Jay-Z: The Blueprint 3

Rumour is though, is that he's already working on his next album, and its going to be focussed more towards hiphop.

He's confirmed that he's already working on his next album.

He also said that it will be some proper experiential shit and that it will never top any charts.

Make of that what you will...

What We Talkin' About, Empire State of Mind and On to the Next One are the standout tracks on this album.

Have you got the bonus tracks as well ?

The remix for Jockin Jay-z and D.O.A are really impressive.

My stand out tracks are:
D.O.A
Empire State of Mind
Thank You
History
What we talkin bout

I also liked the fact that he praised Eminem's flow on "Renegade" on "A Star is born". Eminem really outshone him on that track.

This for me was one of the worst albums I've heard this year.

Jay-Z is a shadow of his former self, thankfully Skyzoo and Brother Ali were there to take me away from that garbage.

What album is generally considered to be his best? I've never been a fan of his, but then again I've never really heard his earlier stuff.

Reasonable Doubt. He has never come close to making music like the stuff on that album.

For me, Jay-Z started falling off after that album, because nothing he can make or even talk about can reach the levels of Reasonable Doubt. Similar to Nas and Illmatic.

This for me as well. (But slightly edited.)

Just listened to the album and i'm not convinced. I'm a Jay-Z fan but the majority of stuff on this sounds like filler.

I do really like the track with Alicia Keys, think that is by far the stand out.

So it's not "falling off"... what's the point of making such a statement.

He was taken off it - was supposed to be on Empire State Of Mind - which would be appropriate

Nas probably outshone him.

No, Nas didn't show up to the studio to do his verse and nobody from Jigga's camp has spoken to him since.

He was supposed to be on the new Kid Cudi album as well and went MIA.

I could have made it clearer. Falling off is not a natural action for musicians, for me Jay-Z took a path that would lead to more exposure, which in turn meant he had to change his style, and more importantly his production selection and lyrics to reach a broader audience.

He has/had more then enough ability to bring back the style and flow seen from Reasonable Doubt days, but he didn't, and for those that loved that album the way I did, it wasn't a fair exchange. The music he makes these days are for a different genre entirely, and that's down to choice.

Nas is the same to a degree, and even now you can see that they could go back to those debut albums, lyrically they aren't dead or anything, it's just it wouldn't sell enough, so they don't. Mobb deep are an example of a group that stayed on the same level of realness as their first album, and you can see they had to grind it out for a long time before being recognized and hitting the mainstream. They knew they wouldn't sell as much, but they didn't let their music be the compromise.

This is a good post.

Empire State of Mind and A Star Is Born (Only for J Cole) are the tracks I like.
I feel the BP was never going to be topped. Momma Loves Me, Lyrical Exercise, Heart Of The City & Renegade were all quality.
I have found myself liking less and less of his music You Don't Know Remix Ft. MOP was a madness as well

Fav Jay Z songs?

Cashmere Thoughts

Is this something you've actually heard officially?

Rumours and BS in the music industry is even worse than it is in football!

That was the song I was waiting for and no those are NOT all classics

Great album is Blueprint 3 as with all Jay-Z music he brings togther something thats really great to listen to. Empire State of Mind is the standout track no doubt him and Alicia Keys are both the best in their respective fields. Some people are never satisfied they always want an artist to stay exactly like they were in the begining its just stupid. Like he says on this album if you don't like it and want his old stuff go buy the old album. Most won't though because the same idiots critising are the ones who don't buy shit and are the reason albums have to cater to the radio addience in the first place (the balance is dead on on the blueprint 3 btw) a little for proof see the sales figures for the already mentioned Raekwon and Slaughterhouse albums.

All this is of course my opinion not 'fact' like some are saying which by the way is bullshit its just their opinion.

I think they are, and I don't give a flying feck what you think to be honest.

To be honest I was disappointed in Illmatic considering the hype about it. In fact it almost stopped me picking up Stillmatic, which would have been a tragedy as I think that it's a brilliant album and one of my most listened to.

Illmatic is probably the best well-rounded, lyrically versatile and most complete album there ever was. At least for me. I don't think we will ever hear those type of beats, or that level of story telling again. Most of it made when he was 19 as well, fecking hell.

Is this something you've actually heard officially?

Nas still hasn't commented... surely if there was some fabrication to him not showing up then it would be what it is.

There's new beef there, fresh issues with Nas and his colleagues... he failed to drop on the Jadakiss album, he didnt show up for ESoM even though he was on the tracklist... etc, etc, etc.

But he's going through some shit so I couldn't blame him for putting his family before a record on an album that's not even his.

The thing I love most about Illmatic (And I agree, I think God's Son and Stillmatic are amazing albums, = at least) is how it's almost like a shot-glass of hip-hop... the bridge the gap between the original sounds and concepts of the 80's and early 90's, to the age between '94 and about '04.

Illmatic was the beginning of an era for Hip-Hop...

Was just on iPlayer and noticed Jay performed at the end of Friday Night with Jonathan Ross this week. He did Empire State of Mind, with Bridget Kelly filling in for Alicia Keys, and Lil Mama was nowhere to be seen!

For those who missed it or aint in the UK:

Run This Town Spoof

I like the way he totally committed and went the extra mile with the video.
Personal highlights are the Kanye dancing and Rihanna's real voice at the end
