He'd be a great winger in a 442. Not a likely approach from ETH though
He’s 10 times more useful than McT or Pogba these days
ma75 million
I'd rather spend it on players than let it go into the Glazers' bank account - and, anyway, some people here have always brought this up even way back when we could aford almost any player we wantedbecause we have a finite amount to spend on players and spunking it on garbage like Maguire and AWB et al is not gonna lead to success
No.. I'm making more of part of the point, Of course I agree we've made bad purchasesSame was said about Maguire. You are missing the point.
I think you are. People commenting about the price we pay, maybe not all, but many have a valid point. Why? Let's say we paid the 14m euros for Maguire, Leicester paid and and we bought him directly from Hull. The pressure to succeed, the attention to his performances would have been different than to the 80m CB Manchester United bought. It's been said million times, the expectations people build are different and therefor the scrutiny.No.. I'm making more of part of the point, Of course I agree we've made bad purchases
I think we need that as well. Our team lacks workrate, attitude and leadership, JWP offering in addition set pieces, crossing and some versatility as well. He would be our best and most consistent midfielder and a useful squad addition in the grand scheme of things, considering his ability to pass is good as well. This is not a case of adding 3-4 players and being good to go, we probably need to exchange half the squad in the next 3 years.
We need more than one midfielder. A CM and DM is a must this summer.
If we pay 75 million for JWP we may as well cancel next season.
please don't tell me what I'm saying... and there's a difference between saying "x or y is not worth the money we paid for him" and "I don't want other people to use their money to buy x or y". for starters one of those has evidence.I think you are. Sounds like a good player.Tom Cleverley but with Beckham‘s level of crossing, free kick and corner kick.
It might have come out that way, I did not mean any offense. I just think you missed the point. And no they are not using their money in fact. In reality nobody is worth the money being paid nowadays. But the money being paid directly influences imo what are we going to get in performances, therefor my comment about expectations. And yeah Cantona was a 4 decades ago. Nowadays fans should rightfully worry how the money is being spent.please don't tell me what I'm saying... and there's a difference between saying "x or y is not worth the money we paid for him" and "I don't want other people to use their money to buy x or y". for starters one of those has evidence.
if we listened to those moaning about what we pay, there would never have been a £1m footballer and we might not have bought a certain Eric Cantona, who many in the game saw as a trouble maker. there were those who thought the Bryan Robson fee in 1981 (that 1.5m is worth about £400m today) was crazy

We don’t want to carry on being a laughing stock by dropping 75m on a 27 year old. It’s not about what supposed level of player we can attract.Much better passer, much more consistent, more of a goal threat.
Also Ward-Prowse and Neves is the level United are at right now, not Tchouameni and Bellingham. Harsh reality but the club is a laughing stock with no CL football to offer.

Very clear many people haven’t watched him outside of the games vs United and some freekick highlights, he’s not a winger by any stretch. He’s a realistic signing in the mould of what we need, great work rate offensively and defensively, excellent on the ball, has the added bonus of his set pieces. He’s not the fastest player although he’s not slow i.e. Matic but is super vocal and organises that Soton team. £75m is a joke, anything under £50m would be good value for a player who would immediately improve us and would probably end up captain given our lack of leadership.
He’s not world class, he’s just a really solid 7/10 all round CM who grafts and has great technique.Exactly the types of signings Klopp started with, you have to bring the base level of the team up with these players before you then cherry pick 1-2 big world class signings.
All depends on the price. Not against the signing but I am for against it for stupid money.
For 35-40Million along with Eriksen on a free would be two good bits of business and be a very good start to the summer.
If we're taking 60 or 70 million for JWP then it's a firm no from me.

So much stock placed in CL football and not in the stature of the club. Maybe he should join Tottenham or Arsenal.
So you wouldn't want him for your own reasons but other people not wanting him is because they are anti English? There's a very real anti English agenda on this forum by many so it comes as no surprise to me that people don't want JWP.
I wouldn't mind him but the only issue is his price tag would put me off rather than his ability.

Or maybe it's because clubs needing a certain number of home grown players plus PL clubs being rich drives prices for English players to crazy levels for even medium level of quality. Most people were very much in favor of both Sancho and Grealish and that shows it's not about some hidden or overt anti English agenda but rather about price in relation to talent.Well there's plenty of people saying that they don't want a single more overpriced overrated English signing, so it's not exactly false.

If he was looking for a move, and with his reputation and form in the past few months drawing attention, signing this new contract extension may have been a poor move.If he hadn't signed that new contract at the beginning of the season he would be a very smart pick-up for a good price. But by signing that new contract he's basically priced himself out of a move as I doubt Southampton will accept any realistic figure.
A laughing stock of a club, oh do behave.Much better passer, much more consistent, more of a goal threat.

To be fair he has a point, we are beyond poorly run.A laughing stock of a club, oh do behave.
So, not Tom Cleverley.
