If we think of Manchester United as a club that should be fighting for PL and CL titles than he is not and never was a good enough player.
But let’s be fair he was not always as shite as he is atm.
He comes across as someone who is giving a lot about what others and especially the fans think of him and I can imagine that he knows that the majority of us are very skeptical and this gets into his mind.

He was always this shit imo, just he could hide a little better if the side played well or if they were drilled enough.

Now the team is mostly crap his performances have nowhere to hide.

I hope he will play against Brighton. We will win anyway so why not have some fun watching his first touch

Btw,question: is he the worst regular United player in PL era? Him or Bebe?

We won’t win with him starting. We need a working link between midfield and attack Lingard is never the answer. Don’t necessarily think Pereira or Mata will make it much better, at least they are better options.

People are underrating Potter and Brighton. One good performance against Partizan isn’t enough to convince me that we will win.

Man Utd 3:1 Brighton
I dont understand why Ole keeps bringing him on.. what a waste to give him 30 minutes or so every time. This game would have been ideal to give a young player a chance.

Lingard played mostly in attack so why didnt Ole just put on Greenwood. 30 minutes for Greenwood is so much better than waste 30 minutes on Lingard. Angel Gomes wasnt even in the team (injured?) but that is a better option too...

It annoys me that Ole keeps putting him on around the 60the minute but will only bring Greenwood on after the 85th minute.

Offers nothing even as a sub. I hope we are looking at offloading him in January either on loan or permanently. He's surely accustomed to playing a lot and he's not going to get it here.

This. It is also a big concern for me, as it appears Ole would love for Lingard to show just a bit of form (ie. play like an average footballer) so that he can stick him into the starting lineup again. Just sell Lingard.

Obviously lacking confidence and ole hoping a goal will change his mindset and we’ll have a decent player on our hands again.

Doesn’t want to start him but wants to help him end the goal draught and gain some confidence

I though he was OK, but nothing more. It's like he has given up and doesn't even want to prove himself anymore. No intensity to his game, I'd expect him to be sharp when coming on as a sub.

Didn't slow things down and it wasn't his fault that we can't finish off teams just yet.

Honestly, today he was decent in comparison to his earlier shenanigans.

I thought he was excellent when he came on, very involved, good runs, used it well when he got it. Most of you have worked yourselves into such a frenzy with him that even a grudging acknowledgment of a decent 20 minutes in beyond you. Fairly tragic stuff.

No way. He was alright but we had tired Brighton out and he could have been so much sharper in his pressing and usage of the ball. Again had moments where he was hiding from the ball, you can't have that when playing as a number 10.

I don't know when exactly he was supposed to be hiding there today. Thought he was constantly available. If Greenwood had had exactly the same cameo, would you have said he was hiding? Jesse can do no right. I get it.

There is almost a 10 year difference between Lingard and Greenwood. The former should be one of the senior players by now, the latter is having his debut season in the first team squad.

He was fine and did nothing wrong. Still didnt do anything special though.

However it was against a tired and bad Brighton. That should be easy to play against so a perfect moment to bring on a young player to play against some real opponents (experienced and adult pro players). Instead Ole brings on a 27 year old England international because that player cant score or assist and needs those 'easy' minutes for his confidence?

It is just so annoying... im really at the point where it frustrates me to see him get on the pitch.

He’s a nothing player, we shouldn’t waste minutes on him. He offers nothing, we should be looking for someone stupid enough to take it away from us.

This, I am usually very harsh on him, but I feel we did get better once he came on. Or it could just be the fact that we did not have Periera anymore to hog the ball, and could move it quicker as Lingard did not hold on to the ball at all.

He is not going to turn around the game and for games like today minutes are wasted on him. Rather give minutes to youngsters like greenwood or Gomes/chong

Totally agree, he’s just a waste of time and wages.

Well I think that's nonsense. The kids are getting minutes all over the shop. Lingard is an experienced international going through a bad spell. We've a threadbare squad. What are we supposed to do? Bin him? He got 20 minutes and played well. No need for the weeping and gnashing of teeth.

He was ok, he made a decent run from which he was brought down on the edge of the box. Looks off the pace, which is perhaps understandable given the lack of minutes he's had recently, but he's got it all to do to get back in the first team picture and it may be beyond him.

A bad spell... that must be the understatement of the year. In my opinion there shouldnt be any playtime wasted on him.

Fans dont want to see a attacking player who doesnt score or assist and it takes away minutes from other players. So yes, hopefully he will be binned sooner than later.

Excellent? Really?

Pointless bringing him on when we're winning comfortably and pointless bringing him on when we're chasing a goal. Just get rid of him, he's awful.

Is there any way to see the minutes per goal for the whole team when he is playing vs when he isn’t playing?

Would much rather start him at the 10 when Pogba is out over Pereira or Mata tbh.

Not for me. Pereira's three years Lingard's junior and is starting to show his usefulness in an advanced attacking role. After giving Lingard chance after chance it's now time for him to show Ole he's a worth a damn from the bench and in the lesser games that are left this season.

Brighton ran out of steam about the time he came on, still he added nothing. There was space everywhere but he didn't use it.

How he failed to orientate himself and not pass the ball to James when he won the free kick just outside the box is baffling.

Why? Pereira might actually score or try something with some risk? What does Lingard offer when he starts?
Pereira is seriously lacking in quality IMO. Lingard once he gets some confidence back is a lot better as a 10 for me. Hes nothing special, but a lot falls apart around Pereira and hes a bit out of his depth.

This season in the PL, when Lingard is on the pitch, 6 goals scored in 400 mins. Without, 10 goals in 680 mins.

Other competitions, Europa League, Lingard on the pitch, 2 goals scored in 140 mins. Without, 3 goals in 220 mins. Carabao Cup, Lingard on the pitch 2 goals in 152 mins. Without, 1 goal in 28 mins.

Overall, almost nothing in it.

Last season, PL, Lingard on the pitch 35 goals in 1668 mins. Without, 30 goals in 1752 mins. In the CL we only scored 1 goal in 296 mins when Lingard was on the pitch, compared to 9 goals in 604 mins without him. There was a similar pattern in the CL the previous season. 2 goals in 243 mins when Jesse was on the pitch, compared to 11 goals in 477 mins without him. In the PL that season we seemed to score at a higher rate when Jesse featured. 41 goals in 1822 mins, compared to 27 in 1598 mins.

Pereira is seriously lacking in quality IMO. Lingard once he gets some confidence back is a lot better as a 10 for me. Hes nothing special, but a lot falls apart around Pereira and hes a bit out of his depth.

Clearly Jesse's peak level is better than Pereira's current level as a no 10. However, Pereira might adapt to the role, given an extended run, as he is younger, has limited PL experience and is relatively new to the position at this level. In recent games he has shown some encouraging signs, such as finding space between the lines and immediately controlling the ball in a way that allows him to move forwards (contrast with Lingard and Mata this season, so often controlling the ball then passing backwards, or even first time return passes). Andreas does tend to assume he has more time on the ball than opposing players actually allow him, leading to getting dispossessed a lot. And the final through-ball isn't there yet.

As for Lingard, he is fortunate that Solskjaer still believes in him. His form since the World Cup has been unacceptable. Perhaps he will rediscover his form before it is too late for him. There have been some games this season in which he has sprinted into the penalty area but the ball hasn't found him. If he keeps making those runs, sooner or later, he will get big chances to score. As things stand, I would imagine that a glamorous no 10 will be near the top of the club's shopping list in the summer.

Pereira starting, with Lingard getting mins as a sub, seems a reasonable balance for the current situation.

Becuase for Ole he is sadly an important player he's dying to get back in form. I'd rather give these minutes to Greenwood, Gomes and Garner.

Everyone was on song today but this guy still managed to unimpress. How shit can one get?

For this season (mins played, goals scored while on the pitch, goals scored while off):

PL
Chelsea 4-0 (86 mins, 4 goals on, 0 goals off).
Wolves 1-1 (81 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Palace 1-2 (56 mins, 0 goals on, 1 goal off)
Southampton 1-1 (22 mins, 0 goals on, 1 goal off)
Leicester 1-0 (0 mins, 1 goal off)
West Ham 0-2 (29 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Arsenal 1-1 (74 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Newcastle 0-1 (0 mins, 0 goals off)
Liverpool 1-1 (0 mins, 1 goal off)
Norwich 3-1 (10 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)
Bournemouth 0-1 (22 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Brighton 3-1 (20 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)

Total: 400 mins played, 680 mins not played, 6 goals on, 10 goals off
Goal every 67 mins while playing, every 68 mins while not playing

League Cup
Rochdale 1-1 (85 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Chelsea 2-1 (67 mins, 1 goal on, 1 goal off)

Total: 152 mins played, 28 mins not played, 2 goals on, 1 goal off
Goal every 76 mins while playing, every 28 mins while not playing

Europa League
Astana 1-0 (22 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
AZ 0-0 (13 mins, 0 goals on, 0 goals off)
Partizan 1-0 (90 mins, 1 goal on, 0 goals off)
Partizan 3-0 (15 mins, 0 goals on, 3 goals off)

Total: 140 mins played, 220 mins not played, 2 goals on, 3 goals off
Goal every 70 mins while playing, every 73 mins while not playing

Grand total: 692 minutes played, 928 minutes not played, 10 goals on, 14 goals off
Goal every 69 minutes while playing, every 66 minutes while not playing

It's very marginal, though I imagine that 4-0 v Chelsea heavily skews things. Not to mention he only contributed to 1 assist against Rochdale anyway.

He was fine when he came on yesterday. In general he is struggling badly though.

If we can get any sort of decent money (Surely 20 million for an England international?) then we should take it.

The worst thing about this slump, is that the media have now also picked up on it. Every time he get's near the goal they mention his drought and that he never even has shots on target. I fear that when he eventually does score a goal, it will be such a carnival / mocking celebration it may actually do more harm than good to his confidence. Very tough to come back from form like this.

I can't think of a Utd player having a worse run of form over such a long period, and still playing regular football? Rooney was horrible in his final days but even he popped up with some goals and assists just from having a football brain / mentality to stand in the right places.

He took his eye of the ball and got too gassed. Thought he was already a superstar player because he was one of Jose’s favourites.

Jesse isn’t a bad player imo, better than Peirra for sure...you dont get to be an England regular if your crap. his confidence has been shot this season. No idea why but it has ruined his form, now so many haters are making it almost impossible for him to get it back. The kid is united through and through and has scored some great goals for us, i always thought his engine, passing shooting and link up play was excellent until this year. What happened to the guy who scored the winner in the FA cup final.
