Jermaine Jenas | Sacked by BBC

Surprised how negative the reactions are here. Out of all the usual suspects Jenas is often the most articulate pundit, he expresses himself well and looks natural on TV. If they want an ex player to host it then I'd say he is the best of the bunch (not talking about quality of punditry here but in terms of looking, sounding and acting like a presenter)

Ah yes Jermaine Jenas, who when Ole was temporary manager said clearly he should be given the job then after a bad run of form when he was permanent, said he should not have been given the job. No way is he even near the best of the bunch.

I like Lineker and hope he stays but with BBC budget cuts wouldn’t be surprised if they get someone cheaper in.

Seems like I'm in the minority here, but I really like Jenas.

But I also found Savage and Bullard entertaining, so...

Same here unless it’s big game or a major upset then listen to the analysis if I haven’t been able watch the match live.
Sometimes I will just to see how much I disagree

With the salary available I doubt ex footballers whether trained or not in media will turn their nose up at it. The Beeb is still a good organisation to work for. It has had some major issues of late and going back with the sex abuses etc but I’d rather work for them than Sky

Why are British pundits so uncharismatic in general, anyway? none of them have any sort of personality at all. It's so different than when I watch the average American sports talk show or pre/post game pundit team and they're all so articulate and bubbling with personality.

I've noticed that British TV pundits are mostly just former players who played in the top division. Probably chosen that way so people see a recognisable face and tune in. Occasionally they chuck in a grizzled old manager who's managed in the top division at some point to get in an old fashioned British viewpoint.

I can live with the pundits being uncharismatic if they're very insightful and regularly point out aspects of the play or tactics that TV viewers miss because the camera is mostly following the ball. But what most of the current bunch provide is nothing different from the discussions I hear in a pub after the game. Shockingly, not even the managers (apart from Mourinho) are useful. Yes, we at home also see that Player A played with passion and put in strong tackles. Yes, Player B should not have handled the ball. Player C gave away the ball too many times. But we don't know why. Was there sustained pressure on him? Was this tactical? Is this player just crap or was someone cutting off his passing lines all the time? If so, what could this player or his manager have done?

The only reason I watch pre/post match "analysis" now is because it's mostly waffle about how great this Liverpool team are and that's always nice to hear. :D

Roy Keane would make for far better box office...!

Pundit yes, presenting no way. He’d have to facilitate conversation and he just loves putting it out there for people to get triggered.

I simply can’t imagine him. “ Good evening tonight we have a top of a table clash and Alan and Danny will join us. “ “ feck it, they’re all cnuts!”

"Good evening, welcome to MOTD, you've got Pogba in the background... he's a nuisance".

Lineker is paid a ridiculous amount of tax payers money for a few hours work at the BBC.
There are plenty of people who would do it just as well for significantly less money.
The BBC need to stop throwing away our money.

I thought Alex Scott had first refusal on any BBC gig these days?

Hard to look past Mark Chapman. Comfortably the best.

Jenas isn’t bad, but he’d have to cut out saying “to be honest with ya”.

I think Lineker is good presenter, I don't get the negative opinions of him at all. But I remember when he first started he seemed pretty wooden and lacking the charisma he has today. So there is no reason Jenas couldn't develop into the role in the same way. Regardless of if you like Lineker or think he is charismatic or not, there is no doubt he's far better now than when he first started. At the moment, in his role as a pundit, we don't get to see as much of Jenas's personality. But as a presenter, he'll have more opportunity to show his own character etc. He might not have much of a personality, but I think we should reserve judgement.

I only ever watch MOTD for the game highlights. Wouldn't care if Mr Blobby was doing the introductions.

Amount of clowns who can't spell Lineker.

I think he's superb and love having someone with his standing in the as the front.

To bring in Jenas, a moderate player and an absolutely bland pundit is amazing.

Totally agree and came here to post essentially the same.

Lineker is great. Genuinely adds value which is refreshing in the bland world of sports presenting. Jenas is a cliche merchant with little to no substance behind any of his musings. Maybe that’s why they want him.

Really don't get the love for Jenas. Seems a decent guy, but he's so dull and insipid.
