Jermaine Jenas | Sacked by BBC

So, follow the logic of that last sentence and see if you think the points about Tory control of the BBC might have something.

They might... or they might not. The way some are going on about this however is like its a slam dunk and there is no doubt.

This is a new low. As an Iranian, this is the exact playbook of what the Islamic republic does. Our version of Lineker (Adel Ferdosipour) also got banned for criticising the government.

UK is starting become like that film children of men, censorship disgusting. Tories are special, they are getting away so much now it's absurd.

Jenas the face of football, lovely bland choice. Sure the nation can't wait for motd now. Poor Gary Lineker, don't be questioning authority again by the looks of it.

I am not surprised by recent developments in the UK. The nation is dominated by people who are happy to be ruled and a handful who are happy to take advantage of it.

Seems like a good opportunity to overhaul a tired show. I rarely watch it anymore. 4 mins of highlights followed by 6 mins of talking about whatever ref decision they found controversial.

Haven't watched it for alteast 15 years now. Don't see the point or attraction.
Surprised its still going tbh.
Quick fire highlights of all the games of the day. You may not like the punditry in between but how can you not see the point?!

The occasional Saturday when United win and two of our rivals lose and you get to watch it all in a row: that’s stunning.

The BBC shouldn't even have football. Leave it to private TV.

Braverman made a similar assertion not too long ago and was called out for it. It’s bullshit of the highest order. All of a sudden the free speech enthusiasts don’t like free speech.

If the last few years have made anything clear, its that both sides of the political divide only advocate for free speech when its speech that they want to hear. If the speech is against what I want to hear it should clearly be banned.

Thats not the same and I hope you realise that. There is a difference between trying to be impartial which is what the BBC should be doing and not being political. They cover a lot of politics on the BBC but they have a mandate to try and be impartial. Having your highest paid star saying what Lineker did is not a good look for them.

The Qatari monologue was political, so is this. The only difference is that the former took place on live television with permission from the paymasters from the Conservative Party.

That's the first thing I thought, the double standard is hilarious.

The evidence is pretty substantial.

I'm not convinced it is but I haven't looked into it deeply. Nor have most of the people here it seems. We had someone saying that they removed a 6th episode because of a potential backlash and the BBC themselves saying that it wasn't actually part of the series and was a "bonus". Its available on iPlayer.

These are all opinions. You are entitled to yours but please stop pretending that your opinion is fact.

Yes Wrighty.

I hope the BBC get shit over this. The hypocrisy to dig their heels in over Lineker merely tweeting about something, when the fecking head of the BBC has donated millions to the Tory party…

Alan Sugar was explicitly telling people to vote for the Conservatives in the last election and that was fine for the BBC.

Jenas right now...

If you've not looked into it deeply how can you be sure others haven't?

Words for the sake of words.

in a thread of bad takes this is a very bizarre one.

Private companies like Sky and BT do great with football. There's a private market for it.

Why do we need it on publicly funded TV, doesn't make any sense.

Sorry, gents, rewatching the initial Braverman video he tweeted about, I just dont see the comparative language to nazi germany that isnt tenuous. It's a huge leap to make in my opinion and if any language that encourages a more transparent, safer approach to migration, which includes ensuring that host countries have enough means to accomodate and treat these desperate people adequately, is aligned with language of Nazi Germany, then i just dont think its a credible argument. It could be aligned to the position of several left wing governments just as easily and superficially. I detest the tory party, and dont doubt that they lack compassion, but its still an argument rooted in sophistry

Fair enough. Agree to disagree but appreciate you debating it in good faith nonetheless.

Are you trying to wind people up or are you just genuinely clueless?

Dont like TV licenses huh?

Public TV is good because it can do things commercial TV can't.

Like documentaries and other commercially risky TV.

No idea why football is on it, madness.

The problem with the BBC not taking action it would have loaded up the anti-bbc press such as the Torygraph and the Daily sieg heil and it would be front page news for the next weeks.

I mean even the BBC are reporting this as the lead story rather than than the actual bullshit new laws drawn by the Tories.
