Jeff Schlupp

Wonder how he did. His trial was only for a week and the team as jetted off to Qatar now. The Leicester fans seemed surprised he can't even make their bench I wonder what we have seen in him.

Can play on the left, back and middle, and can play up front.Whats not to look at.

Perhaps its a morale-boosting signing for the likes of Bebe. 'I may be shit but I'm not as shit as him' or something

Leicester striker Jeff Schlupp has had his spell with Manchester United extended

Schlupp has been training with the Barclays Premier League leaders since the middle of January and this second extension to the arrangement will see the 20-year-old striker finish the month with Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

"He's stayed there, we've agreed to extend that," Leicester boss Nigel Pearson told Press Association Sport.

"I have spoken to him a few times and Jeff is enjoying himself there, things are going well. I think it's great experience for the lad."

Schlupp, who came through the youth ranks at Leicester, has made five starts this season but the majority of them have been at left-back as cover for Paul Konchesky.

The Germany-born Ghana international also made an impact at Brentford during a loan spell in 2011, scoring six times in 10 appearances.

I actually liked the look of this kid a few seasons back when I saw him score a hat trick, not sure if it was the League / FA Cup. Seemed to fall off the radar after that. He must have something about him if Fergie wants a closer look.

I've never seem the lad play and I know hes young but "backed to paul konchesky"? Surely we can do better than that? I mean we already have Fabio and Buttner...

Not sure when / how he became a left back. Looked very much a wide forward / centre forward when I saw him play. He also played as a forward when he was on loan at Brentford and done quite well.

TBF I'm certain Evra started as a striker, then moved to left wing and then left back. I don't think the move to left back happened until he was at least 19 or 20. I'm sure someone here knows. My point is, that players can sometimes change positions very successfully somewhat later into their development. Albeit rarely.

Oh yeah, I'm not debating that - I'm pretty sure that Rudd started out as a CM and Gallas as a striker.

I just hadn't realised that Schlupp had been moved to LB for Leicester. Wonder what position Fergie sees him in, if we sign him.

All the journos seem to think he's being tested as a LB whilst he's here.

His trial has been extended again according to Nigel Pearson and he is enjoying it here.

Interesting. We won't actually be able to sign him until the Summer if we actually want him right?

Interesting, now the question is do we want him as a striker?

Looked to me to have a future at left back, very assured, could pass, tackle, control the ball, come forward. Obviously needed work positionally but that will come, has the physique for that position. I'm glad we're not standing in his way, it's a huge opportunity for him, and a good fee and a good relationship with United would be very beneficial to us. Good luck Jeff!

On the Leicester boards.

They seem to have a lot of respect for United as a club!

I watched the first half of his game vs. Liverpool, he was always a threat. He's a beast of a man. Strong, fast, physical. His finishing was shite though. He should've had a hat-trick in the first half.

It's a really odd one. Not that many players go directly to top teams from the championship any more, much less if they've recently changed position and then fallen out of the first team picture. Hopefully we've seen something others haven't.

Sounds like a de Laet signing for me... obviously I hope he does well though. Our scouting department must see something in him if we sign him straight off the bench from a Championship team.

It's worrying that Paul Konchesky is the reason this kid has barely played a game for Leicester. I remember reading their forum and the fans couldn't understand how a premiership team would be interested let alone a massive club like us. Let's hope we have seen something others haven't but it's a strange deal. He's been on trial though so he must have done something to impress if we want to keep him, good luck to the lad.

I like how his name sounds like the noise of a dog drinking.

Perhaps we just want to take a punt on him and worst case scenario he's going to strengthen our reserves like de Laet did. Some of this transfers are weird because it's hard to see how a Leicester reserve could possibly make it into United team but he won't cost a bomb and might be a valuable player at some point. We took Foster from Stoke's second team and sold him for £4m.

He's roughly the same age as cofie who's out on loan. Is he looking better than him? I haven't seen anything of cofie to form a judgement.

So, he played as a striker against Liverpool?

Anyone else want to weigh in on how he looked? Perhaps we really just bought him because the reserve team needs a striker at present.

Well that would be taking the piss a little, taking another club (who we have a great relationship with)'s second choice left back because he can also play up front and our reserves need a striker!

He looked good, anyway. Quite big, strong, with good balance and pace, showed a good workrate- he seemed a decent striker of the ball but not an accurate or composed finisher, if you get what I mean. Didn't seem to be a great passer of the ball though.

He was physically head and shoulders above the likes of Janujaz, Daehli, Lingard etc, made great runs, decent on the ball, but his finishing let him down on 2 occasions.

Definitely sounds odd, then. Perhaps it's a stop gap trial until Will Keane returns.

More likely that he's being assessed as a left back but due to our striker shortage and wanting to give Buttner a game, he was asked to play there for the match.

He was supposed to have done extremely well at left back for Leicester earlier in the season without any experience in the role, but got injured and Kochesky has kept his place in the team. He was nowhere near their first team as a striker, as I understand it.

Leicester City could be on the verge of agreeing to sell Jeffrey Schlupp to Manchester United, reports BBC Radio Leicester.
Schlupp, 20, has been on trial with the Old Trafford club for more a month and featured in two under-21 games against Liverpool and West Ham last week.

The Ghana international is mainly known as a striker, but has also played as a left-back for the Foxes this season.
"We'll be discussing this week what the next step is," boss Nigel Pearson said.
"As soon as we find that out we will let you know. He has done well."
German-born Schlupp has only started 12 games for the Foxes, having come through the club's youth set-up, but has made a further 23 substitute appearances and also had a loan spell with Brentford in 2011.
Former Leicester manager Sven-Goran Eriksson, who gave Schlupp his debut, told BBC Radio Leicester: "He's a very, very good football player with very good talent. I wanted to keep him.
"If he is ready for Manchester United, I do not know. It is a big thing for him but would be a big loss for Leicester if it happens."

Songs for Schlupp ought to be pretty good.

Dah United fans
Around the world
Got a weird thing to show you,
So tell all the boys and girls;
Tell your brother, your sister
And your mama too, cause we
Bought a player from Leicester
And he don't know what to do.

He can play anywhere
Like he don’t care,
Left back
Or midfield, or inside-right-left-square.
Took a chance, took a chance
Straight out of leftfield,
A bit like Bebe, tell me what
The feck? Ah – Jeff Schlupp!
Tell me who got paid?
When he heard the call
He must have been feckin' amazed,
Jeff Schlupp!
It’s so damned odd,
Straight from Leicester reserves,
To the treble chasing squad.
