Jason Wilcox - New technical director

I had a go at this a while back, but I reckon this is more accurate now with Fletcher staying on and a more fitting description of his actual role.

Finally beginning to look like a football club with some direction.

I would say the medical department needs an overhaul, but at this point it needs a miracle.

Also has it been confirmed, re the Head of Recruitment?

I don't think so. There were reports we were interested in Jewell before he went to Chelsea, but with Berrada, Ashworth and Wilcox, perhaps they think they have that side of things well enough covered.

There's going to be a performance director too that will report to Ashworth.

Hopefully not. I'm still looking forward to the Head of recruitment's recruitment. They shouldn't half ass anything.

I'm going to need a second monitor to see this Google Sheet if they come up with any more Directors.

Glad to hear another "best in class" appointment for the roles. Hope the next best in class will be for the manager roles.

Could someone enlighten me as to why he’s highly rated? What’s he done that can make me excited about this news? Other than just hopelessly believe he can help turn us around I mean.

There was a posted on here that kept hinting that Dougie Freedman will be joining us, what's going on with that?

Just eat your surströmming and be happy, this is clearly (hopefully) very good news!

Well for starters a competent person who knows his role is appointed than just giving to some yes man.

"first team liason", what's does that person do?

Used to hate him at Blackburn, imo he was their best player when they beat us for the title in ‘95.

Helps prepare players for transition from youth team to first team.

Will need to speak to coaches at youth level and first team coaches and specifically work with the players and help them make the step

Just realised this is THE Jason Wilcox from my childhood from the nineties, wow!

Thanks, sounds like a good fit for Fletcher.

Good start, but you need to add Chief Operating Officer - Who is Collette Roche (for the time being at least, Berrada might want his own person in the job)

Can anyone tell me who he’s discovered/signed? Can’t seem to find a breakdown anywhere and I’m intrigued what kind of players he likes?

I love how bitter Southampton is, such a small club and they're making a fuss over it.

'acceptable compensation' and 'reluctantly agree'.

It's like leaving a landlord you have been with for 6 months to owning a property and the landlord 'reluctantly lets you leave' nobody was fecking asking.

He was only in this role for a year at Southampton, prior to that he was at City in various academy coaching roles, during that time one of the players that came thru was Phil Foden

It’s good that he was so valued by Southampton

I’d like the new owners to have a good relationship with Southampton though. They often have a gem in their team. I’d be offering them a player on loan this summer

Is Jason also the 1 to judge when organizing and orchestrating the academy and transfers?
I'll give an example: If Jason knows about a talented player in the academy in a specific position, can he structure and plan that we won't need to buy from outside and he can talk to the manager about involving the player and get that individual some minutes as we did with Kobe and Garna ? Or maybe loan him so that eventually he'll come back to be in the squad ?

I mean if you believe one man can turn it around on his own your probably going to be disappointed in Wilcox alone, the thing you have to trust is the new set up if Berrada thinks he is the man to bring in you have to have a leap of faith somewhat and believe he is the right fit, also to turn it around is going to take time also if anyone thinks this will be easy ir quick they are in for a short sharp shock imo

To add to this, he was also the guy that convinced City to keep Palmer when they were all set to release him at 16. So he effectively made them £40m out of nothing with that one. Or to put it another way, Wilcox is the reason we can't sign Palmer for peanuts this summer, the bastard.
