I always ask myself this question: if he was playing on any other team would he have been offered 125k or whatever he is on presently.

In China maybe. In another Premier League team? more chance of Evel Knievel went through Ethiopia with a pasty on his head.

We get it. You hate him.

Jesse does not help himself though does he? One thing is being shit, ok, we have quite a few shit players, but when you dont even look arsed after not having a single goal/assist in a full year and then you have the whole social media/clothing brand noise outside of the pitch...it really does not reflect well on him or his professionalism

Acting like the dogs bollocks when you cant back it up at all on the pitch pisses off fans and understandably so

I don't understand what's happened to him. On his day hes a pretty good player but he has fallen off a cliff the last year, hes barely PL quality at the moment.

To be fair we have seen him perform better than this. It's just not a performance that's worth waiting through months of absolute garbage, plus when he is playing better it's usually for a few games at most anyway.

12 games left this year. Will he score in any of those games? Or will he go all of 2019 with just 1 goal, 0 of which are in the PL? Place your bets!

Perhaps the club could get the video together of the matches he scored 17 goals in one season to sit down and watch with him to see what he was doing back then, jog his memory a bit.

To be fair though, his typical season of 4-5 goals is not good enough and he's done zero for close to a year now. We should be looking at a new signing.

He has never scored anywhere near 17 in a season, nor will he ever.

Said 3 years he was crap, and is as much true today as it was back then. In fact he is actually worse now, because he is that arrogant he doesn't even run around like a headless chicken anymore.

Bruno Fernandes scored again tonight, and that is the calibre we need at #10, not this joker or Pereira.

We have too many players that need to be moved on and I'm finally thinking Ole is getting the message that Lingard is one of them. He is only making the bench now and that is only due to the lack of good players we have. Periera, (another generally poor player) and the evergreen Mata are played in front of him now, and Lingard was a first team player at the start of the season. The fact that he hasnt contributed to any goal, either scoring or an assist in 2019 is a disgrace for the position he plays when picked.

Happy to see him back, I hope he can prove himself to be of use as he's surely running out of chances. I appreciate many fans have run out of patience with giving him a reported £100k a week for very little in return but as I'm sure he isn't going in January I want him to have a good season from here and assess his future in summer.

I think that's very possible. He'll get the rest of this season to force himself back into United's plans but at the moment he should be heading out.

If we think of Manchester United as a club that should be fighting for PL and CL titles than he is not and never was a good enough player.
But let’s be fair he was not always as shite as he is atm.
He comes across as someone who is giving a lot about what others and especially the fans think of him and I can imagine that he knows that the majority of us are very skeptical and this gets into his mind.

17 in a season? He only scored 17 league goals for us in total. In almost a decade of football.

So dont follow him...? What he does on his free time is harmless. Yes its lame, but why care what he does as long as its not political or harming anyone. He also does alot of charity, but he is shit, so we should hate him instead.

And of course he wants to score or have an assists, but he is so low on confidence that he rather do it safe. Do you honestly think he isnt arsed??

This thread is a joke. Yes he isnt good enough, but the words being used against him on a personal level is childish and embarrassing. Grow the F up guys

Exactly this. He puts up stuff on his Snapchat of the game of him celebrating and just having the ball. It boils my blood , you haven’t had an assist since January. It’s embarassing

If you include internationals I think he did in 2017/18.

Been said already but he doesn't look interested in playing for us, puts in no effort. Wants to be a football superstar without any of the hard work. If we have any sense we'll replace him in January, at least he finally looks like he's lost his first team place, although that took a concerning amount of time too.

So don't follow the thread then? What people write in here is irrelevant to the form and behaviour of Lingard. It's people generally saying what they see...if you want piety and positivity, I'd suggest the Cafe, especially the Lingard thread, isn't the best place to look at the minute.

I'm sensing people don't rate him which is weird because on form he's a bloody good footballer.
He's never been the best at anything. Going by attributes he's pretty mediocre, but there was that period a few seasons ago that he put in incredible effort and played with intelligence. He added something to the team.

Recently he hasn't been putting in any effort. There's not much thought in his play. Just zombie football, a body on the pitch.

Maybe, like others have suggested, his confidence is shot. Maybe his mind is elsewhere, with his business ventures and social media presence or maybe he just got too comfortable, and felt with the lack of quality in the side his position is safe with minimal effort. Who knows, but the obvious thing is on current form he's not even good enough for the bench.

He's playing like a player who has been informed he will be sold. His performances for the last while have been nothing short of embarrassing.
When a player is told he'll be sold he should be putting in more effort to either change the managers mind or attract suitors. I think it's more likely a case of a player getting too comfortable.

He's the definition of a player that thinks they've made it, and are happy just being at a big club.

Ever since we gave him his new fat contract he's been awful. He's lost all desire he once had. The club have built him up a bit too much as a "local legend" unfortunately. People like Rio blowing smoke up his ass talking about his world class movement, but never criticising his lack of output or impact on a match.

If the club have any ambition we should be shifting out Lingard and Mata this summer and buying 2 proper number 10's.

I agree they should be, but he strikes me as the type of player that when the going gets tough, he can't be bothered.

I sometimes wonder what people like Rio are actually doing, there has to be some kind of financial reward or similar for them to be coming out with things like this. Lingard looks like a mediocre Championship player 9/10 performances, there isn't a single thing about him that anyone could perceive as being close to world class so for a seasoned pro to be saying this is bizarre - I honestly think some of these pundits/legends are on the payroll. Paid to just put a positive spin on United in general and certain players that the club wants to receive praise.

I’ve never liked Lingard as he’s an irritating man-child, but agree with the sentiment that he isn’t as bad as he’s showing right now, just bereft of confidence.

Feel a bit sorry for him now as even though he’s undeniably annoying, he actually seems to be a very nice person off the pitch, with the work he does in the community.

Please no replies of “I don’t feel bloody sorry for him with the wages he’s on” etc. No matter how much you earn, a large majority of footballers aren’t going to be content with playing as badly as he is right now.

Plus being inundated with abuse on social media (though he brings some of this upon himself), won’t be pleasant for anyone.

When you see Mata running at his full speed and trying to tackle the opposition( Yeah I know even at full speed he is very slow) then see the Beans man just jogging after the opposing players all the time it does get to you that he is taking the piss.

Its a thread about his performances, not his social behaviour. His instagram or whatever shouldnt apply in this thread. Or your view of him as a person.

Im here to discuss his performances, which is hard to do, when all of the posts is either:

' He's a cnut '
' He's shit'
' He looks like a 40yo '

Childish and makes this thread very low quality

Every time I have to click the 'show ignored content' feature in this thread, I know exactly who it'll show up.

That's not the point. I dont care what he does on social media, and its not like i lie awake at night and bed and is seething while i think about Lingaards stupid videos. In fact i think its nice that footballers have a bit of personality, not everyone has to be A.Valencia or Paul Scholes, but i just cant shake the feeling that he thinks hes "made it" and that in turn has lead him to not work as hard as he should have done which again leads to him severely under performing

I dont really know, but if Fergie was still managing us i dont think he would stand for any of this.

I hope he will play against Brighton. We will win anyway so why not have some fun watching his first touch

Btw,question: is he the worst regular United player in PL era? Him or Bebe?

Savage (of all people) made a comment that is spot on. His first touch is almost always to lay the ball off, it's hardly ever to turn a player or move the ball forwards.

Yeah, I was surprised he picked up on it but it's been the biggest issue with Lingard in the #10 role, and in truth he's not really a #10, he's more of a SS as his running off the ball is better than his work with it.
