He has surprised my by how well he is playing. This is really strange. I had never expected him to play so well, especially in the tough part of the season. Just proves anything is possible in football.

What really impressed me yesterday was everytime he got the ball he turned the defender and carried it forward. How many times have we seen a United player receive the ball then play it backwards. So refreshing to see and actually reminded me of the way Sanchez plays!

Sorry lads, just stuck him in my fantasy team. Expect his form to drop off dramatically.

He doesn’t score many tap-ins, does he? His highlight reel of this season is incredible. If he was playing for a continental side, linked to us in the rumour market, and someone showed a video of his goals this season everyone would be wetting their pants and nobody would blink an eye at a 20m+ fee. Which also puts all the drama about his 100k/week salary into context.

I doubt the thread will be same if he doesn't perform two games in a row. Reminds me when Fellaini was scoring and everyone went apologizing to the big man. Give the players respect even when out of form. Football fans are fickle.
Lingard is capable of what he's doing. I'm not surprised. He's always been a big game player, doesn't that tell you he's mentally strong? Why does everyone seems surprised?

You speek sense? No - you just laugh at the people who tell you the likes of Lingard are going to be special players for United in the future especially at AM only to be bitten back in the arse & pretend like nothing happened acting like you did no wrong, like what you say & what you see is just as laughable as what I say. Absolutely mental or dillusional.

@Ban + @Robbie Boy keep laughing at me & being the best of friends. Next guy to take step up is Rashford & martial as CF's.

How are schweignsteiger, schnderlin and depay doing? I think we will go a step up once mourinho starts playing them in the first team as lvg dreamed.

Well you said that he didn’t have the ability to be the very best so it’s ok to ask in comparison to who? You’re kind of changing your story now by saying he doesn’t have as much technical ability as martial. Fine but you could say the same about 95% of the players in the league.
You’re not the first to insinuate that Lingard is not technical or has limited skills. It irks me that yous can’t quite get rid of your prejudices towards him and open your eyes fully

No, I don't think he is not technical or has limited skills. He just doesn't have the natural ability of a Martial or a Pogba. He applies what he does have well and if he keeps progressing he can be a great player for us.

Anyone with eyes can see this, I don't know why it has to be argued over.

He actually has a good football brain, which makes him the complete opposite to Mhkitaryan. Loving his form.

He is like a copy of Muller. Always in the right place at the right time. He may not be the most technical player but he uses his brain and right now he is one of the first names on the teamsheet. Great work this season.

Never mind his shooting and goals, his off the ball movement and understanding is arguably the best at the club and has been even when things weren't going well for him.

I don't know if that's just innate and raw instinct or whether he goes and analyses his previous games, but it is something he has in spades and doesn't seem to have a cap for.

Not sure if the rest of his game can catch up with the picture he has of the pitch, but if it does we're talking about a player literally worth £60m+.

He needs games in that position to develop further but at the same time it will take serious stones from Jose to persevere when a possible quick fix and ready-made player or two such as Özil and Fekir are gettable.

I've never really thought of Lingard in terms of maxxed potential, but his recent form does make you wonder what should be done in the mid and longer term.

If he plays out the remainder of the season maintaining his current standards I'm sure there'll be some consternation as to what happens with him in the 18/19 season.

Weird that he may take the mantel many expected Morisson to have here.

I've never rated or hated him, I still think he can go missing a lot but then out of nowhere smacks us a world class performance. His current form thou

If you had told me at the beginning of the season that Lingard would transform into a good footballer, i'd have had a chuckle... if you had told me he'd transform into an excellent footballer that will be one of our best players for an extended period of the season, I'd probably check you into the mental asylum...

What a turnaround... hats off to Lingard.

If Jesse continues on this run of form I could see him winning the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award.

Fantastic to see an academy grad grab his opportunity with both hands and become a real threat for us. Lampard was 26 when Jose started managing him and his development curve shot upwards after that point. If Lingard could undergo a similar development curve he could turn into a major force for us. Not saying it will happen but it could. At 24 Jesse's got two years on deflectionado too!

Very true, his scout nation video would have muppets hopeful. All this despite a press campaign last season and at the end of LVG's insisting our academy was crap. Lingard and Rashford seem to suggest otherwise.

Really showing the form and application that made us so excited when we first saw him in the youth team

I had a colleague who was a Brighton fan and used to rave about him during his time there. With consistent games hopefully he can continue these games.

People might question overall team play and his ability to improve top players furthrr but for me Jose has had the SAF like skill of improving the 'less talented'players.

He's not less talented than anyone. i saw him playing when he was younger and he used to do what we're seeing now, for fun.

You don't score goals like that without having the skill and technique

Hold on a minute. Questions have been justifiably asked of Lindgard for a while now. He is 25 now, not some young guy breaking into the team. It's about time he begun to apply his talent on a more consistent basis. He has delivered some great moments for us, and now we need him to be more consistent. Does he want to be a fixture on the team sheet? Does he want to be a starter for England? A likeable character indeed, but he needs to retain this level of performance and really drive the team. He will have the whole fan base behind him too, so could be marvelously influential.

I want him to get those 'ugly' goals too. Lindgard should be thinking of hitting minimum 12 Prem goals per season. I'm pleased for him, and it's great to see him playing like this. But now I want some consistency.

He was always busy but had no end product, I guess that was because he was always played on the wing, but he was never really a winger. Just because he can run fast doesn't mean you can be good as a wide man.

Since he's played as the AMC he's been brilliant, his goal tally speaks for that, and he could + should have had another 2/3 goals quite comfortably on top of that recently.

Teams probably aren't paying him enough respect yet, still double marking Martial + Lukaku and leaving him a bit more open than they should. He's on a hot streak right now and I hope that once it settles down a bit he doesn't regress back to how it was before.

Does this guy score shit goals?

His first vs WBA, the stunner against Chelsea, the FA cup final, Community Shield, Boro, Watford, Burnley, even the header against Swansea. Jesse Lingard, scorer of great goals.

How good do people think he is? Like compared to other, perhaps more glamorous, names playing in similar roles for other teams?

As good as Ozil for example?
Sterling?

Surely nowhere near the likes of Hazard, Coutinho, Salah, Sanchez right?

If he adds the numbers, you cant argue. He wasnt great in tht department before this season, lacking end product. Now he made a massive improvement. Only needs to keep the consistency

Ok, so the important question right now is which of the goals he's scored this season is better, last one against Everton or the one against Watford?

For him to even begin to be compared to anyone quoted above, he needs to show consistency. We do not know if this is just a purple patch or not, hence it's too soon to start with this.

On current form, however, he's as good as anyone. There's a reason the thread has been renamed, after all!

He is quickly becoming my favourite player.
He absolutely wants to score at every opportunity. No back/side passing. Just straight towards goal.
And lets not forget that he is also capable of taking the ball from the half way line and performing a Messi like run towards goal and then scoring. That goal a few weeks ago, will probably be my goal of the season.
He plays with a lot of passion and uses what little power he has to full effect.

Against Everton, Pogba was the official MOTM, but for me, Lingard was the MOTM.

Both were World class and would not be out of place in a CL final.
The one against Everton was great.
The one against Watford was simply Messi-esque.

He'll continue to be this good in terms of his general play, because to be honest he has been for years. I don't think this goalscoring purple patch will necessarily last, certainly not beyond the season. Reminds me a bit of Ramsey's 2013/14. Except that Ramsey's shite obviously.

There is only so long people can continue to say he's limited or doesn't have the technical ability.

My main gripe was he never affected the game in any way and was usually a bystander. He's been positive and great recently.

Same here. The goal against Watford was a case of pure magic. Unforgettable stuff.

He's Jesse Lingard and that should be enough as long as he keeps producing well for Manchester United.

Comparing players is absurd, I've seen something similar when Pedro was slamming the door at Barcelona with People comparing him to guys like Ribery, Ozil and such, if you have a guy that gives 100% every game, wins games and everything seems to work, why look at other teams to compare him with other players? just enjoy him.

Glad he's playing well, he seems to have found his niche. He will never have the ability of the very best but he's got the workrate to make up for it, he can be that player who chases everything down and gets involved in everything we do. Hope he continues this good form.
Never and always are two words with the capacity to bite back
