Jay-Z: The Blueprint 3

OB4CL2 and Cudi's album > Blueprint 3

But BP3 is actually turning into a nice album with time, much like Kingdom Come for me.

Word is Jay-Z will sell as much in his third week as he did in his second... the Oprah appearence seems to have paid off

Venus vs Mars is a great track, the album is 4/5 for me,the good songs far outweigh the average ones. I still don't find him as lyrical as in his younger days but he makes good music. A star is born is a legendary track as well, giving props to so many artists.

I actually like 4 tracks off the album. I find the rest to be substandard hiphop. But my views are clear on this. I'd prefer to listen to some other albums out there, lot of good stuff coming out recently.

Word of an collab album with Meth, Raekwon and Ghost....

I'm pretty sure I saw Method Man confirm that in an interview a month or two ago...

A month ago? he was interviewed just this week saying that he'd be interested in doing an album.

You obviously have links in the pyschic community

When asked about his absence on BP3 and OB4CL2, Nas told the interviewer to move on to the next question.

Interesting...

Yeah, I read this too. But he did move on to say that it was one of his favourite albums at the moment.

Might not have been that long ago, but I'm confident he said we could expect a album from the trio in the not so distant future.

Why do I always get the feeling that Jay is just going through the motions when rapping nowadays? He can beat anyone in the game today if he put 100% into his rhymes and stuff. Even at 50% he is better than most rappers out there. A shame. But I still feel he could do a whole lot better.

I reckon if you gave Jay-Z a copy of Reasonable Doubt, he would ask what kind of music that is.

BP3 has grown on me quite a bit, after the first listen I skipped through a few tracks on the next listen but having listened to them all again I quite like it. Certainly not his best work but by no means 'bad'.

To be fair, the demand for that type of music isn't that great anymore. I remember reading a Questlove (the Roots, best live hiphop band ever 1!1!1!!!) interview. He and his band was doing a backup for Jay-Z during the concert, and had asked Jay Z prior to the concert, to perform some of the old hits, the ones with Premo, etc. When Jay did this, the audience became quiet, they weren't in favor. Of course, Jay switched back to 'H to the Izzo', and the audience started responding again.

I hate the degree to which his music is watered down now, but could he have been as successful commercially if he didn't? I was in Brooklyn NY during the summer, and Smif and Wessun had this small concert in a park, like 300 people came. It was nice hearing all the old hits, 'Bucktown', etc, but those hardcore tracks don't appeal to the mainstream nowadays. Jay Z realized this early on, and copped out. Doing tracks with Lenny Kravitz, Beyonce, etc, broadened his audience, but that music he used to make, stopped coming out.

And every fecking time he releases an album I think, this is it! But it isn't

Ay Sam how've ya been?

It's been a great album to grow into, every song now other then Forever Young gets replay value from me.

I'm good thanks mate...yourself?

Totally agree, a real grower. Some brilliant tracks, standout ones for me are D.O.A, Empire state, Off That (with Drake), A star is born (with J.Cole) and already home (with Kid Cudi). I like Forever young myself, you not feeling it though?

I think he's been on this gear and is still more relevant than alot of people who give 100%... end of the day rap got him here, but he's bigger than rap now... some people can't accept the fact and try to bring his name down, but myself, I feel pride being a fan of Jay-Z since RD that he's gone from that to where he is now: Representing hip-hop in the mainstream internationally... He's breaking down barriers in all forms of music, be it sales, performance, and even something as little as being on Oprah.

I reckon if you gave Jay-Z a copy of Reasonable Doubt, he would ask what kind of music that is.

He would sign it and give it back

And every fecking time he releases an album I think, this is it! But it isn't

What was your take on American Gangster? Just curious when you make that statement what your opinion was on that record...

Good mate thanks,

I dunno, much like Beach Chair I expect it to grow on me, but this just seems like an out-of-place way to end the album.

I thought it was a decent album, people need to realise there's more to hip hop than underground stuff. Its all the same genre and people just let ignorance blind them.

Thank you, it's one of his best

You have some strange opinions.

Its clearly not one of his best.

In fact, by his standards, its easily one of his worst...

I'm listening to this track again, and my word, every rapper in the game might aswell retire after the last verse, I love this album, please all wack rappers just retire, just leave the earth

I was gonna kill a couple rappers
But they did it to themselves
I was gon' do it with the flow
But they did it with their sales
I was gon' 9/11 'em, but they didn't need the help
And they did a good job them boys is talented as hell
Cuz not only did they brick they put a building up as well
They ran a plane into that building and when that building fell
Ran to the crash site with no masks and inhaled
Toxins deep inside their lungs until both of them was filled
Blew a cloud out like a L into a jar then took a smell
Cuz they heard that second hand smoke kills
Niggas thought they was ill found out they was...ILL
And it's like you knew exactly how I wanted you to feel

Also everbody who needs to be adressed is dismissed in this track

I taught 'em about fish scale they want me to fish for them
They want me to catch clean, then cook up a dish for them
All of this just for them, or they got a diss for him
They want me to disappear, like it's gonna SHIFT for them
They say that I'm in the way, they want me to sit with them
But what they admitting is, they ain't got shit for him
But really the fact is, we not in the same bracket
Not in the same league, don't shoot at the same baskets
Don't pay the same taxes, hang with the same bitches
So how am I in the way, what is it I'm missing
?
Nigga I been missing, nigga I been gone
The shit that you just witnessed is the shit that I been on
And as for the critics, tell me I don't get it
Everybody can tell you how to do it, they never did it
Now these nigga's is mad, oh they call me a Camel
But I mastered the drought, what the feck I'm an animal
Half-man half-mammal
My sign is a Sag, this is just what I plan to do
Oh don't be mad

That's an pretty much impossible question to answer to be fair...

You can say whatever you want about the quality of his (latest) albums, but that man can put up one hell of a set list...

His last response to Nas after ether, was so beautiful and honest

One of my fave Jay Z tracks ever, the beat kicks in, all you think is, this is going to be Epic, he's got alot of shit to say

Can't y'all, see that he's fake, the rap version of TD jakes
Prophesizing on your CDs and tapes
Won't break you a crumb of the little bit that he makes
And this is with whom you want to place your faith?
I put dollars on mine, ask Columbine
When the Twin Towers dropped, I was the first in line
Donating proceeds off every ticket sold
When I was out on the road, that's how you judge Hov, no?
Ain't I supposed to be absorbed myself?
Every time there's a tragedy, I'm the first one to help
They call me this misogynist, but they don't call me the dude
To take his dollars to give gifts at the projects
These dudes is all politics, depositing checks
they put in they pocket, all you get in return is a lot of lip
And y'all buy the shit, caught up in the hype
Cause the nigga wear a coofie, it don't mean that he bright
Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice
It just means you don't understand all the bullshit that he write
Is it "Oochie Wally Wally" or is it "One Mic"?
Is it "Black Girl Lost" or shorty owe you for ice?
I've been real all my life, they confuse it with deceit
Since I will not lose, they try to help him cheat
But I will not lose, for even in defeat
There's a valuable lesson learned, so it evens it up for me
When the grass is cut, the snakes will show
I gotta thank the little homie Nas for that though
Saving me the hassle of speaking to half of these assholes
And I'ma let karma catch up to Jaz-O, whoa
I'm back before you had a chance to miss me
My mama can't save you this time, niggas is history
Who you know flow vicious as me?
Yet so religiously, that's why they call me Hov
I get the spoils cause the victor is me (me, nigga)
You're an actor, you're not who you're depicted to be
The street dreamin, all y'all niggas living through me
I gave you life when niggas was forgetting you emcee
I'm a legend, you should take a picture with me
You should be happy to be in my presence, I should charge you a fee
I'm Big Dog, Glenn Rob, listen God you a flea
And the little homey Jungle is a garden to me
What's the problem B? You not as hard as me
Nigga hard as we, nigga R O C, nigga
That's why they follow me, they feel my pain and my agony, nigga
I won't rest till you on one knee
You want war then it's war's gonna be, nigga
Until you on one knee, you want war then it's war's gonna be, nigga

How can anyone listen to this track and say Jay Z lost?

How can someone so ill not get Beyonce Pregnant, it's a shame but that's another story

Because Ether >>> Any diss track made. Period.

Can't believe what I'm hearing, how many times have you listened to it?

Because there is something missing, the spark and the energy that made him the best - the little bit of cutting edge and depth in his lyrics that made you listen over n over again.

Blueprint 3 is probably better than Kingdom Come...and thats about it.

I've been listening to this album a lot recently, it isn't his best but it's still a good album.

Had he come out with this immediately after Ether came out, I think he would have swayed more fans. The 'Supa Ugly' track that came out was desperate and a low blow, talking about him receiving head from Nas' baby momma. That was the confirmation everyone was waiting for.

And have you heard 'Last Real Nigga Alive' from Nas? I'd say that equals 'Takeover 2'.

Y'all don't know about my Biggie wars
Who you thought 'Kick In The Door' was for?
But that's my heart, y'all still trippin of this Jigga shit
Real niggas listen up and I'mma tell you how the whole thing start
Off top I brung Queens up from hard times
Rockin at the Fever, streets was all mine
It was my version of the blues, droppin our schools
The crack epidemic had rap representin new rules
So I, got in em shoes, tried em wore them
Wasn't a perfect fit, so I couldn't sport em
Young murderers ride, I knew all them
Jungle got shot, Will died, we was warring
I wrote it in my album
I was 18 when Lake seen the Island
And Lord held me down and
My surroundings started changing
I had a baby, I was making my rounds with AZ
Niggas started noticing my flow and was open when
The Golden Child closed em in with more style than them older men
Puff tried to start a label, Prince Rakeem had formed Wu-Tang
Snoop and Dre had a new thang
So Puff drove his new Range through Queensbridge Projects
He let me drive it, before Ready to Die hit
BIG and I hit blunts performing at the Arc
Next thing you knew, BIG blew and all the balling starts
He had Kim and his crew, I found Fox, only niggas in New York with number
one charts
BIG was ahead of his time, him and Raekwon my niggas
But dig it, they couldn't get along
That's when Ghostface said it on the Purple tape
Bad Boy biting Nas album cover way(?)
BIG told me Rae was stealing my slang
And Rae told me out in Shaolin BIG would do the same thing
But I borrowed from both them niggas
Jigga started to flow like us, but hit with 'Ain't No Niggas'
Had much Versace swagger
BIG admired the Brooklyn knight and it took him in as Iceberg the rapper
Today don't know nothing, about this bullshit
There's more shit than wanting to be this King of New York shit

Rap became a version of Malcom and Martin
Rest In Peace Will, Queensbridge live on
There's some ghetto secrets I can't rhyme in this song
There's some missing pieces I had to leave out
I had lot trust for Steve Stoute
At some point till I got to know him
We old friends, but what's loyal?
Puff soaked Interscope offices
With champagne bottles on Steve, and Steve thought the drama is on me
Cause previously it would have been, against whoever
Friends forever
However, I learn, with some niggas it's all business
But I'm a street dude with morals
To diss niggas with Jigga too much, he used to say Jay wanted my spot
I laughed, stayed home, never hung a lot
A quiet man who used to be alone planning
Baby moms thought I was too quiet, couldn't stand it
She hit the streets, later on she hittin the sheets
With a rapper who wanted me on his songs, thinking he strong
I taught her how to watch for cars that might follow
Tauht her street shit that I know
Her weakness was shine yo
But that's her, I ain't mad baby, it made me stronger
Now I get my paper longer
Illmatic I was boss
It Was Written I flossed
One of the most creative LPs ever to hit stores
In the Firm I learned I am Nastradamus
QB's Finest, Oochie Wally, faced more problems
I gave it all up so I can chill at home with mama
She was getting old and sick so I stayed beside her
We had the best times, she asked would I make more songs
I told her not till I see her health get more strong
In the middle of that, Jay tried to sneak attack
Assasinate my character, degrade my hood
Cause in order for him to be the Don, Nas had to go
The Gam-B-I-N-O rules I understood
What you want, see, I already had
The Gift and The Curse? feck that shit, the first shall be last
I'm the man's man, a rapper's rapper
G-O-D S-O-N, they'll be none after
I was Scarface, Jay was Manolo
It hurt me when I had to kill him and his whole squad for dolo

Overall, I think the margin was very fine. Takeover was more cutting, said what everyone felt at the time. Ether was just obliteration

So I went to wiki and read about this so-called beef between Nas and Jay-Z and jesus christ what a pair of crybabies. How the hell their fans can be in awe with those low-brow shananigans is beyond comprehension.
