that Martial has place in there?

Of course 250k p.w is relevant because we are paying crazy for someone who is not even an option as two players for each position which we could move him on to strengthen other area.

Anyone in here disrespectful towards JL or offering their expert opinion on his worth as a player can go do one. Only he made that turn, scored that goal. It was a Jesse goal. Take a break from your touchscreen and get some air.

Im failing to see why it winds fans like you up so much? It’s not like he does it on the pitch

People are justified to criticise an attacker that didn't score or make an assist for two years.

One good goal, albeit poor defending, isn't going to change that.

If Lingard produces consistently for a full season then fair play to him, that would be a remarkable turn around. But one or two games doesn't mean anything.

Yeah I’ll take that on the chin. I’m far too drawn in by this Lingard stuff. I don’t rate him. Don’t rate his England performances and aside from 7 or 8 games in a counter attacking set up for West Ham, he has done nothing to warrant game time at Man Utd. A cracking goal here or there doesn’t change that just as his mistake didn’t make that opinion any more relevant. In general, as a footballler, I think he has had more chances then he deserves at Utd and would have a great career elsewhere. Same for Perreira, Mata and soon to be Martial by the looks of it.

I watched Gavi at 17 come on and change a game for Barcelona last night...Pedri at the Euros, Camavinga, Reyna, our own Greenwood and Rashford. We have amazing talent in their teens and none of them are anywhere near being trusted of getting game time. I don’t give a fuk about winning stuff right now if we are playing shite football and sticking with the old reliables to get us over the line. We are rebuilding here and I would like to see Amad, Elanga, Shoretire or Hannibal getting the 90 minutes Jesse will get in the Carabao cup tomorrow. It’s that simple.

I’m not a fan of his or Pogba’s approach to using social media...but that’s just a generational thing I guess.

As another 47 year old the social media stuff doesnt bother me, probably because I am so old I dont use most of them much anyway

Brilliant Goal against West Ham.

A double edged sword, deadly at both ends of the pitch. Luckily this time he's facing towards the correct side. If this is the kind of impact he'll have when he comes on as a sub, then more of it please.

My point is you are suggesting he shouldn’t be happy as a bench player, which I don’t get. What makes you think he’s not happy? He was a started few years ago and we upgraded with better players, he understands he’s not gonna start many games now but he’s happy to help the team when needed like he did Sunday.

What’s wrong if he signs a new contract and is still putting in good contributions like he’s done for us and England so far. Many teams will be interested and we get a good transfer fee. Win win for both parties.

Why does how much he gets paid bother you when he’s actually putting in his best when he comes on? Compared that to players making way more and basically putting in no effort.

I’m not even a big fan of Lingard but he went on loan resurrected his career and is willing to play a part for United, what’s soo bad about that?

Give blame and credit when and where they are due. Lingard's match-winner may not have been on the scale of Macheda against Aston Villa all those years ago, but it really was an important match-winner to not only take the three points but also make sure the players kept up our confidence. The Ole Outters would have been in full voice, knives fully sharpened. As it is, we're on 13 points after 5 matches and tied for top of the table.

Man Utd 0:1 West Ham
Thought he wanted to make it all about himself and poor decision making was the result

He did more than most players today, tried to make stuff happen and pressed well. Anyone saying it was a selfish or shit performance have no eyes.

Good game. Much better than anyone in attack that started the game.

He’s obviously better as an impact sub. Tries too hard, but the way we played I don’t really know what else he was supposed to do.

Yeah was a bit greedy hitting shots from outside the box at times when there were passes to Sancho and Greenwood on. But he's scored a few recently so I suppose he can be forgiven.

Thought he was our best player. Did everything with real purpose, tried to make things happen. Great movement and energy. I can understand if people feel he was a bit greedy but he’s in form he’s entitled to shoot when he fancies it

I thought he was good. Not exceptional but very bright. I think he's laying down a claim for more minutes in more meaningful games.
