When Rashford plays our wingers get a lot more space to work with and we generally see them linking up more freely and with a bit more pace.

It's good to have both Rashford and Ibrahimovic because we have a mix of both a fast attack that works better for the wingers and an amazing striker who almost always scores goals.

Love the comments on his performance pre goal and how they differ to performances after the goal!

Was the same in the match day thread, he was getting loads of grief and being prep'd as the team scapegoat from the first minute.

Fair play to him, cracking goal, seems like a great team player and certainly good fun to have in the changing rooms!

Super performance from Jesse today. Love the way he didn't just offload the ball when he got it, like he has done in previous games.

He was always looking to drive with it and makes things happen. Did it all afternoon, and was rewarded with a fantastic goal because of it.

Well played, Jesse!

P.S. Nice celebration

I know he's got some pace, but he looked blistering quick today

Very good performance.

He needs to play like today more often, his runs were great. Thats exactly what i want to see, take the ball and run through them.

He's got his uses for sure. Happy with today from him. He ran the attacking side of things.

Sure not a nailed on starter at the highest level, but you need this kind of player who has the capacity to perform and isn't going to bitch and moan when he isn't playing.

That's the best I've ever seen him play. Lively, slick, penetrative and a cracking goal to top it off.

His best games for Louis van Gaal came as a central midfielder in a 4141. I would to see him a central midfielder in a 343 as well. He is brilliant through the middle, and we could use his pace and intensity there.

The way he carried the ball up the pitch was the kind of stuff we saw him do so effectively in the YTs. He doesn't run with it he glides.

I've always thought he is one of the best shooters in the squad and his goal today furthers it. I don't know who else I'd have picked over him today in that position to have scored that goal. Maybe Ibra, Rooney or Pogba.

Great goal. I think this is his best position. And also he needs to be consistent now

Just finished watching the game, notice all his fans are out in force today.

As one of the so-called "haters" he did well and enjoyed the space afforded to him. One of our better players today, glad he scored his first league goal in a long time.

Probably one of his top two games this season.
Btw that doesn't alter my opinion.

Very good today, probably our best player. He is becoming a reliable squad player.

He certainly isn´t reliable because of 1 good strike. He has one Premier League goal in 758 minutes and have way to many below performances compared to decent outlets. Thats what you´d expect from an attacking player that would play in the championship but plays in the Premier League ( i know this is sounds harsh but he has not performed in the league ). He did ok today but it was nothing near great but it was better than what he normal produce when playing so that is improvement. A few goals here and there is not good enough for a squad player in a team that wants to win the league and the Champions League.

He has 5 goals in all competitions, in 27 appearances or so (some of them from bench) which is an okay return. I think that the goal in the final of League Cup or even the goal in Supercup are as important as goals in EPL.

He shouldn't start, but he is an okay player to get some minutes here and there.

Lingard is always a good player for us. He's becoming a certain specialist performer. Very unheralded unless he does something spectacular, like today. But a superb squad player to have. Closest I can liken him to is Ji Sung Park, in that he's always running and willing to sacrifice for the team, including being a content part of a squad rotation system. He's not hit Park's level of consistency yet, but the material is there.

I see a shade of Mykhi in his play today. I hope it's true so it means he's picking up from the best.

Never doubted his talent but his work rate is like a yo-yo. If he is able to find that consistency in his game, he will be a cracking player for us.
Having said this, i would rather keep a homegrown player in the team who is happy to be a squad player.

His problem is that he can't handle being pressed or compact sides, which is quite a lot of the sides we play.
I don't think it's the case. His "small" movement in the pocket of space vs compact team is quite handy. Arguably second to none in our team. He did have fair chance in those games too, popping up at the right time for a finish or final ball which he often fails. I think he just doesn't have ability to carry key role/ responsibility for the team in tougher game. He can still contribute with limited role in those game though.

He's more than good enough as an option for us, always gives it his all and has a knack for scoring worldies.

I think he will go down as one of our best ever players to be honest. I can see the signs.

People need to remember that he's still only 19-20 in football years. He had that horrific injury that stalled his development.

He's 24. He didn't have an injury that ruled him out for 4-5 years.

Good on the bench but not good enough to play in champions league game and make impacts.

To be honest he seems better behind the striker, but as usual he's horrible with the ball (exept his goal yesterday), his contribution was average.

I'd keep him in the squad but I don't really hope anything from him.

Always questions me how he can be selected with the NT

It's like it was with Tom Cleverley. Selected alot based on the club he plays for. To be fair to Lingard though, he has played quite well in the games he has had for England.

May be the best I've seen him play for utd.

Fantastic goal too. I'd like to see him shoot from outside the box more often, clearly he's capable of smashing it in.

In fairness his movement off the ball is terrific and does cause defenders problems. I think a lot of managers like having that option.

I didn't catch the game yesterday so I'm not sure what position he started in but surely I can't be alone in thinking that he needs to play off the striker not as a winger as all of his best work is central and mostly off the ball.
