I can’t believe the negativity - today has been one of the best performances we have seen in 5 years. Lingard scores twice, and people are still criticising him - some of you are honestly beyond help. If you can’t enjoy the match today without criticising our own players, then you might as well stop watching.

He's actually in good form again. Scored vs Arsenal, scored vs Liverpool and two more today. Long may it continue

Would any of the big clubs want Vasquez; Perisic; Rafinha; Mane; Mahrez. Your statement is just wierd. You do know Messi Lingod is just light banter. No one is claiming he’s the new Ryan Giggs.
The thing is that it is not light banter with his fanboys yourself included. You guys pop up everytime he has a great game telling everyone to eat their words. Yet where are you when he goes 9 months without a goal? He was fantastic today. Maybe the best on the pitch. I just hope he can add some consistency to his game because his latest goal drought was just not acceptable for a guy who gets starters minutes and plays in advanced positions. I love his work rate. I love his attitude. The other players seem to love him. He's a youth product. He's always willing to make runs where others are sometimes lazy. There are many things to like about this guy. But he has to stop going months on end with no end product.

So one game against Cardiff and he's world class? Stinking up the place in 15/16, 16/17, 17/18 and at the start of 18/19, but who cares, right?
I stand by what I said, he'll never be good enough to be a starter in this club. If he keeps perfoming like today, I won't have a problem with him as a squad player, we'll see.

Scores two goals against Cardiff.... Best player in the world

Who said this? You'll both be eating humble pie along with the other band of haters led by @el3mel . Lingod has 4 goals and 1 assist in his last few games, long may it continue! There's every reason to be positive now that we have a manager who plays attacking football and will bring the best out of Lingard. Cue the retort about his purple patch and performing in streaks, stinking up the place with his dancing and his clothing line business, being everything that's wrong about the club etc

Very good performance, him, Rashford and Martial were electric today as a front 3, so much movement, and his finish for his 2nd was great, he can take over pens as well as Pogba's run up makes me nervous.

It's as clear as day that this fella is a great squad player. People get carried away with themselves. SAF had a number of great teams, they weren't all Beckham, Giggs and Ronaldo level players. These teams were built on players like John O'Shea, Park Ji Sung and Wes Brown.

Lingard is exactly this type of player, and I for one am delighted to have someone like him in the squad.

Agreed, I think if we are to become a PL and CL contender he's a squad player, but he's a good squad player to have and will be a continued valuable asset.

If Lingard was so good as many here proclaims then he would not have been so poor for so long as good players will perform regularly even if their manager isn´t doing a very good job because they have the quality.

Well when you consider the fact Hazard didn't even score a single goal at Chelsea for 356 days (thats 11.7 months) when him and his teammates rebelled against Mourinho your argument falls flat. What about Mahrez and Vardy when their form went to shit the season after their PL triumph? They were accused of downing tools that season under Ranieri and even under his successor Craig Shakespere. It happened again to Chelsea under Conte when many of their best players refused to play for him the season after they won their last title.

He still managed to feck up our attacks couple of times, yet scored two goals. I’m yet to see his second but I feel we need better. He is not good enough footballer to play regularly for Manchester United.

Decent back up for Sanchez if Sanchez can find form, however Lingard was key today, his movement (and pressing) was really good. Took his second goal well.

He was the worse of the lot today for me. He scored two goals in spite of that but that shouldn't distract us from the fact that he's not good enough to start for this team.

He and Herrera are in the same category for me. Good squad players who I'd rather have than not have, but not a definite week-in-week-out starter for Manchester United.

You are like a broken record. I hope someone buys you some threads from his clothing line for Christmas.

Excellent finish for his second goal BTW.

Any explanation for penalty? I thought that Pogba and Martial are penalty takers.

After having protected him many times here and gotten stick for it I feel a bit proud for my boy JLingz..

Looked like he grabbed it as he was the one who earned it. If he’s confident to take it, then no issue from me. Pogba has missed a couple this season.
I hate that regime. Coach must pick penalty takers and they must shoot in that order. Or you will end up with Pogba/Alexis situation when they were arguing about penalty against Leicester.

He played ok today so that means he’s actually never had a bad game in his life ever, and anybody who criticised him once upon a time now has egg on their face. Honestly the state of this place, christ.

Good name and shame. Especially @el3mel and @.Rossi.

Sure.. great name and shame. One good game against a relegation side and all his terrible games should be forgotten! While we are at it lets also forget the first 45 minutes in which he ruined multiple promising attack opportunities.

Lets hope he keeps playing like he did today but all criticism he got in the past was well deserved. Quoting all negative posts after one good game is just a bit childish imo.

Spot on.

I don't have any particular love for Lingard even though he is an academy graduate. He is not a young player anymore, he is about the age that Park was when he first came to the club. I would say some people overrate Lingard based on the popularity factor and by being "online" a lot, but you got the guys ready to hate on him and everyone who overrates him here too. It is pathetic. Lingard is a squad player who can perform to an insanely good level when he is on form. He has as much of a chance to improve as any other player in the squad, and he is an important member of the United-squad, like Park, but not necessarily a world-beater by merit. So please enjoy yourself haters instead of getting upset one of our best players do well

If we compare him to other squad players during Fergies time where does he stand?
Players of the ilk of Blomqvuist, Fortune, Solskjaer, Sheringham or Park who epitomised the squad players needed to win leagues year after year? Is he better or worse than them.
Who can we compare him to if not them?
He hasn't shown anything to me that he should be a first team Utd player. And he probably should have by now.
And I am still on the fence on whether he should be a squad player

Best game

Mane and Mahrez would walk into most sides. I like Lingard but they are both levels above him as a wide option.

Guilty as charged. Hi haters! I made that post to respond to the largely over the top criticisms posted in this thread. He does represent EVERYTHING that's bad about this club after all don't you know? He was arguably MOTM, why wouldn't I name and shame those who decry his presence in this team at almost EVERY opportunity?

Christ, we score 5 for the first time after three permanent managers failed to do so, and the caf still bores me to tears.

So’s backing a former ‘twat’ calling him crap because he decided to bring out a clothing line. Which had nothing to do with his performance on the pitch.

I’d called that just as if not more childish.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are not signing those two players and that’s what I would call interest form a big club. So my point stands unless you think those players are the type of signings those clubs would be happy with?

This thread is such a brilliant read. Some people simply just have a agenda against him, no matter how well he plays.

Don't bother replaying mate. I gave him the praise he deserved and that's about it. Anyone trying to prove a point quoting other posts because he scored twice against Bayern Cardiff is just making fun of himself.

Only one issue with Lingard playing and that's he doesn't give us natural width.

He clogs up the middle a bit too much for my liking and he doesn't have the quality in those tight spaces to make it worth sacrificing for.

As others have said, hopefully someone like Sanchez can get some game to finally show his worth.

Sanchez whilst being a more talented player is guilty of many of the this Jesse is being accused of. Plus he appears to wants to play on the left.

Some agendas are bigger than others mate

Why agenda ? Why simply aknowledging his level and that he's not good enough as a starter ? I can do with him as a squad option playing these kind of matches and I gave him the credit. Some here make it pretty hard to come to a thread and make your honest opinion on a player because you'll be labeled agenda driven or a hater. If everyone just post their opinion and disucss it and move on it will be better.

Will they enjoy it if I quote their posts all together when he performs crap in an upcoming game and labeled them fanboys ?

This is why I don't consider him a first team player. He doesn't bring width. Not that it matters if he isn't going to play more as a natural winger, because I do think he have the quality in tight spaces most of the time and he does offer something in terms of pressing, movement off the ball, work-rate and finishing. His ability isn't as patient as Mata and he is a totally different player to say Silva, but he does have his qualities in central offensive positions. At least for now

If everyone just post their opinion and disucss it and move on it will be better.
I agree with that. Was just saying.

That thread title :D his Lingod form is way better than this performance.
The 2 goals deceiving his overall performances?

Anyway,
Fantastic game this time, after a looong time, well done, more please.

Performance 8/10
Celebration 4/10

Exactly, he scored the 4th and 5th goals, at that time we already won the game and Cardiff didn't care about defensive as much as offensive.

Where are all that amazing movement, great passing, chance creating on the first half while we actually need? I remember he broke some of our opportunities by his poor touches or wrong pass.

I still think he's not good enough to play in Manchester City or Liverpool team, hope he can prove me wrong.
