Had a good game, made some decent runs with the ball and was alweays picking up good positions around the other attackers to offer a link. This is what we need from him as a squad players, to come in and dominate these kind of games so we don't have to put a Lukaku or Mkhitaryan on to salvage things.

I said about a month back that Chamberlain was basically a Lingard. Take that back. Lingard offers more... and hasnt has as much experience at the top level as Oxlade Chamberlain.. he'll get better.

Excellent performance from him, arguably his best in the first team. Hope it pushes him on to impose himself more in meaningful games. That being said I don't want him starting on Saturday now, which wouldn't shock me.

Superb, I think he showed some real development and maturity. If he can raise from here then he can garner a starting berth in no time.

Nothing he does versus Burton raises my hope for Lingard. Anytime I've seen him in the premier league he has looked meh. I'll support him when he is playing but otherwise I hope we replace him. And before anyone jumps in I liked Fletch, welbeck and a lots of academy products just feel the same way about Lingard as I did about Cleverley being very average.

It was Burton, but he was impressive nevertheless. That superb assist probably helped him to grow in confidence and didn't look back.

felt he changed the game against Everton, adding energy to a limp second half performance

was super last night and a wonderful touch to Rashford for his first

next target is to put in performances like that in the league

He linked up well with Rashford and Martial, overall it was a very good performance.

The game against Everton wasn't changed until Herrera came on and we played with more balance in midfield.

Some posters have said he's a Championship player. Looks like he'd be rocking it if he were.

Well let's not jump the gun here. He has excellent last night, but that was one game. Let him do this a on a more regular basis before we start with the told you so's.

Very good performance. Hope can replicate this performance in the PL. Think he is in good form but he is simply not getting minutes because there are better players in front of him like Mikhi and Mata. Will have to remain satisfied with playing in the League Cup and the early CL fixtures.

ALways feels to me like he plays a bit better when he's more up in the forward positions rather than the wings. His movement, and clever touches seems to bring out the best in rashford and vice versa.

Well done Jesse

I much prefer the Jesse Lingard we've seen so far this season, coming on late on in games to inject some pace and energy and starting in league cup games, than the one we saw starting almost every week last season.

This is the best use of him, Super Cup aside he's been good so far. It's nice to see.

See, no one has a problem with him being here if he is used in that way. It's when he starts and nulifies our attack is when people get annoyed. We have seen lately how much better we play without him starting.

They aren't facts though are they. Doesn't say how often he decided to kick the ball into oblivion. His pass completion may look alright but a lot of that will be simple passing.

Maybe some kid from Asia will make a Lingard all touches YouTube video tomorrow, then maybe I can show my point a bit more rather than linking some stats bollocks

Why does it have to be some kid from Asia, what are you, an 80 year old man? Get off my lawn! Some kid from Asia who knows how to do those technomabob things with the youtubes!

Oh priceless, I saw the follow up. Typical, I have Asians in my family, my sneaky insult is actually praise because I know how smart them asians are with the technologies!!!

I don't understand the question. PM me with any questions, otherwise stay on topic

The past is the past & it is what it is - as long as he produces the way he has so far this season whether that be off the bench or an occasional start; I don't see what the complaining is about.

People act like he is vastly incapable - he is more than good enough to do a job when the manager wants something done from him.

Couldn't care less about what he has in his pocket.

People say he is good squad player, and squad player should be used like this.
If he is playing regular game then it means, our first team player are not playing well or injured or Jose think he can do that job.
You can't blame him for that. If you want to blame than blame Jose, He select line up not Lingard.

Well he clearly isn't a championship footballer. That was clear even before the Burton game.

Lingard will get better with age; a crafty player with limitations but plays with football intelligence we don't value here in England.
England will do well to use him; Those flicks and turns aren't for a highlights reel and shows how those yards and inches can make all the difference.

I'm not blaming Lingard. If me or you were given chance to start for United of course we would do it. So in that aspect I do blame Jose when he starts him and we play poor (which I have plenty of times in the past). However it is a proven fact we play much better when Lingard doesn't start so i'd rather it stayed that way in important league games, with him coming on as a sub and starter for cup games etc.

I don't think anything is clear with him yet. His performance against Burton was encouraging but he has been poor for the majority of his first team career at the club you cannot forget that. IF he continues to play in the same way as against Burton then it will be clear he is good enough for us and the upper echo of the Premier League, But there has been games he has played in which he hasn't even looked Premier League standard. So while I agree that he probably isn't Championship Level only, he still has alot to prove IMO. You also have to remember he is 25 in 2 months, so he isn't this young player he often gets made out to be.

No it is very clear he is not a championship footballer. It's not even up for debate.

The same was said about Gibson, Cleverley, Eagles and Chadwick and many more to be fair. He needs to get better and do it more consistently to challenge for a first team spot but I suspect he knows not to rock the boat and accept a squad player role at a top club than risk slipping down the leagues.

The fact you say 'it is not up for debate' and he is 'very clearly' not a Championship player, You make out as if we are talking about Rashford here. Time will tell with Lingard, but let's be honest it wouldn't shock most people if he ended up dropping down in a few years, same as it wouldn't shock people if he stayed here his full career as a squad player.

Gibson was a premier league player until his injuries at Everton. Cleverley still plays in the premier league. Lingard has 50 PL appearances for Man United. Wiki says Eagles has 6, Chadwick had 25.

I say that because he clearly isn't a Championship footballer.

But none of them are Manchester United class and are probably just as equally at home in the championship.

The argument is not if Lingard is Manchester United class or not. I'm not even going to entertain the idea that Lingard might be a championship footballer, I'll just leave it here.

Why do people keep harping on about him getting better with age? He'll be 25 in three months. Players in his position are usually already very close to their peak at that age, so it's very much possible that this is as good as he's ever going to get.

Keep going kid. Happy for him to contribute off the bench of late. If we're going to push for titles we need all squad players putting in a shift.

He is a squad player and that is all he should be treated like. He has no business starting in big games , like against Real madrid. He is not even Joe Cole level, who was superb for Chelsea. What lingard is a solid squad player who can be called when needed.

In last some years the problem starts when these squad players like Lingard, Young and Fellaini are treated like very important players and start ahead of regulars who deserve more time to play.

There is no doubt he shouldn't be starting ahead of our regulars,
But sometime he will going to start games due to given rest (injuries) for our regular players, problem is fans get upset of this and start throwing dog abuse for Lingard.
Which I think he doesn't deserve. We all know what we going to get from him, we need to accept that.

The clocks ticking for him to become a really top player but he's a useful squad player and seems to have a big goal in him from time to time.

He'll never be a really top player, but he'll be a very good squad option for the next 2/3 years before he goes to Everton.
