Doesn't create enough, doesn't score enough, no more than a squad player. What more is there to say. Still he does have a massive twatter following and that's what counts.

Under a better manager he could be a valuable squad player just like he was under Mourinho and LVG.
Under Ole though we are so poor at attacking as a unit which makes Lingard look worse than he is .
We need a better starter though which is obvious.
He hasn’t done anything of note in over a year. What value does he add? How would he be valuable?

The whole thing about his home life is overblown and is used as an excuse to disguise his performances, the fact of the matter is he was gash long before his family issues (people seem to have forgotten that), and he will be gash long after as well.

He's just an awful football player, who does nothing but runs around, that's it, that's all he will ever be and will ever amount to, nowhere near good enough for any club with the aspirations we SHOULD be having, but we don't, so the reality actually is he's right up our alley at the moment.

He’s not good enough to be a squad player. He barely contributes anything when he starts always, so I don’t know why people think he’d suddenly be a decent squad option.

He doesn’t belong at the club. Needs to be binned. Do not care if he is best friends with Rashford or Pogba. Beckham was best friends with half our dressing room yet Fergie got rid.

A lot of misdirected anger. It wasn't a sitter and Lingard doesn't have much to do with United's woes.
It was the same last year with Matic. Lingard can be easily replaced, but nothing will get better.
Shaw will just receive the remaining abuse.
OMG, if not our number 10 who hasnt scored or assisted in over a year is not one of our woes, WTF is then?

The scariest part is I can preety much see him getting a contract extension. The club are just waiting for the right moment.Maybe one goal and they will announce it.

Yes and sold him cheap enough to say to any other player, if you are doing doing it, i dont care who you are.

Lingards contract is up in june 2021, so he should be released by then. Although i would love if Ole sold to make a point to all other players at the club.

If we wanted to sell Lingard and let other clubs know that he was for sale, how much do you think we would get for him?

I think three or four million, maybe five tops. Which is nothing in todays market.

Think about the salary we will save by selling him. 5m pounds per year. This is Pochs salary at spurs.

So why is Ole putting more pressure on him by constantly playing (read exposing) him? He needs some time off, not like disappearing from the team but more of playing fewer important games, especially ones in which the other team defends deep. I can understand giving him a couple of weeks but after three months of lack of productivity, it seems like flogging a dead horse. I would even suggest timely appearance as a right winger than in the no 10 where his failures get magnified
He can have as much time off from United at another club as far as I’m concerned. He doesn’t have the mentality or ability to be a United player.

I'd take a sandwich with a juice.

That's a reasonable opinion.

But I can't countenance personal abuse towards a United player who's shown commitment to the club.
Commitment?!? :lol::lol:

Where else will he earn 100k a week while being absolutely horrendous at his job? He is stealing a living from the club.

Lingard in general and this thread actually showed how brainwashed and deluded our fan base is. Everyone and their dogs could see what a horrendous footballer he was for this level, yet you could not say it on here without being labeled a hater or agenda driven.

I think there are people on this forum that don't know what words like commitment mean.

Ashley Young was praised on here recently for showing "loyalty" to the club. It's the same thing , nobody else will have them, certainly not clubs as big as Utd that pay them as well as we do.

You get praised for loyalty and commitment when you stay at the club despite knowing you could go to any other club in the world and make more money. Like you said Giggs and Scholes fit that description. Giggs in the 90s especially could have gone to Italy and doubled his money, at that point we couldn't compete with the big Italian clubs in terms of money.

Praising Lingard for commitment is just laughable

Nail on head.

Great example, is Ole saying something in the summer like "players like Phil Jones have been here so long" as though it's a fecking positive.

Yes, Ole, Phil Jones has been here soooo long and that's the reason he needs to go - not be given a new fecking 4yr contract!

Length of service does not equal 'a right to be there'. Quality of service does.

I also fear this. It wouldnt surprise me at all to see Lingard score his token Xmas period goal soon and the following day, boom, new contract announced - I think it might already be inked, to be honest. The club read social media and forums, they know that Lingard is seen as a huge problem and nowhere near good enough. They will announce it at the most acceptable time if possible.

Was just looking at his stats, how has he managed to play 190 games for this club with so little productivity. He is everything wrong with this club. He is extremely lucky to have made a career out of us. Had he scored yesterday he would have been acting all giddy and irritated everyone in social media. I always had an irritation towards Arsenal but I hate them more for making a star out of a nothing player.

He broke through at the most opportune time post SAF and has had a perfect storm of successive managers that have kept him on despite his mediocrity. Had he broke through at any other point in the last 30 years he wouldn't have lasted more than 2 years as a senior player at United. And probably not even that.

this issue will reveal what the club are actually about if they do give him a new deal. Almost like a line will be crossed I cant take the club seriously anymore

I think that line was probably crossed with the new 5 year deal for Jones at the start of this year.

I wouldn't call him the luckiest as that I would reserve that for the glass man Jones, but you are correct he is not far from that. He is living off that 2 months bliss period he had for us in December/January 2017/2018 and some goals in wembley. I think his last one year has been one of the worst I have seen a player play for such a long time and yet starting matches. He is also lucky that his replacements are past it Mata and a nothing player in Periera. I think he will torture for us another 6 months at least as I just cannot see us buying a number 10 unless Pogba can play his AM role or Ole switches the formation to 4-4-2.

Love any youth players coming through of course but he has been awful, only playing because Pogba was injured, even then I would have been using Gomes, something not right there, seen his statement about family issues but going publicly with it like that sounded like an excuse to buy time, everybody has their shit to deal with, you still have to do your job as best you can, not go through the motions and continuously make safe passes with the ball and lazily foul opposition without it.

Jones is indeed another beneficiary of the managerial turmoil at the club the last few years. But at least with Phil you can understand every new manager hoping he would overcome the injuries.

Lingard plays in a much more prominent position in the side though, you know the club has been struggling badly for a No10 to score and assist as little as he does and yet be kept around.

Its almost a chicken and egg situation, has he been able to stay around because we've been so poor or have we been so poor largely because players like Jesse have been kept around and given regular starts?

Does he bring anything positive to the team that would lead Ole to pick him?

Yea i agree. Under Ferguson he would have been released during the summer very quietly.

Regurgitating the same sh*t. This guy has no shame. Gets paid 5m per year to feck off 600m supporter around the world.

These days his contribution is a big fat zero.
He reminds me of an empty crisp packet blowing around in a gale
If a manager cannot see how ineffective he is in our team then he is part of the problem as well and I am getting a bit sick of Ole constantly talking up our players and about how no defender wants our forward line running at them when the hard facts tell us that the opposition would much rather face us than other teams at the moment.

If the fan base wasn't lapping it up from Ole every week, he probably wouldn't try it, so he's not that daft.

Disrespectful

Jesse has never performed consistently. And there's always an excuse why from him. Fact is he's just not good enough.

Disrespectful

His reaction afterwards that screamed shame proved in my eyes that he knows he fecked up big, big time with that considering the “pressure” Ole gave him.

However we know that Ole is too weak to cut him off or sell him. Im still furious on Lingard, can’t stand him.

We would be so lucky to get three or four million, his salary has no relationship with his lack of quality. I think we are upside down in terms of player value with him.

MUFC still uses him as a poster boy. He is exhibit number one of our failed management and lack of direction.

Looks like that Messi Lingod form was his peak.
Don't know if it was the Watford game where Rashford's goal bound shot managed to get blocked by Lingard's face but it kind of sums his performances up.
A hindrance to the team.
JLingz..pfft. His agent must be a magician to be able to get him in adverts with Van Dijk and AJ.... An if I get any Lynx for Christmas I'm throwing it
in the fireplace....ffs..... less is more... get lost!!

Agreed on all points.

Someone needs to show Ole this, the next time Ole thinks about putting him in the team.
Basically, Lingard is a passenger and when he is on the pitch, we are essentially playing with 10 men.
But then perhaps that is why Ole is what he is and that is why we are in 8th place.

I used to have hope for him about 4 years ago that he would turn into a player, but he took the route of fame and celebrity instead, which is extremely irritating without any productivity to back it up. Nowadays seeing him anywhere in the lineup you just know we will have a hindrance rather than a useful player in attack.

Not making excuses but it’s not that he chose fame.It may look like that but he’s had a hard year with his personal life. His mum being sick and him practically raising his siblings. Also he had his own little one.

Again these are excuses, if you aren’t all in then United isn’t for you. But no point making it out like he’s some fame hungry wannabe when it’s not all that.
