James Rodriguez

I think the brand is too popular regardless of what happens. Frankly it blows your mind when you hear and see that the club's popularity has spread to tiny villages in countries that don't even follow the game. But we're a brand first and foremost. And that's what hurts.

Couldn't agree more mate. It's galling to see the club name splashed over everything from airlines to bleedin' pot noodles.

A different aspect about this James transfer for me would be the fan reaction of letting Di Maria go in favour of the former. I mean Di Maria was on top of being one of their top peformer last season the match winner for the long awaited "Decima" in a match vs. the city rival. Normally the guy would be viewed as a legend by fans and seeing him depart in the next summer should enrage them. This is at least what would happen if I would put myself in their shoes.

lads we are both corporations. we just run the clubs differently. But the basis of any good run club is that the manager has complete control. At madrid that is not the case but they get by.

Makelele a perfect example during their succesful period

James is a good player but Madrid didn't need him at all. Too much money paid for him but it's Madrid. Moutinho and Toulalan were Monaco's best and most consistently player of last season.

So we're supposed to what..? Keep players that are not good enough..?

Again, Jese has long term injury.

Benzema plays more false 9 kind of role and is involved in creating and setting up Ronaldo and Bale. Morata can't offer what he does and the few minutes he did get last season he didn't manage to impress, quite the contrary. He's also useless on the wing. I for one am glad he's gone.

As for Di Maria, Perez wanted him gone last summer, and now Carlo is pushing hard for him to stay. I really don't see him staying. Not if any club us willing to offer 60 mil € for him.
James is the missing puzzle, the South American galactico that Perez wants. He will sell shirts and he fit's perfectly.

Perez does what he want's and Ancelotti was always the type to make the best with what he's got.

If I had to pick a replacement for Di Maria (the winger), James is a good choice for us.

I do think they are thinking ahead, ronaldo is 29, his injury's are at times taking its tole, if someone like Rodriguez comes on the market, go for him. But to be honest Madrid are this type of club if they miss out on him young, sooner or later they will get him, its just the way they are, ronaldo proved that

They seem to always sign the player that has a great world cup dont they?

2002 - Ronaldo
2006 - Canavarro
2010 - Ozil
2014 - Robben they already had, they got one of the germans already and JR was the other top performer available.

The only reason they are signing him is because Barcelona signed their own superstar in Suarez. That means Real need to respond with their own new shiny and more expensive toy. It's pathetic to be honest.

true. selling shirts and popularity.

If Ed was serious we'd be in for this lad, fact is though we're loathed to pay anything over 30m and that just won't cut it anymore

I genuinely didn't see Monaco once last season but I was listening to the radio the other day and some french football expert said Moutinho had a bit of a poor season. He said the French league is full of hatchet men and Moutinho couldn't hack it. He could obviously be talking bollocks as I didn't see them play but it's strange to see two complete contrast of opinions.

I've watched many of their games and Moutinho was good, one of their best players. Very versatile too.

Mata is a better number 10. James may be the darling of the world at the minute because he had a very good world cup, but he is not worth the 80m euros it would cost to get him by any stretch of the imagination.

We would be better off paying 2/3 of that for Reus or Di Maria, if we were looking for another attacking player.

i agree. if madrid want to blow that much and perhaps make their team less good, let them. Never distract your enemy when he is making a mistake

That and I reckon Bale is significantly better and will have a monster year next season.

James, Vidal and a proper centre-back and we'd be laughing. A muppet's dream come true and Woody would be seen as a hero. In reality however,we will sign none of them:lol:

We definitely don't need another no10, but I doubt anyone would complain if we signed him.....Although if we were to splash £70 odd million on a player, I would rather splash it on Marco Rues.

Seems an excessive fee for this guy, doubt he'll improve them anymore from last season team.

Strange club, just chopping, and changing of the sake of it, should have just stuck with what they had & they could have mopped up the lot this season.

We would be better off paying the same full 80m euros for Reus, since hes not another no 10 and is exactly what we need on the wings to make us complete

He can play winger, does for Monaco sometimes and can do it well.
He can play on the wings, but not as a winger. More like the role Iniesta plays for Barcelona on the left wing: a creative midfielder that cuts inside to find the strikers with through balls or just goes for the finish himself. That's what he did for FC Porto.

Which is also something every single one of our number 10s can do.

He'd be a waste of money for us. Not what we need at all.

It's not even about Woodward or do we need another #10, I think United would go for him IF he wanted to join us, but he said that he want's to play for Real Madrid over Barcelona and that he wants to play in Spain.. so I have a feeling that British clubs were given a hint that he doesn't want to go there...

I think he is not yet, but I think he will become a better player than any player we currently have apart from Januzaj ... Rooney and Mata are good, but if he playes and doesn't get injured he could be world's best #10 for years...

On a side note, I don't get players obsession to play in La Liga, it's more or less two team league where the rest are there to fill in the numbers, and both 'greats' but Real more than anything treat their players are highly prized trophy wives only to be replaced in a couple of seasons just for the sake of shirt sales and 'Galactico' signings...

I know, just saying he's capable of playing in that position and not just behind the striker.

Strange signing by Real though, they really don't need him.

1. Madrid and Barcelona are awesome places
2. They both pay shit loads of cash
3. They're both amongs the best two clubs in the world.
4. They're both in a Spanish speaking country and culture, which holds sway for players used to that lifestyle

Only Real Madrid could sign players like this and make you think they're completely stupid.
People said similar about Madrid when bale was signed last year and ozil was sold. During September and October people were adamant and very quick and happy to say that selling ozil was a mistake and that bale (who was injured at the time) was a bad signing and everytime Madrid drew or lost all that was said was that "Madrid miss ozil, wenger and levy are geniuses etc".
