Ah, the old 'we're going to buy this player in January' crap is starting already, well sure as hell we aren't buying him in January, and I doubt there's one fan left that buys this sort of rubbish anymore.

Anyone remembers Gareth Southgate leaving this guy at home and picking Jesse Lingard for the nations cup? And Lingard fanboys still using how "managers keep picking good old Jesse" excuse for our youngster. The difference is night and day. This guy would do great for us.

Played half a season on loan at Aberdeen when at Norwich, cracking player and scored a screamer of a free kick against Rangers. We had Christie from Celtic on loan at the same time in depth manager tried put him on the right wing. Could tell there is a quality player there. Correct manager and will be a very quality footballer at a high standard

Think we ought to go for the manager as well if Ole fecks up end of the season. Would have won Liverpool the league if it hadnt have been for slippy G

By January ole's situation will be so unstable that the club won't trust him with a single penny. The guy will probably be sacked by the end of the season with the new manager not spending too much so he can give his new players the benefit of the doubt

So sack him but then not backing the new manager.

Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, ...us!

We're becoming experts in pinning the blame on the manager including our lack of investment. I mean, we all heard how Ole changed his tune from the survival of the fittest to giving the kids a try. Ah kids, how many minutes of play have the likes of Greenwood, Gomes and Chong played? They were supposed to be the reason why we didn't bought players this year.

It’s been 3 games...

Still when things got real we've reverted to the same old faces, people like Jesse Lingard for example.
I agree, it will be interesting how he handles Lingard, after serving up dross in every game he’s played in and if Brandon will get an opportunity with shaw potentially out. I fully expect Gomes, Chong, Greenwood to start when europa/cup games come around.

We’ll want to cop on soon if we want to have a chance of signing him. He won’t leave in January anyway, that is certain.

The hope is that the club now have a ethos around transfer dealings and although Ole would have a say I believe the club has decided they now have a set transfer policy regardless of who the manager is. Signing Maddison would match the same ethos based on our summer buys. So would Sancho for that matter and I think if we can get both of these guys it would make a massive difference moving the team forward. These two would plug the two biggest holes in our team.

We cant change the team in one transfer window but if get these two are in the next couple of windows the club as a whole is doing the right thing in my opinion regardless of who the manger is.

Would you prefer Maddison over Havertz or even Eriksen for free?

Who do you rate as the best CAM?

Obviously Eriksen on a free would be the best case scenario for United here, but is unlikely to happen.

Havertz I think is more talented than Maddison and will end up a better player, but may be Bayern bound eventually.

Maddison seems the most obtainable in terms of likelihood of wanting to play for United, but Leicester will undoubtedly start the bidding at £100m and need negotiating south of there, which could prove difficult given how the Maguire talks went.

If kids are only good to play against team from obscure leagues that can even make a non player like Fred look good then we should have bought first team players like this Maddison dude, we should have gotten rid of all the tripe (Jesse, Mata, Fred, Matic, the list go on and on) and we should have played the kids as squad players instead. This team doesn't need more squad level players. We need people to come in and inject quality now.

I know that sounds so anti academy but first team level players is exactly what we need mate. Our RW is non existent, Rashford should be squad player level rather then a key first team player and we only have Pogba as a WC midfielder. So lets stop day dreaming about how Chong will one day be the next Cristiano Ronaldo and how Jadon will be thrilled to join us once we make it to top 4 and lets build a team which can actually make it to top 4.

Until we bring in a top quality DOF then we'll be sticking to the whims of the manager who will be calling the shots regarding transfers. That's how United had been working in the past 30 years or so.

Hence why we need a top quality DOF who shares the club's principles. Once that is on board he'll bring in the manager who shares that ethos. In turn they will bring in the players who fit in those principles. I dare to say that rather then a DOF we should aim to split football from business, we should push Woody to take care of the latter and we should bring someone who actually knows United and football as CEO. You might not know but a certain Van Der Sar is doing fairly well in the job at Ajax.

So you would have VDS as CEO, Campos as DOF, Mitchell as head of recruitment and Ole as manager. Hopefully these guys will, on one hand, support Ole on his insistence in having young players but on the other hand introduce him to the obscure world outside the EPL. Believe it or not there's quite some talent out of the UK as well.

I can see Maddison being a similar cost to Maguire. I think Leicester took us to the cleaners because they knew Maguire was our only target/option whereas there's a few more midfielders around.

I'd absolutely love Maddison and Sancho in next summer. Hopefully we go all out and don't leave it late. Also hoping we don't have too much competition too because it could be a hard sell if we miss top four again.

The fact people are even speculating about us getting both Maddison & Sancho next season shows people really haven’t learnt their lesson.

These 2 are sir Alex type signings; we sell our No.9 to finance the purchase of a centre back.

Neither will sign for us. I wonder what they’ll brief the press next season.

Can see a scenario where he stays many years at Leicester like Vardy. Not like they are a bottom of the table club, they have clear potential to even challenge for top four in a few years.

Use player to reduce the fee.

Leicester will probably ask us 80M minimum for him.

We should add Jones or Smalling in the transfer, but we need this type of player if we want to have one day a chance to win a match again.

Is it wise to blow another 80m on 1 player considering we're hardly spending any dosh at all?

Still when things got real we've reverted to the same old faces, people like Jesse Lingard for example.

You can't move everyone out in one go.

He's already removed Jones, Smalling, Young and Matic from being starters.

A few people seem to think Lingard is the root of all our problems.

Change him for Mata, and chances are we're a bit worse if anything.

No I think lack of investment which lead to the likes of lingard becoming first teamers is

Leicester is going to ask a lot of money for Maddison. There are better attacking midfielders that could be available next summer. If we are going to end up paying around 100m for a No.10, then Havertz could be a better alternative.

Eriksen for free would be ideal.

This was discussed in the Maguire trade scenario. I could be completely wrong but i don't see either player being of any use to Leicester. We are a club aiming for top six and neither Jones or Smalling are top six players as I'm sure you all know.

Nothing will get in our way of getting the young, British and hungry first 11 Ole craves.
Dont worry, we have an 85m offer ready after spending the first 2 months of the window refusing to pay the 80m Leicester want.

Seriously though, my thoughts exactly, why any club in the top half would you want either is beyond me. Especially with the wages they would command.

I’ve read now maybe a million posts from you over a period of time, every single one a complaint. Have you considered taking a long brake from football? It might make your life less dark and miserable.

I generally enjoy following United these days, but I’m considering a break from this forum for much the same reason.

Sancho is rated at 100-120m or more because of his new contract, and Madders wont move for under 50m imo, they signed him for 20m.

Maddison is currently Leicester best player, and was their player of season last season, you think they would be happy to sell him for 50m? I think their asking price would be between 80m-90m again, they don’t really need to sell him for more money.

Sancho - 120m or more
Maddison - 80m or more

It will take us at least 200m to get them both.

If I could I would but United are too much in my heart. I promised myself not to watch many games this year but here I am moving holidays around so I don't miss games.

I don't understand why you enjoy following United at the moment. Do you love seeing the team decline, united managers ruining their career here and top players leaving or wanting to leave because we are basically shit?

Sancho is a generational talent. Madisson is just one of many dozens of attacking midfielders, there are players who are much better than Madisson. We’d rather stop this obsession with British nationals as transfer targets and use quality as criterion

No problem. We ll sell Pogba for 150 m

Don't disagree about Sancho being a fantastic talent, but I feel like your argument is diminished somewhat by the fact that Sancho is also British. Works both ways; if Maddison was playing for Dortmund instead of Leicester I feel like some people would covet him more. He's a fantastic player, and is league proven and definitely deserves to be a target.

Personally I'd love for us to sign both these lads, but doubt that will happen.

There is hardly a better player in a position Sancho plays, and coupled with his young age, it’s difficult to come up with a better target (disregarding price). So it’s irrelevant whether he is British or not - he is the best we can get.

With Madisson, it’s another story - he is definitely not the best CAM money can buy, not even close to this level. So there is a big difference.

P.S. that said, Madisson would undoubtly be a big upgrade over what we have NOW.

You use 'British' as a stick to beat players with that you deem 'unworthy', but ignore nationality for players you like? Not sure what nationality has to do with *anything* personally. Either a player would improve the team, or they wouldn't. Who cares where they come from?

I agree 100%. Please convey this message across to OGS - that is HIM who doesn’t even consider targets who are not British. I, for one, would be happy with players of whatever nationality if they play good football and fit into the squad

So, you'd be happy to sign Maddison then? Good. Glad that's settled.
