Jeff Schlupp

Dah United fans
Around the world
Got a weird thing to show you,
So tell all the boys and girls;
Tell your brother, your sister
And your mama too, cause we
Bought a player from Leicester
And he don't know what to do.

He can play anywhere
Like he don’t care,
Left back
Or midfield, or inside-right-left-square.
Took a chance, took a chance
Straight out of leftfield,
A bit like Bebe, tell me what
The feck? Ah – Jeff Schlupp!
Tell me who got paid?
When he heard the call
He must have been feckin' amazed,
Jeff Schlupp!
It’s so damned odd,
Straight from Leicester reserves,
To the treble chasing squad.

Genius.

Koncheskey is injured and shite anyways. My mate who is a massive Leicester fan is very happy he's back there to play.

Doing well at left-back. Some Leicester fans had him down as MOM at Cardiff yesterday.

Scored a late winner for them. Back in the playoff positions.

Saw Pearson said the following to a local site:

"For a young player to spend some time at Manchester United is a real boost in terms of confidence, but he is back here with us now and he is playing games.

"Jeff wants to be playing games and he is contributing very positively to the side at the moment.

"It was an agreement between the two clubs and that is something we will not talk too much about now.

"But, ultimately, it has benefited the player and ourselves and United have had a good chance to have a look at one of our promising players."

The words: "Something that we will not talk too much about now" makes me wonder - do we have an option to sign the player ?

Yep.. sounds like it..
first dibs.. We've given pearson plenty of our kids. So there is a decent working relationship there.

Perhaps an agreement that we will sign him in the summer, or maybe we will keep an eye on him, and if he develops as we hope we will come back in for him. Who knows really!.

I didn't interpret it like that as he said it 'was' an agreement. I reckon we just needed to borrow a player to make up numbers. He didn't look anywahere near good enough for first team andif we'd signed him for reserves then he'd have still been here I'd have thought.

He barely got a game before we had him on trial, Paul Konchesky was keeping him out of the team. It's like our scouts have unveiled one of their own players to them.

He's playing as a Striker/wing forward for them and doing well.

And? That is his proper position. Not sure what the whole left back thing was about.

Was probably suggested by Scholesy

He's looked a decent player for them up front. Taken a few goals nicely and is very athletic. Couldnt imagine him making a proper breakthrough up front here though

As far as I am aware, Schlupp was played at left back earlier in the season and did very well for somebody as inexperienced as he is in that role, but got injured for a few months and by the time he returned to fitness Konchesky had secured the position and then we asked them if we could take him on trial.

He's now playing in his natural position for them because all their other strikers are useless and at least Schlupp is an athlete with good workrate.

It's sort of interesting to revisit this. He's on the bench tonight. This season he went back to Leicester and has only started 5 games in the league, all of them at striker if the internet is to be believed. I haven't heard much about the deal to bring him on trial but he must have done okay to have stayed for a reasonably extended period?

I never understood that trial. I used to live in Leicester and went to the odd game. He never stood out for me, be it as a left back or forward. To be honest he didn't start that many games for Leicester (if he did I never noticed) He's only 21, so he still has plenty of time on his hands, but I have no idea why we were interested in him.

Thought was more a case of our reserves being light and needing numbers?

For occasions like that we really should be looking at promising young talents who could then remain on the fringes of the first team squad and hopefully step up and get a few games after good reserve performances. This guy wasn't even a standout talent at Leicester.

Complaining about a player United never signed not being good enough is a new one I'll give you that.

I always quite liked the idea of a player either being a leftback or a forward. Like I know there's been guys that have moved from one position to the other (like Evra), but for somebody to actually specialise in both? Strange.

I also like how his name reminds me of the noise people make drinking soup, or something.

ein Schlupp und der apfelkorn ist weg!
Schlupp, schlupp!

* he'd be a hit at FC Cologne.

Oh and I hear Ritchie De laet scored a cracker tonight. Remember him?.....no?.......ok..........

Someone resurrected his thread in the UNited forum monets ago.

I moved it into the FF where it could fade into obscurity like its namesake.

I don't really get your problem. We've loaned and sold a number of players over the years to them. We took Schlupp on for a period, he went back.

Ignore me, its Friday and I've had a crap week and I'm just moaning about something that I think is a sign of something bigger (our quest to spend as little as possible to try to patch up gaps in our squad e.g see Buttner and De laet as opposed to looking for well priced quality in all areas). I think if he'd impressed during his trial here we would have signed him for a pittance and duly sold him when he clearly didn't kick on a become the player he had never threatened to be accept for the last 6 months of his career before he came onto our radar.

However I'm probably just talking shit and I'm not that bothered to be honest, just think its a point worth making.

I think he's new Micah Richards, certainly some club in premier league will buy him in summer.

Are you comparing him to Richards just because he's a big black guy, or am I missing something?
