I don't think we ever valued him at mere 60M, especially this summer. We wouldn't have let him go anyway, at any cost, as there is currently no real back-up for him. If there's no target in sight next summer, you won't get him. If he wants to go, that is. We only sold you Maguire because we already had enough cover for him (Benkovic and Soyuncu both bought in the summer 2018. The latter cost 19M and is filling Harry's gap very nicely).
There's something some of you must understand about us, if we don't want to sell, we just won't or you'll have to pay an absurd price. We're well run, have (enough) money, a good manager, an excellent scouting department and a very coherent long-term strategy, based on youth and smart buys, all backed-up by the board and the owners. We're finishing to build one of the best training grounds in the country and a stadium extension is in the plans.
Our plan is to try to challenge regularly for the top 6, something we could achieve in the next 5-6 years or so, if we keep on this path. Maddison is part of this plan, so I highly doubt we'd let him go next summer, let alone in January. You might find someone else anyway.
Don't take this personally mate, but fan of every club outside the top 6 seems to think they are building a project and won't sell unless they want to. It's been going on for years. Yet at the end of the day, when a big club comes calling, sooner or later that player ends up getting sold.
Of course, not saying necessarily Maddison will come to Utd, but if he keeps up his good play and a top club wants him, he'll ultimately end up going.
He will cost us 90/100 million. Leicester won't let him go for anything less.
Agree, he will cost mega money next summer. But what a talent he looks. Pogba will be off though so we'll have plenty of cash.

He would replace Lingard in this system. Pogba plays at the base of midfield so would be better replaced a real deep lying playmaker. Maddison is not that player.
They're diffeent players. But with the Pogba cash we could bring in Maddison and another midfielder who plays deeper.
So in the current Ole system, Maddison replaced Lingard and another midfielder replaced Pogba.
And yet I have absolutely no doubt he’d be a far better signing for us then Pogba has been.
Honestly I’m not sure on Maddison I think he is a good player I’m just not sure he is the level we want/need or will be a huge impact. (saying that sure he’d do better than Lingard) maybe it’s because I’m all in on wanting Havertz but I really just don’t see Maddison as a player that has that something extra the likes of your Silva’s, KDB and the likes have.
Maybe I need to lower my standards and come to terms with we probably aren’t going to get the Havertz, Aouar’s and that of the world so Maddison although undoubtedly going to cost top dollar maybe isn’t as talented as some of those options but is still a really good player.

We could 100% get Aouar but he doesn't even do better numbers than Maddison playing for one of the best teams in a markedly weaker league.
One spends most of his time as a second striker or as a central attacking midfielder and the other as a central midfielder or even a defensive midfielder so that would account for stats.
I think last year Aouar had more goals and assists as well but I don’t know about the passing stats on chances created and all that.

Saying that Maddison is played as a second striker just isn't true either.
If you consider Maddison playing a bit further forward then their stats are very similar in terms of output only Aouar was playing the 6th ranked European league for the team that finished 3rd and Maddison playing in the 1st ranked European league for the team that finished 9th.
Aouar also plays for arguably the 2nd best French team, where as Maddison is at a top 8 club.
All good, mate. Of course he'll go at some point if he keeps playing like that, I get that, but every club has to let go of their players. Hell, even Liverpool parted ways with Coutinho and Barca could not hold on Neymar. If Real Madrid turn up with a big offer, chances are real that Pogba will go. Point is, if Maddison goes, that will be on our terms, when we decide that the moment and the price are right. Just like Mahrez or Maguire for example.
I was just referring to the mindset of some, thinking that we're a supermarket where you just need to show up and get the player, at any time and on a discount. There's a real will and ambition shown by the board and all the signs point to it. Whether it will be achieved remains to be seen, but we can be optimistic at the moment.

Super happy with Maddison getting the England call up hopefully he's on the pitch. If he keeps playing at his current level it feels inevitable he will leave. Feel a little sad that as Leicester genuinely try to push into that top 6 our best players will continually be plucked but that's football.

I took my stats from transfer market and it tells me Aouar got 7 goals and 8 assists. 11 assists if you want to include champions league but yeah he did it in a much deeper role playing in an inferior league.
They both play in different positions anyway as I said because Maddison has played as a SS as he did it against us and many other times and Aouar plays CM or DM. If Pogba was to go I’d rather get Aouar to fill his role and then someone along side him and if I had my way Havertz over Maddison playing in Lingard current role.
Havertz 17 goals 4 assists last year in the league. From say a similar position to Maddison at 2-3 years younger.
Transfermarkt is crap on assists, they're too generous. Whoscored is a better measure.
Aouar beats Maddison on defensive work but not on holding on to the ball or creatively, overall I'd say their output is equal only Maddison operates at a higher level and in a weaker side. Havertz got 20 goals and assists last season and Maddison 14. Maddison creates a lot more chances than him, again in a better league. Havertz is more what a second striker looks like.
It will be interesting to see how these three progress this season.

We keep hearing how, once we, get rid of forei erm mercenaries we'll be great again. Yet we're still stuck in shit despite our pool of hardworking & hungry British players who understand the club keep on getting bigger. Meanwhile the only player we've got whose worth throwing serious money at is Pogba (our top scorer and assist man) and Shitty's foreign legion keep winning.
Pogba will probably cost Real 120-140m max. If we spend 100m on Maddison then there's not much left for a top player who can play in a deeper role

I’m not sure I would say Lyon is a better team by the way. They are actually quite a poor outfit just in certain games they could turn it on. Honestly if you watched them they were ridiculous and at times would either just leave Ndombele or Aouar in midfield with no one near them. Honestly never seen anything like it. Gave PSG an awesome game playing Suicide football.
Pogba will only have one year left in his contract next summer and I would have a hard time to believe Real Madrid will pay more than the going rate of Hazard this summer plus inflation. Man Utd is the richest club in the world, there is no need to worry about "lack of fund".

Well I do worry since our financial muscle has gone missing for the past two summer windows. In fact we started this season with no quality RW, no cover for Rashford upfront and a ridiculously weak CM. When you also take in equation that
a- Pogba will probably leave, on a fee which will be far less then we expect
b- DDG has yet to sign a new contract
c- Players such as Matic, Young and Mata will need to be replaces
Then there's a hell of a rebuilding that needs to be done.
Oh well we can still start the season displaying our great talent at the youth academy only for them to go back to the academy once preseason is over. That's a technique we're quite good at using.

I very much doubt we'll get 150m and if we do get that money then expect the likes of Leicester to take us to the cleaners on whoever player we aim to replace Pogba with. Also there's no way Leicester will dismantle their midfield at one go. That only happens in football manager or with Manchester United.
We should have replaced Pogba (and probably Matic as well) this summer. That would have allowed the new players time for them to settle down and would have avoided clubs taking us to the cleaners as we desperately search for their replacement.
I like Maddison as a player but the way Leicester squeezed 80m for a 60m worth Maguire makes me wonder how much more will Maddison cost?
I don't think anybody expects that Maddison will be sold on the cheap. He'll go for an exorbitant amount, no question about that. But I don't understand what you mean when the club decides the moment is right. If next summer, say Utd or City or the scouse come with a 80-90 million offer and Maddison wants to leave, Leicester will have to accept. The only way Maddison has any incentive to stay at Leicester at that point is if you guys finish in the top 6 this season. It's possible of course, but not very likely.
The thing is for clubs like Leicester or Everton, that players with really top quality ( or at least the potential to become top quality) will only come here if you act as a stepping stone and allow them to move on in 2-3 years. If you don't let them move on, then other top young prospects might think twice about coming here. It's a double edged sword in that you need to get in Europe regularly to keep top players but you need top players to stay to get in Europe.
Until you manage to do what Spurs did and establish themselves as a European regular, most top prospects will regard Leicester as a stepping stone.
You just know this guy will be who the club are after. And we are going to get put through the ringer again on the fee. Pogba will move for big money and LC will know we are flush with cash. Young, English, will be around the 80million mark again.
Fits Ole's profile for what he is looking for. Don't get me wrong I think he is a tidy player, and at 22 a lot of room to grow his game.
I'd imagine a similar fee, perhaps 10m more, unless the market takes another spike up next summer.
I think he will be pogbas replacement and they would cost about the same. 90-100 million pound.
