January Transfer Window

Claims Manchester United Could Take 3 Top Newcastle Players

1 min ago by Sam Hepworth
It has been claimed that Newcastle would sell three of their top players if Manchester United came in for them.
The claims have come in the latest issue of United We Stand, an independent Manchester United magazine.
The comments are made in a regular ‘insider knowledge’ type piece and the editorial team are usually well connected when it comes to events inside their club.

The piece states;
‘The league title seems as out of reach as it did a few months ago and the stark realisation that Manchester United won’t be involved in a title bid for the first time in years is becoming pretty clear.
Perhaps more worrying are the noises coming out of Old Trafford already that “signing players in January is difficult” – easy words to say but why is it so?
Newcastle would sell Cabaye,Tiote and Santon. All would add value to United’s squad, would come, and perhaps most importantly, be eligible for the Champions League.’
Whether Newcastle would sell is a matter of opinion but we are regularly told every player has his price.
With figures of £40m/£50m spent by Man Utd’s competitors (Arsenal/Chelsea) on single players (Ozil/Torres) then a similar figure to land all three Newcastle players named would you imagine be of definite interest to Ashley.
Whether Manchester United would be seen as such an attractive destination now, would also be open to question.
Manchester United fans would have been aiming higher than our three players previously and so there is an acceptance that they are having to adjust their expectations.
However, it also reinforces that Newcastle have got some very good players and it is vital that everything is done to persuade them to stay before it is too late, not strengthening the squad in January would be a massive own goal.
As for selling any or all of these three players in January – it just doesn’t bear thinking about.

We're just buying everyone! Now can we just get someone.

That article is confusing. From who's perspective is it being told? At one point they say the info is comeong from a United fanzine and then they go on to say "Manchester United fans would have been aiming higher than our three players" which is from a Newcastle perspecive.

Utter tosh anyway, but not even well written tosh.

True... believe it or not one of the best sources of united transfer news is Daily Mail.

Not a chance. They started that bullshit Pogba and Vidal double deal. They've started a whole load of other crap to make us look stupid when we don't get them, even though we were never in for them.

I did not say they re infallible...simply the best of the trash

Yeah, well thats true. Sometimes its fun to read them but that happiness is instantly destroyed when I realise its bullshit and we won't sign anybody

clearly Matic wanted to join Chelsea as soon as it was apparent they wanted him. Not sure if they had a clause from before in terms of price but certainly United wouldnt have picked him up for the same price

This sounds very similar to the concession speech regarding Thiago. Once he joined Bayern, we all put two and two together and declared that of course, he would only leave Barca to play for Pep.

I doubt Matic would only considered the team that didn't give him a chance and traded him for someone they valued higher. Personally, I reckon if we had a serious interest, it would have at least been a fight.

Santon and Cabaye are both good players but I don't want Tiote anywhere near our team. Very dangerous player to have in a cup tie when things aren't going so well for your team.

Matic claimed in an interview, there were other offers on the table, but he insisted on coming to Chelsea.

Now, I'm not saying one of the offers was from United, because I simply don't know, but I have a feeling, he genuinely wanted to come back to CFC. People just assume that he should have taken personal being used as a makeweight in Luiz's transfer, but he was an unknown back then and had no shot at breaking into the CFC squad. The move to Benfica actually worked out very well for him and he was happy to return as an established player.

Tiote's limitations would be shown up hugely here. He's not good enough. I'd take the other 2 though for sure.

In faieness I dont think their objective is to make us look stupid I think its to sell more papers

Obviously but when we are currently the best way to make people buy/read their articles online then they'll do it. They do it with whatever club is in "crisis" according to them. I'm quite sure Arsenal were constantly targeted by them last year. They'll fuel the fire till people get bored and want another club/person to target.

Is it just me or have all the ITK's even given up thinking were are actually going to sign someone....

Even the fake ITK's can't even be arsed making stuff up any more. They know we don't believe a word of anything.

I've noticed as much. I think it's more down to the fact that even the papers are throwing names out there like confetti so who gives a feck what @FOOTIAGENTREALPERSON17 has to say about anything. You can get your fix reading any of the papers.

The one thing I return to is the release of Anderson. I don't see why he would release MF player now unless he had someone coming in -- loan or whatever.

Straw clutching, I know...

Sunderland's Dong-Won Ji (who was just loaned out to Augsburg until end of season) supposedly (German magazine Kicker reported it as a fact, they usually don't publish guesswork) signed a contract with Dortmund starting next summer. Makes me kinda wonder how Sunderland managed to not play him at all :D

This seems to be getting desperate. And we are apparently letting Anderson go. Because our midfield needs to have its fat trimmed ya know...

I don't know where else to put this but I just read Kompany saying City can win the Quadruple.

FFS, if SAF had City's money he'd have won everything year upon year.

Glazer. Thanks.

The City defense and GK are not the best but the attack is awesome and out with that they have a midfield that scores goals. That used to be a big weapon for us we could score goals from everywhere, nowadays it is only from our strikers and very occasionally Evra. If we are to be really successful again this needs to change for us.

Exactly, if there's something that Ferguson's career was really missing it was silverware. Those American bastards. Bet they also stopped him being all Scottish and a bit shouty. The cnuts!

Well its not exactly going to change when all we can afford is players from Newcastle and Everton is it. Whilst City, Chelsea, Madrid, Barca, Bayern hoover up all the better players. I wouldn't take anyone from Newcastle right now, think its just desperation on us United fans, as in anyone is better than no one but look how that turned out with the big lump recently.

He was never getting a look in anyway, we're hardly losing anything by letting Ando move. It means we're short by one substitute who got an occasional 10 minutes.

United supporters can't be complaining about lack of money - you were breaking transfer records before any other club in the PL.

I suppose the main point here is that United's success was always balanced between youth and strategic transfers. Hard to say that's the case with today's sugardaddy clubs.

Very true, thesedays you spend years and years developing youngsters and they move on at the chance of a bigger payday, ala Pogba. And that one wasn't even to a sugardaddy club to begin with.

SAF said it right when he said the game has gone mad when 19 year olds are going for £45 million... But unfortunately that's the way it is now, and the way it will be.

If we want to be a global footballing powerhouse, we need to act like one. It's a nasty business, filled with nasty characters generally manipulating very poorly educated boys in one of the most lucrative careers in the world. United have been fortunate in that they had a generation of players that were both a bit blue-collar, hard working types but also phenomenal talents that were willing to play for the shirt. I'm not convinced we can expect that anymore. It'd be nice, but I think it's a fantasy.

Look at City at the moment. I'm not exaggerating when I say their home form is simply the most dominant, exciting, attacking football I've ever witnessed in England. But not a single one of those players ever thought they'd play a single moment for Manchester City when they were growing up. There are no youth players there, no sense of history or 'playing for the sky blue shirt'. It's simple - City have spent and they now have far and away the best set of players in the league. It's as distasteful as a gold-plated Ferrari and probably appeals to the same clientele, but that is the market in which we now operate.

There are countless examples throughout history of once dominant companies desperately clinging to their old business models, while the world moves on without them. That's where we are today. We can either use our enormous revenues to play at the true top table of global football, or we can join the also-rans. Who do we want our peers to be? If it's Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal, Milan and so forth then so be it. But if we honestly believe we're in the same category as Real, Barcelona and Bayern then we need to start acting like it, because it's very easy to get left behind pining for the good years.

So I say suck it up. Pay the scum agents their fees. Piss on their cash if it makes you feel better, they'll take it any way they can. Because we desperately need some marquee signings, as much for our reputation as anything else.

Claymore you need a hug my friend ;) in fairness to Moyes it looks like he is only targeting the really top players like fabregas Baines etc I'd have a little more patience before jumping to this conclusion. As for Fellaini he is a very good player (we paid about £5m-£7m to much) but I think a lot of people will be proven wrong with him. He's been quality for Everton and Belgium (in midfield). Give the lad time to settle in then judge him.

Good post and spot on.

Ive said before in previous posts - quite simply, they are a necessary evil. We seem to be on some quest to establish the moral high ground - all the while it puts us further and further behind our rivals on the pitch.

Dont worry lads, we can argue we are the moral champions of the league in true scouse logic.

The thing is our reticence to pay the agent fees and unreasonable transfer fees isn't due to some morality or sense of what should be but simply due to fact the bean counters will only allow (x) amount of money to be spent. This is all down to risk management of investment. We are a business whereas the likes of city/psg/chelsea are play things of owners who have unlimited funds.
The glazers will never allow us on the same financial footing as those clubs, we have to be smarter.
