Obviously we're not signing all three, but if given a choice of 2/3 which would you all prefer? Griezmann/James or Griezmann/Silva?

Silva and Griezmann both a couple of levels above James. James would be pointless. United need to step up from Mata/Mkhi and James is of their level.

Where does he fit if we are after Griezmann?

I don't think he does. If Griezmann has been signed, the priorities should be finding an LB to compete with Shaw and a CM/DM to make Fellaini a backup/tactical option when we play 4-3-3.

The LB will be replacing Shaw and providing competition for Darmian. Shaw has proven he can't stay fit and doesn't have the mentality a top footballer needs. A new environment would do him good

Griezmann and James can't be combined together in a same formation unless you want to play 4-2-3-1 with Griezmann a striker and James number 10, other than this it will be terrible.

Signing Silva with Griezmann should make us go for 4-3-3, signing him with James makes us go for 4-2-3-1. It depends on what Jose wants.

James is one of the specialist set piece taker which is ideal to what we need since our set piece takers this season have been awful and inconsistent.

It wasn't that long ago when this guy was considered to be the next big thing. Wonder if he could turn it around under Jose, he clearly has the talent.

What went wrong for him at Real, you always hear stories in the press about his poor attitude or that he just doesn't "fit in" at real, but nothing concrete. Any Real fans care to shed some light on this?

I always assumed it was more to do with the players in front of him (Modric, Bale, etc..) rather than his actual ability.

James had a very good first season at Real, and was arguably their most important player (except for Ronaldo of course). His problem has been that after Real realized that they needed to play Casemiro as a holding midfielder in order to get a balanced team, it was no longer a place for him in the starting 11. The front 5 of Kroos, Modric, Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema is of course rock solid, and playing without a proper number 10 leaves no room for James. For me, he would be a brilliant signing as our new number 10, but only if the Griezmann deal doesn't go through. That would leave James as a winger, a position that wouldn't suit him under Mourinho.

I think he was always a 2nd choice option for #10 role after Griezmann, since we are in CL we are likely to pursue Griezmann over him. Fwiw, I think James is a better player than Bernardo Silva for who whole CAF has a huge hard on.

Would still be very happy to have him. Post Griezmann.

Regardless of the Bernardo situation he remains a pointless option with a bad attitude. If we can get Griezmann we've got the player that makes the second man runs and scores goals, we need a quiick, skillfull attacker to add to the wide options, James isn't that.

If we buy Griezmann, which it looks like, James is rebundant. We need another wide man or another striker, depending on the situation what Mourinho plans.

Don't believe this at all. He runs the same area as Pogba during attack and they would both get into each others way. Grirzmann makes James even more so.

Would be happy to have Morata and James for De Gea.

I know those deals don't happen but if it was done unofficially, for us to get a good price for both of them and in turn we'd not stand in De Gea's way - I'd be happy.

I saw on the Sky Sports article about Rooney possibly leaving that they seem to think we want a CB, CM and a defender who can play LB and RB. Hope they're wrong as we'd be very light upfront.

How does Rooney leaving have any relevance to wanting players in those positions, seeing as Rooney doesn't play in any of those positions.

there is one player missing, a striker or winger. The guys saying we didnt buy Bernardo because we dont need him but a proper wide men are wrong, because we wont get the top quality ones (Bale, Dembele), neither do we seem to be interested in good ones (Costa, Mahrez). Silva would have been a gettable top class player, that operates on the wing.

The first line of the post quoted below was the point I was trying to make.

Exactly, couldn't agree more. Funny that people aren't bothered by City signing Silva as long as we buy Griezmann, as if to say he'll create and rack up all the goals we need to elevate us to the next level.

With Rooney likely to leave and Ibrahimovics future up in the air it'd leave us with Rashford & Martial who can play ST and Grizemann as a CF (if we go on to sign him), then it leaves the LW spot wide open and that's one of the positions which isn't our strong point already.

To be honest I don't think I've ever seen the Caf less interested in a transfer.
 You are right. To be honest I didn´t expect City signing Silva so quick. I think that most of times the press don´t have idea. Luckily for you Inter might be interested

Sport Italia are saying James to Inter but I've seen Di Marzio linking Di Maria with Inter yesterday. I doubt they'll be signing both of them.

Still doesn't explain why Isco was preferred over him when Bale was injured.

He's shit.

Funnily enough I was just thinking the exact same thing there.

Yes, this is how it works. Either you play in front of Bale, Ronaldo or Isco, or you are absolute shit. Can't you see that Isco is also a brilliant footballer, and is more comfortable playing as a winger than James? Also, Isco is a spanish player that is likely to be a long term starter for Real, and they need to play him so that he can develop and not want to leave. James on the other hand is a player that they have paid big money for, and they will most likely want to get most of their money back as he has turned out not to be a very important player for them.

Sport italia doesn't seem to be a trustful source tbh.

I still want him but don't know if we'll bring him with Griezmann or only one of them. Both can work together in the same formation and both will give us multiple goals and assists that we need.
