Javi Martinez

I'd take him over the likes of Kroos, Fabregas, Carvalho, etc that we've been linked with. Would be perfect for us.

Is everyone leaving Bayern?

'Reports from Germany are that Martinez is unhappy at Bayern Munich, at least that's what comes up when you google Martinez:'

does not equate to

'Everyone is leaving Bayern Munich' or even 'Javi Martinez is leaving Bayern Munich'.

You know what he means.

The lack of manager complicates things our end, however surely he is worth pursuing?
Two years into a contract... About time to renegotiate so probably just a tactic to get more money

Though if there is any truth in the matter he wont be short of offers

This forum is for transfer speculation and discussion. It is more plausible to argue we will sign Martinez than Vidal, therefore I don't see anything wrong with discussing whether United should pursue this player if he become available.

I doubt everybody will be leaving Bayern Munich however I would not be surprised if some players want a different role to the one Guardiola has for them.

Players are motivated by money and regular football and challenging for trophies. Perhaps another club will give him a stronger offer and he will be interested.

Arsenal have made an enquiry according to the Telegraph, and that City and PSG are also interested.

Muller, Kroos and Martinez? Can we nab Alaba whilst we're at it?

Martinez is not completely impossible, even so its unlikely. Pep didnt use him as holding player in the defensive midfield, which is arguably his best position and he had problems as CB in a high line against fast forwards; he lacks the necessary pace.

2 of Martinez, Cesc, Kroos

Shaw

1 experienced CB (Mangala/Benatia)

- rid of some deadwood (Young, Cleverley, Fellaini, Fletcher :( ,1 of Valencia/Nani, Chicha :( )

- Rio, Giggs, Vidic, Evra leaving

- promote some youngsters (Powell, Lingard, Wilson, M Keane etc)

...

For sure. A lot easier to find a CM who excels at the offensive part of CM play then an elite DM like Martinez.

-------Rooney/RVP----
Januzaj-Kagawa-Mata
-----CM----Martinez
Evra/LB-----------Rafael
-----Jones---Smalling--
----------De Gea------

Looks real promising. Tons of CM's who could excel there too. Off hand, I can think of Rakitic, Hamsik, Pjanic, Gundogan, Koke, Fabregas, Strootman, Benat, Herrera, Pogba, Vidal, Cabaye, Verrati and Kroos who would all look pretty good with Martinez doing the holding work.

Exactly, lesser players of his ilk out there.

Has only started about 20 games this season.
From the few I've seen him in (admittedly not a lot) he hasn't really looked in good enough form to be starting, would take him in a heartbeat, mind.

Please. I rate him as the best holding midfielder in the world.

Really? Ahead of Pirlo, Alonso and Busquets? I rate them all higher than Martinez.

Didn't he play half the games in central defense this season?

Pirlo more of a playmaker than a holding midfielder.

Alonso? Yes. Alongside passing range is better but Martinez is stronger defensively.

Busquets? Same as Alonso. Martinez is an absolute monster.

Yes, I didn't see those games but I'm willing to bet that that's the cause of the dip in his form, he's a quality player don't get me wrong.

To be fair, apart from busquets, he's younger than all of them aswell
True, I think if he'd been played in position consistently this season then he'd probably have surpassed Alonso and Pirlo, he's better defensively than Busquets but in terms of keeping the ball and not conceding possession Busquets edges it for me, isn't much between them though.

His performance at OT with Bilbao was absolute class. Was convinced we should have went for him before Bayern. Telegraph saying Arsenal are enquiring too. If he's available then it shouldn't even be a question that we want him.

Busquets and Javi are pretty similar in their output. Busquet is the better passer and Javi is more physical. He offers great defensive stability and he rarely loose the ball. He would be a great signing for you.

Thats not because of a dip in form. Thats because of injury problems they have had in central defense this season.

Now i understand why so many Bayern fans have been promoted. You really need a battalion to commentate all these rumours.

I don't think he'll want to leave the CL if he does leave.

We should be all over this like a rash if there's any hope though. Wenger's criticised his technical ability in the past though, apparently.

Should have been in for him before he went to Bayern.

Class both at centre half and dm.

Should go all for him, shaw,
Reus and carvalho

They'd have to be bonkers to let him go.

I'm not surprised. After years of United fans moaning about our creativity in midfield and the lack of someone to dictate games, suddenly Martinez is a top target. He's second rate in technical ability in my opinion.

And for a big guy he seems a bit soft. I've seen him get bullied around by smaller players quite a few times. It wouldn't surprise me if Bayern let him go.

I see no white text. You deserve your tag line.

Sweinsteiger and Martinez in midfield reminded me of Ince and Keane. Two powerful, technically good, centre midfielders capable of good work in either penalty area. As a combination they had strength, stamina, carried a goalscoring threat and while neither was a true playmaker their ability to bully less imposing players made that a null point. As a partnership Sweinsteiger and Martinez were what City have in Toure and Fernandinho, just better. Pep broke that partnership up to accomodate his system...

...the wisdom of that decision will be seen in time. But if Martinez is on the market we'd be idiots not to try buying him.

We should offer an obscene amount for him, he'll instantly solve most of our problems. Bayern bought him for 40m? we should offer 50m. He'd be worth it.

A big Munich online newspaper had a poll today - who of this players Bayern does not need...

The result
Toni Kroos - 44%
Bastian Schweinsteiger - 17%
Mario Mandzukic - 14 %
Javi Martinez - 5 %
Thomas Müller - 2 %
None of them - 18 %

No Gotze or Lewandowski in the poll? :p

No - they only took the 5 into the poll. Guardiola was not in it either.

If they would make a poll with the question - if Thomas and Javi do not match the system who should go - Pep or Thomas/Javi - you can imagine the outcome of it...

If there is any truth to these rumours, we need to do everything possible to get hold of Martinez. Out of all the players mentioned, he should be the first target in a rebuild. He would provide the base for our attacking players to shine, by providing stability and a defensive shield.
