Just look back on what he has done since youth team, it’s no strange for him to get himself out of difficult situation. He is a great asset to the team. Hope he can continue to keep fit physically and mentally, and help us in the title challenge.

Never been his biggest fan, too many annoying social media posts (bus being attacked at West Ham and BEANS) and his attitude was all wrong.
I always thought he had the skill but his mentality and immaturity let him down, but he seems more focused this season. Let's hope he keeps it up because he could be like a new signing for us.

Well done to Jesse, the treatment he get's on this forum is shocking, so many fickle people out there these days and I glad he shut a few mouths up, at least for now...

Hypocritical, wishy-washy Bell Ends the lot of them.

He is the Vazquez of United. If vazquez could play a role in UCL winning team surely lingard have a role here.

Delighted for him. Him and Dave today came up trumps.

Remember all the “he found his level” comments when he was at West Ham? Has he levelled up?
I think he was always capable of goals like this but his family problems took him off course for over a year. Ole and he decided that he’d go on loan to try and get his form back. Well done Ole.
he’s definitely a good squad player to have around.

Delighted for him after what happened during the week. 2 cracking goals so far, he’s going to be a great asset this season I think

Never understood, City and Chelsea can have a stacked squad and people see that positively. Yet, some fans are saying that we should looked to sell the players like Jesse, DVB and Martial. Makes zero sense.

I’m not sure where is the similarity. Lingard’s role and ability are above Vazquez, the guy bench both Donny and Martial in pecking order.

Tbf the difference is we have some glaring holes in our first 11, and unlike those two can't just turn the money tap on. If selling any of them had allowed us to bring in a quality cm it would have made sense. Fair play to lingard though, he is making many, myself included change our opinions.

I think some like myself have mentioned this in the interest of using those funds to balance out the squad ie central midfield.

Lingard is on 75k p.w so it makes zero sense but Martial’s case is different, he is on 250k p.w. When Cavani and Rashford are fit again that could make Martial becomes even less relevant to the squad. It makes sense to move Martial on as he is on high wages.

When he's focused, he can overtake Martial without a sweat.

The type of goal best wingers score.
Martial got more goals and assist than him in the prem with about 24 more games played and before you say Martial is a striker, that hasn’t always been the case except for the last 2 seasons.

 You said on Tuesday night you’d changed your mind again back to the negative. Your head must be wobbling

I feel like a bloody spinning top mate  I really want to belive he has come good, and it looks like he has, but after being so poor for so long Tuesday really gripped my shit.

Obviously it’s early in the season but I’m sensing a determination to prove people wrong from him but.. the season is long enough for the doom lords to get their day too. I’m sure they will get their chance

Well it's always good to have dependable options off the bench, long may it continue.

Well done to Jesse, the treatment he get's on this forum is shocking, so many fickle people out there these days and I glad he shut a few mouths up, at least for now...

I get that you like lingard but people who don't aren't wrong just because he's scored 2 goals in 2 games.

This is the same player who before this season had played 49 games in last 3 seasons and came up with a grand total of 5 goals and 2 assists in that period.

Barring the 17-18 season he's never scored more than 5 goals in a season, he's best assists tally is 5 for a season that too came in the 17-18 season, he's never got more than 2 assists in any other season he's been here.

I hope he does well but given his history of going on long goal less droughts I wouldn't start calling people critical of him bellends this early.

It was his best performance (not just the goal) in years in a United shirt. Credit where its due.

But that doesn't reverse the years of those other performances. Got to do it on a consistent basis.

It’s all focus and mentality with him. When Lingard is playing positively like he did against West Ham, driving with the ball, making one-touch passes to get shot opportunities in and around the box, he’s a tidy little player with a good finish in his locker.

The problem stems from his reticence to take charge. There were so many occasions where he was fielded to drive the attack but instead defers it to someone else like Pogba or Fernandes. It’s this ability to perform at peak mental focus and take charge that’s the difference between a great player and a good one. And in a United squad aiming to challenge all fronts, a good player is a rotation option, which is his level TBH.

That said, I don’t think he’s a winger or an inside forward; he definitely plays best as a 10 who’s allowed to roam.

Really happy for him yesterday. That goal will give him a lot of confidence and may even revive his career here.

Never hated him.

Especially since he helped us win the FA Cup for us.

I wonder the hate comes from being a good player who is inconsistent.

When you look at a player like TFM or andreas Pereira who does nothing at all - the hate is then miniscule.

I'm worried about over using him but he can score a quick snappy World class goal.

My feeling is that once Rashford comes back that Lingard see's less time on the pitch.

Goals will come from Rashford so he won't be missed.

Good player.

Hands up, great comeback performance from Lingard, cracking finish, I am willing to take an L here if he can do that off the bench. Still think he should have gone for his own good, still think we are offering him minutes for non tactical reasons to a point. However if Jesse can come on bang goals like that in from the subs bench this I am happy to say I got it wrong. Well done to Lingard for not dropping his head and going out there to make a point.

Just on a side note I don't know if anyone else was following the game via BBC app commentary, but in the commentary it gave its as West Ham 2-1 Man United and showed Lingard as the scorer. I have to admit to "oh no ffs Jesse", until they quickly changed it XD

No because he should not be happy with being a bench player, Jesse is good enough to play 40-45 games a season for a West Ham, Everton, etc. Really should not be satisfied with a handful of games and being a super sub. Your level is where you are as a key team player.

Well based on his (and the teams) last two performances he is a key team player and shouldn’t be a sub.

Although, obviously, the idea that no player should ever be willing to be a squad player at a club as big as United is clearly wrong.

Think the Lingard fans in here are quite a touchy bunch and generally post like teenagers using words like “hate”, “haters” and calling him”Jlingz”!

As I see it it is universally and completely beyond question, that Jesse has had an underwhelming and inconsistent Utd career to date. We can all agree on that. Some choose to still support him because he has grabbed a few goals or they believe in his talent. Good- you’re welcome to that opinion. others base their opinions on his inability to be consistent and his really awful performances when given a starting role as a number 10 (remember what we looked like before Bruno?)

that’s the extent of it. Nobody hates him, everyone is glad when he contributes, everyone appreciates he has had his struggles. It’s just some people want him in the squad and some people want to see younger players or other players given his minutes as they feel he has had enough chances already. No need to devolve the conversation. People who don’t rate him have more than enough video evidence as to why. Doesn’t mean they hate the lad- and it also doesn’t mean if he scores the odd goal here or there that their opinions are wrong.
I for one think long term, players like him, Mata, potentially Martial when Rashford returns, should not be getting minutes at all. Long term, we would be better served giving those minutes to Amad, DVB, Elanga, Shoretire and Hannibal. Does that mean I hate Jesse?

Jesse getting compilations again:drool: 30 of his best goals...

A fit and confident Lingard definitely has a place in the squad, very good at finding space and a very accurate finisher.

What about the CL game made you think he played well?

he did well yesterday, but is Jesse really replacing Bruno in the middle of the park? Unless you believe he should play out wide? He is not, and should not be a starter for United, he is good enough as an impact sub, but as I say he is not consistently first eleven quality for 40 games a season. He had a purple patch at West Ham and faded, once teams began to account for him. His level is not a PL winning team first eleven player.

Have to admit I groaned when he was subbed on but he did his job in spectacular fashion this time. Keep it up.

Was Phil Neville, Quinton fortune, David May etc etc all PL winning first eleven players? No.
You have a strange idea of what a squad player is. Not all are going to play 40 games a season
