Januzaj on loan to Sunderland?

Not a bad option for him if it ensures he gets a season of football. It's perhaps negative in that it does show LVG doesn't particularly have any plans for him this season, but if he's sending him out on loan as opposed to simply selling him, then he surely still values Januzaj to some extent.

I've always thought Sunderland were OK, though I fecking hated Poyet a lot. They've got a likeable manager in Advocaat now, though.

Poyet was always a dis-likable character. He came out with some absolute bizarre stuff. The faeces incident at Brighton, the sacking live on air, defending the indefensible Suarez. Being constantly at odds with our director of football, whining about the press being constantly against him and the disastrous claim that we all are pine for the return of Quinn and Phillips. Not to mention the recent bitterness towards us and Dick over us surviving and our squad. The bloke seems a total bell-end.

I'd heard he didn't want to go on loan anywhere, this surprises me.

With more attacking talent like Januzaj coming in though, we can be more expressive going forward. It's the chicken and the egg situation.
To some extent I guess.
I'd be surprised. Extremely surprised. Johnson may not get in the likes of United, City and Chelsea's squad but he's a very, very good player for us. It'll be Januzaj and Johnson not either or.
So he would probably start most games on the bench as Lens would start with Johnson. I guess a 4-2-3-1 would see the three of them start. He'd be the obvious choice as a sub for any of those two.

By the way, it's nice to have other fans on the board, it's always good to hear other perspectives. I can see you've been here a while but you've added quite a bit to your post count in this thread I reckon. :)

Maybe turmoil was too strong, but you's have struggled immensely over the past few seasons and I'm not sure that would do anything positive for Junazaj. I wasn't slagging the club off by any means and have no problem with Sunderland like plenty on here seem to have. As I alluded to, Advocaat will definitely improve things during his time there, but the squad, for me, is still poor. The likes of Mavrias, Roberge and Buckley are far from PL standard. Lens could be a good signing, M'Vila isn't there yet and if he does sign, it could go either way, I don't rate Coates one bit, fwiw.

If Januzaj does move there, then good luck to him and I'll be hoping Advocaat gets the team playing well with Adnan being an integral part. But in case you hadn't noticed, we are extremely light in the forward position and that is where Januzaj played during pre-season. If that situation stays the same by the end of August, then I feel Januzaj will get chances here. He seems very much a confidence player, and if he went to Sunderland and things were going against him / the team, it could have an adverse affect on him.

I can't argue over the fact we've struggled. However I do feel we have turned a corner. Persuading Dick to postpone his retirement, the just one more year contract for Wes Brown, the signings and the ambition and money shown by Ellis Short is fair evidence that we are learning from our previous mistakes started by Monsieur Bruce. Mavrias is still a hit and miss for me. Whenever he has played for us, he's done well. He's experienced Champions League football and will only improve. However, he won't be a threat to Adnan and it will be no surprise to see him return to Greece. Roberge and Buckley are nowhere near PL standard, madness reigned during the De Fanti/Di Canio regime and Buckley was Poyet being the stubborn bastard that he is. M'Vila will be confirmed tonight but I agree, there's question marks over his head. Coates didn't really play much last year and again, he seemed to be a pawn in Poyet's game because he was Uruguayan. When Advocaat came in and was trusted with a role, he did well. Again, he may not be Liverpool/United standard but for us, he's got a good chance. I completely understand the last part of your post. The way things are being reported up here, it's as good as done and we're just waiting for confirmation. Whether that is United holding out until they can confirm another attacker, I don't know.

Really don't see what peoples problem is with him going to Sunderland.

If you look at the other realistic teams he could go to and play everyweek, there are only a handful of teams

Leicester City
Bournemouth
Aston Villa
Norwich City
Swansea
Watford
West Ham (debatable as they are already stacked)
Newcastle (debatable as they are already stacked)

Unless, as I suspect, Januzaj will come in as our central striker. Defoe is arguably our best finisher but he's mid 30's and I think Dick has doubts over his ability to play in a 4-3-3.

Cheers for the welcome. I've been here a while, mainly lurking with the odd comment here and there but as expected, a mention of Sunderland will see me become a bit more involved.

No more of a risk of sending him to any other club outside of the top 6 or 7.
I meant that sending Januzaj on loan to Sunderland is more of a risk than sending a defensively hard-working, athletic Danny Welbeck to a Steve Bruce managed Sunderland.

Any Premier league loan would be a risk for Januzaj. When you break down every potential club he could join, very few seem a guarantee of game-time.

People mentioning Everton, Swansea, or even Palace are being optomistic. And the lower teams are all a managerial change, or bad run, from benching him for good.

Agree, thought you meant just sending him to Sunderland was a risk.

Swansea wouldn't loan a player for the first team, if they weren't planning to sign them permanently, in my opinion.
Newcastle wouldn't play him enough, in my opinion. Or West ham, who also have big earners. He'd have to be on it every game.
Villa won't play both him and Grealish regularly. And since they own Grealish, and probably rate him as highly, they'll focus on his game time.
I wouldn't trust Watford, to be honest.

Which leaves Bournemouth and Norwich, only just promoted and likely to constantly struggle or us, who have a chance to push on with better players. Good move, I think.

Firstly, there's no doubt he'll play. Where, is the issue.. You're spot on too with the statement we may well play 4-2-3-1 at times. We've done it once or twice during games in pre-season with Johnson as the 10. I'd be surprised if we start that way though.

Secondly, no chance will Lingard go to the Mags. Know a couple of people who work for them and it's not going to happen. They ruined their relationship with United over Rossi.

It was crazy when they played Sibierski over Rossi up front but we both have new managers and McLaren was the #2 here when we won the Treble (and went 3 for 3 with winning the league) so I'm surprised to hear things wouldn't have reset.

Depends on how Van Gaal sees the front 3:

If option 1 is Pedro - Rooney - Depay, then option 2 can be Young - Hernandez - Pereira/Lingard/Januzaz

If you'd like to retain Lingard in the first team and loan out Januzaz, that's a matter of preference after that. Lingard has been on enough loan spells already and probably needs a show or go season in the first team.

You can rule out pretty much any team with their own young hope.
which means Villa (Grealish) Everton (Lukaku and Barkley) Palace (Zaha)
You can rule out the top 6 or 7.
You can rule out 'family' style clubs, like Southampton and Swansea, who'll only loan in key players when they plan to buy them later.

The more I think about it, the better Sunderland appears a good move.

A lot of pressure on him to score goals, though, if he plays up top. And if things go tits up for you, you get in a new manager or are low down come Christmas, you may well sign some new striker or opt for the experienced Defoe.

Every move would be risky, but you're probably on the very short list of good potential loan moves for him.

caisenma in ruins. ashley young gets a new three year contract and januzaj is rumoured to be out the door all within 48 hours of each other.

Think the move would be good for the lad guaranteed PL football and experience to boot, and as long as we could bring him back anytime.

I don't see why is it a bad move even if Sunderland get relegated. People learn a lot of pressure from relegation battles. It helps them mentally

I'd be amazed if the were more than 4 teams below ye this year to be honest.

I don't know you at all, I very rarely post on here although I view it a lot but if you were to message me, I'd bet you 5 pound we don't finish below 15th this season. By all means, completely ignore this but I am that confident.

I've already backed ye to get relegated so enough financial interest  :nervous:. Why are you so confident though I don't really see any area of the side that ye have improved. Granted you got rid of Vergini but Kaboul or Coates aren't exactly a centre half you'd want in a relegation battle.

It's pathetic. It was pathetic certain fans doing it, the reaction was pathetic and still is pathetic. Move on.

It's not an issue for me mate, I didn't get it at the time as the clubs have always seemed to have a decent relationship and Fergie always seemed to have a soft spot for Sunderland in general, but I was just answering your question. If Januzaj is going on loan I just want it to be where he can get the most games, if the club feel that is at Sunderland then great.

If he does go out on loan, which would surprise me, I think van Gaal must trust Advocaat to bring him on as a player. Don't think we'd have necessarily seen him go there if Di Canio or Poyet was in charge.

Unless theres any truth in the Kane bid might be more understandable putting him out on loan who knows.

Fair enough. Matthews is a step up from Jones. Kaboul is a step up from Vergini. Coates will replace Brown who isn't mobile enough to be a first choice PL CB anymore. If he keeps up the performances he put in under Advocaat then it's another step up. M'Vila is a massive step up in quality from Bridcutt although there are still question marks over him and Lens is a massive step up from Buckley and arguably from playing Wickham although I wish we'd kept him. Seeing us every week may make me see the little things a bit more clearer. We've improved. How much is the question.

Yeah, which is not a position I see Januzaj playing at his best, nor do I want him playing there anyways.

There has been rumours of Van Gaal wanting to improve Januzaj centrally. If we're willing to play him centrally, it could be deal on.

That was my initial reaction to the rumours actually. Advocaat might have told van Gaal he could see Januzaj playing centrally.

Good to here. Unfortunately, some still seem to hold a massive, unnecessary grudge against us for the part of a small majority.

Agree with Swansea, though their squad is quite thin. Watford have actually brought in quite a lot of players, but they are likely to going to be struggle so will need as much quality as possible. West Ham have lost Valenica for quite a while. Football wise, Villa would have been my preferred destination for him, but didn't realise how many players they have brought in

Sunderland really is the best team he could go to, their squad is very small, hes going to play alot there and who knows what going to happen to Johnson

F..uck off, no. Players there have had a reputation for too long. Club of dogs, drunks and wastemen. Adnan's likely young enough not to be safe there yet either.

You've been reading too much Secret Footballer.

Pretty much! Nah, the drinking thing about Sunderland's dressing room's been going around a long time and there's been plenty of taabloid stuff, (Fletcher gobbing on people during nights out etc). Sunderland's not alone there, United for one's had it's problems with it (especially at the fecking christmas parties) but it seems to surround the club more than most in the top flight nowadays.

Then there's the youth player thing - think the club have relatively few kids break through and play consistently in the first team for awhile (can only think of Henderson without looking it up) - so why would they bother developing one of ours, especially one who is still raw?

I'm very torn on whether I want him to go out on loan or not. All the playing time would be great for him but he's come in and fought for his place and committed himself to bulking up for the PL, his commitment level to becoming great is amazing, not many players would take a trainer with them on holiday and stick to the strict regiments like he did. I also believe Van Gaal views him at the back-up striker/shadow striker, if Rooney or Depay go down he's next up. I think LvG will be very hesitant loaning him out unless it's the perfect situation for Januzaj. However, if he is loaned I do wonder whether he would be playing up front or on the wing, because if LvG sees him as a striker then i'd assume that's where he'd want him playing.

I don't think many of us hold a grudge against it pal, you'll probably find it's a small minority there too. I certainly don't, and the united fans I know don't give a feck. Far more traumatic things happens that day!

Probably a bit small time on my part but I've not forgotten their celebrations when City won the league, I'd love these to go down to be honest and feck loaning them Adnan.
