A lot of bizarre downplaying of Carragher's act. If I was caught on camera spitting on a child, I would expect to be fired.

I can kinda understand why he was rehired. He's a good pundit, with decent chemistry with Neville, and the reality is that most pundits are either bland or a bit stupid .. or both. I wouldn't have let him return, but a decent argument can be made that people deserve a second chance if they are apologetic enough (obviously within reason) and it seems he genuinely is sorry.
The argument that 'eh, spitting isn't that bad anyway, terrorism is worse' is terrible though, it's a really nasty thing to do and he admitted as much.
Exactly. Bizarre mental gymnastics. As I said, I'm not sure he should have been rehired, which means I'm also not sure he shouldn't have been either. I'm divided on this issue. His conduct since the incident has helped his case. But not all of us would have gotten that second chance, and certainly no one should be downplaying the severity of his act.

This is bollocks. Regardless of our opinion of what he did, this is something that happened outside of work that he's not been convicted for. Just so happens he's in the public eye hence why people are saying he should be sacked.
Fact is, why would you sack someone for something that's not lead to a conviction?
If you worked in a job in which public perception was an important factor and a video emerged of you spitting at a teenage girl, you would be sacked in an instant. The only reason Carragher hasn't been is because he has a decent draw and is a good pundit. Your average guy would be considered disposable and not worth the trouble.

I truly believe he didn't want to spit on a 14 year old. Said his Sorry, got suspended and now back on . I think its fair . Truly foul to spit on someone but he was not aiming at that girl that much I do know .
The great thing about this incident is that he'll always be remembered for it, more so than any individual moment on a football pitch.

He was never getting sacked for this, he is too valuable to sky in being one of only two good pundits they have.
Personally i think the shame of having to live with what he done is punishment enough. He is going to get constant abuse off rival fans about it and he will know he can't do anything as a camera phone is never too far away.

I'd even say most employers wouldn't even know that a regular employee did such a thing unless they stumble upon it on YouTube, but why would you upload it in the first place if the offender isn't publicly known?
I’d say so, at the very least it also shows recklessness on the road. Entering into an argument via the car windows and then directing a full mouthful of spit means he wasn’t paying much attention to the road. Granted there might have been no one around but it still makes it even worse for me in the same way the guy filming is being a proper arsehole for using his phone while driving.

In the list of reprehensible and disgusting things you can do to another person...I would say spitting is quite low, underneath murder, rape, torture etc.
This incident is just a classic example of what society is like these days. Yes it was a stupid thing to do and pretty disgusting, but everyone has to make a point that they are outraged the most.
Well for me, murder, rape, torture etc would go into the unforgivable category. Not sure how people view the word “reprehensible” these days, but spitting is definitely in that category, that being it’s worthy of censure and condemnation.

That message being that either society will tolerate people of notoriety and fame behaving as such and giving them a pass for their behaviour, or saying no, this won’t do and we’re not having it.

Mate, there are a bunch of people who have lost their job or position while being unknown. Drunk uber doctor girl, X'd out girl who made out with a tree during Ultra Fest, there are countless examples of people who have lost their job due to social media and viral videos without the need to be a public figure.
Precisely. If you get caught on video doing something stupid which will make whoever you work for look bad, the likelihood is your employer will get rid of you to avoid the bad press. Carragher has stayed because he obviously has friends in the right places and is worth enough to them that usual rules don't apply. Can assure you that if any of us spat at a teenage girl in a car and a video of it went viral, we wouldn't get that kind of second chance.
Like others have said, it doesn't bother me too much because he's a genuinely decent pundit and seems apologetic, but let's not pretend what he did was normal or acceptable. He did something vile but has got a second chance, it's as simple as that.

It's called Image and Brand Reputation. Sometimes it doesn't make sense but companies will do whatever it takes to protect their brand. If they are presented with anything that is putting their brand name in a negative light they will distance themselves from it.
Happens all the time. There's loads of high profile examples. Some companies have the conviction to go with it. Others will bottle it. Gray and Keys were not so fortunate but then again misogyny cases are always that bit more emotive.

You’d expect someone in that position to ignore it and walk (or drive) on. Look at people like Katie Hopkins and Piers Morgan who get pure hate all day every day. Do they give one? Same for Jamie.
