James Garner will be in United's first team squad next season, no doubt at all.
I have, he looks really good but he's not the same type of player as Fred at all.
Same position but not the same role.Neither was Carrick. But they played the same position

He was till they changed managers. Hence the move to forest which is paying off incredibly. Id agree that another year on loan would be better. I'd keep him at forest, they play him to his strengths and he shines there. What better place to gain more first team experience. Send him back for a full season there then integrate him the year after.Garner couldn't get into the Watford squad earlier on in the season, have some patience.
Ive not watched him. You think he’s good enough/ ready? What do Forest fans think of him?
Except plenty of players played the Fred role? Phil Jones, John O'Shea, Fletcher, Park Ji Sung, and the list goes on and on... but the most obvious example being Keane (similar in role not quality) next to Scholes. Why are you talking shit?Nobody played the same role as Fred, because when you have Carrick you dont need it. Same thing with Garner
I've watched 3 full games since he's moved to Forest. He's been easily their best player on the ball, physically looks very capable and seems to have good positional sense. The one negative I've noticed when he's been playing is that he doesn't get on the ball as much as I'd like him to. I've seen situations where his partner is coming under pressure from a couple of players but he doesn't move towards the ball and create a passing option. He's showing very good signs like awareness, passing, and quick thinking but most of the users react to some youtube highlights of his best moments. Of course he'll look good.
I'd be more interested in a detailed opinion from someone that actually watched full games since he moved there.

Keane played a similar role to Fred, why are being obtuse?Keane played the same role as Carrick. Why are you making things up?

Well said. He needs another season out on loan, it's doing him no harm at Forest so another season there would be great.Garner couldn't get into the Watford squad earlier on in the season, have some patience.

Keane and Carrick were very different players that overlapped in their roles for their teams.
It is certainly not a nonsense, Garner is very well rounded player already, a classic MUFC midfielder if you asked me, the question is wheather he can transform it into top flight, and so far he seems to be taking the step we wanted him to make. One more season and he's ready. McTominay has done extremely well compared to how extremely limited he is. Fletcher as a lazy comaprison on this forum, possibly because they are Scotish and started underrated in the first team. One reached absolute top as a DM/CM in the league/ in Europe second has done ever so well to be selected by manager but is nothing but an average player who more he's a fringe player the sooner we'll move back to the every best team in the country or the world. He's a player when he moves on will play in one of the lower half teams and won't be much noticed. But yeah he's done well and added some goals but for a player who can't defend it's not exactly great return if we take the offensive involvement is his best contribution.I love Garner but your assessment is nonsense until we see him vs Premier league players. I genuinely hope he can reach his potential.
You are also vastly underrating McTominay. I get it, I believe there are better out there but I love the boy and think he adds a lot to this squad. Its interesting you compare him to Fletcher, considering Scott has scored more goals this season than Darren ever did in any campaign. Season isn't even over!
It's about time that we've had a loan player do wellDelighted for him. This is the way a loan needs to start. Sounds like he'll be a fixture.

he’s forming into a very similar player like Carrick, but he’s got a better shot.Is this lad going to turn into my dream DM or what? Haven’t seen anything of him on loan, in the very limited first team appearances he had for us I wasn’t particularly impressed but that’s harsh in such a small snapshot of performances and the pressure that comes with it.
Would be brilliant if he becomes first team quality in that DM role. We still need to strengthen there this summer imo regardless.

I do think we’d be smart getting him around the squad next year, then if pogba does move on he’d be a ready made replacement.

younger carrick used to be more mobile and got forward more also, but obviously as he got older and slowed down became more of a sitter - garner will probably be like that too although have the shooting threat from the edge of the box. Also seems better at getting into attacking positions for the shot. While obvioiusly at his age and experience we can expect him not to be as good with his defensive positioning but that will come.

He reminds me the most of Kroos in style, if he can be even half the player he is we’ve got a player.
We can only speculate but I think it would be too lightweight. Pogba tends to anarchy and it could be difficult for Garner to cover for him. Pogba would have to sacrifice part of his game to make it work, but who knows.Would a midfield trio of Garner-Pogba-Bruno work?
Limited player but playing well. Sounds great, if he’s anywhere near as good as Carrick that would be awesome.he’s forming into a very similar player like Carrick, but he’s got a better shot.

I know, Fred is shit.I have, he looks really good but he's not the same type of player as Fred at all.
Yawn.I know, Fred is shit.
He's really not shit though. He can certainly be frustrating, he's a good player, no doubt about it.I know, Fred is shit.
A full season at Forest would be a bit depressing with all due respect to them. It's apparent that he's got enough at that level, just give the kid a tougher challenge if possible to see how he deals with it.
There's a risk involved compared to staying there, but if United is the final destination he can't spend too long in the comfort zone, playing for a mid-low table team in the Championship.
In any case I'd take whatever he decides to do, but I'd like to see a step forward this summer. For United it's still early in my opinion.
