Couple of nice touches and one good run that he should have scored frrom but his first touch let him down, overall didn't really impress.
Hes done more than one cross... I don't even know why I'm continuing this now.
He might show up in the final like beforeDecent hit out tonight, probably not enough to get him a start in the final.
That should be worth a start in the final, as our corners have been atrocious for a long time.He put in a decent corner on one occasion...
Not a great performance again, overall.
The truth with Lingard is he's the kind of player that would be very useful in a potent attacking team.
Has Lingard ever been amazing for us? Like, has he ever had a game where you've thought "Wow, Lingard was incredible today"...? I might be wrong, but I'm struggling to think of one... and that's my biggest problem with Lingard, he's mostly ok, he's often a bit rubbish and he's sometimes pretty good, maybe even very good.... but is he ever amazing?
No, he's never amazing, and never will be.Has Lingard ever been amazing for us? Like, has he ever had a game where you've thought "Wow, Lingard was incredible today"...? Don't get me wrong here I completely understand the dislike for Lingard - he isn't the standard a lot of us expect from a first team Manchester United winger when we've had the likes of Giggs, Ronaldo, Kanchelskis, Beckham etc. However I think that is where I get confused at the hate somewhat as it's clear he isn't a 'first choice United winger.'
Lingard is sufficient. I don't mean that as a positive or negative really it's just an apt description of his ability for his role in the team. He's a good player who is somewhat inconsistent and nothing more. I'm more than happy for us to continually keep Lingard within the squad as back-up. In an ideal world we'd all love every position to be a situation of Cole v Yorke v Sheringham v Solskjaer, or James v Isco, or the entire Spanish National Team's midfield 2008-2012 etc. But it just isn't realistic to have two world class players competing in every position especially when the game is as competitive as it is today - somethings got to give in those situations. Let's compare to the other teams - the likes of Navas, Oxlade-Chamberlain, N'Koudou... the list goes on and it isn't exactly inspiring confidence. Especially when you consider the Price vs Standard of other team's back up players.
So I say this: why don't we keep a home-grown (he helps with the necessary quotas lest we forget), able, local lad who wants to play for the club rather than selling him and then running the risk of signing an expensive, overpaid and underperforming, foreign back-up winger?
Look at the other teams in the League again. Liverpool lost Sane and have no-one to really fill that role so they have to A) Change their system to accommodate the missing player or B) Play someone not totally able in the position. Similarly if City were without the likes of Nolito, Sane and what not they'd have Navas to call on to fill shoes he really isn't capable of filling. Whereas here at United if we were playing Mhyki and Martial as first choice and lost either one of them we can slot Lingard on either wing - while yes he isn't close to the quality of those players I'm still confident he would do a capable job to fill in for the time being, or when they require a rest.
I'd always want proper 'United quality' first choice wingers (or wide forwards or whatever you want to call them in whatever system we end up playing) but I'd be more than happy to keep Lingard at the club in a squad-player role. He is what he is and I would much rather keep that than risk other alternatives totally unnecessarily. That's not to say we shouldn't talk about his performances, criticism, or indeed praise him whenever necessary but talk of selling or upgrading on him isn't what we should be considering UNLESS there was a totally viable and safe alternative that presented itself.
I think even those of us who think Lingard is nowhere near good enough have zero problem with him being a squad player @Jam, the problem is, he starts way to many games when the likes of Mata, Miki & Martial are fit and need game time themselves.
Even Rooney in 2017 is a much better player than him for me.
One of those players that I can't decide, if he's good or rubbish.
Then the issue lies within team selection and therefore Mourinho rather than the criticism of Lingard - it is not his fault he is getting game time ahead of better players and continued criticism on the lad for that isn't justified.
He and Pogba just did a new celebration video on social media and it's rightly getting a lot of criticism from people like Rio Ferdinand, Gerrard etc. And I fully agree with those criticising. Sometimes I feel like Lingard's social media antics deserve a smacking. He's quite an annoying person. Concentrate on your Football instead of these lame celebrations.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Lingard gets way too much hate here. No, he won't be world class, but why do people begrudge him a place in the squad. After all, I'd rather an academy graduate play back-up to Mkhitaryan/Martial rather than someone who we bring in for £20m and yet won't play.
The guy scores big goals in big games, and while he shouldn't be a regular starter, I've no problem with him being in and around the squad
Get a grip, Rio was making spoof videos for MUTV and he still acts like a teenager on instagram now. Gerrard could do with some cheering up, it might have won him a title.
Criticising players for daring to have having fun, ridiculous.
Rio was a world class player and earned that right. Jesse has what less than 50 appearances and most have been average or as a sub.
