Everton favourites for a permanent deal. Haven't seen a thread on this. Would make sense as we have spent a ton.

Good fee for someone who's never played PL football.

You would expect a sell on or buy back clause also.

Interesting that we're trying to recoup some cash at the close of the window, last minute approach for a RB or ST?

What fee is being suggested?

Gotta say, I'm disappointed he hasn't been given any game time. Surly he deserves a chance as a sub instead of Scott?

Hopefully there's a buyback clause just in case, but haven't been convinced he could make the step up to the level we require. Good luck to him.

£14m is the offer.

He probably wants first team football and we can't offer him more than 10 games from the bench at this point. You can't just walk into a United side unless you have a CV like Casemiro. He still has a lot to prove at this level.

Add a first option buy-back in there and I can live with it.

We can easily sell him. If it happens there are minutes for a young CM, Iqbal may be given those

I think he and Gana would be good additions. Onana - Garner - Iwobi or Onana - Gana - Iwobi offers us good options and dynanism.

Onana - Garner - Gueye would be very balanced IMO. Garner does his best work going forward.

Are our kids on stupid wages or something? If not, why are they so poorly valued? £14m? Every half decent PL club discards young midfield talent for £20m-£30m these days; why is the number so low? Or is he close to the end of his contract?

How much would you value Gallagher?

The time to sell him would've been earlier in the summer I think. If a player can't make the squad/bench then questions start being asked about their desirability/attitude/ability and their value tanks.

The best time to sell is when other clubs think you'd like to keep them, but the offer has to be too good to turn down. We're actively looking to get rid now to balance the books

For forest, where he's played his best football, he was the holder more often than not as Yates would often get forward. Both were hard working and intelligent enough to cover for the other though. Garner's direct passing worked well for them in utilising Johnson's pace, and I can see the same with Gordon and Gray.

He's a versatile player because he's technically excellent and intelligent. Hope we have a buy back option in place.

I’m surprised the price is so low. I thought after back to back successful seasons with Forest, he’d be able to fetch at least £20m.

I think that's theoretically true, but teams like Liverpool, Chelsea and City manage to get really good fees for players who clearly won't make it at those clubs and it throws me that we're so far off the pace with that. £14m is pitiful unless he's got less than 2yrs left on his contract, or we're inserting a buyback - legitimately parachute club prices.

Are you referring to Conor Gallagher? If yes, I'd not want my club selling him until dead certain he won't make it.

We need a buy back or sell on %, this guy could genuinely go on to be a decent squad player and for me has a higher ceiling than Mctominay due to his set piece delivery - Madness for me

Sometimes I think we enjoy selling our players for pennies. Bring in whoever works the sales at Chelsea/Liverpool/City.

We need physicality and non-passiveness, he is as passive as Scott and not physical at all for the 6.
Think we should have loaned him though and then sold him after a season to boost his fee

As per others, include a buyback. £30m is fine, they'd double their money.

Think United will regret it otherwise, he'll be a very good player and i'm surprised because we don't have a lot of technically gifted midfielders.

I think it must be salary related. The squad players here must be on too much for what the squad players/new signings for their stature would get at the clubs who want them. RE Contract: Garner has 2 years left with the option for 1 more.

City sold Romeo Lavia who is 18 and hadn’t played a single senior game for City for about the same price that Garner’s fetching. Liverpool sold Neco Williams who had half a season at Champ level last year for 18m. Chelsea are also pretty good at getting fees for their youth players too.

The only time we ever get good money for a transfer is when the player seems like he’d be on the same sort of salary that the club in question see the players status as similar to what it is here. Dan James to Leeds was a key signing for Bielsa’s philosophy, so we got nearly 30m for him. Lukaku was Inter’s main man, so we got nearly 70m for him. Daley Blind was going back to a club who knew what they wanted, so we nearly broke even on him. Otherwise, we kind of either accept a lowball offer/loan until that players contract just expires and they can move on.

Haven't kept up with Everton much of late - what's happened to Doucoure and Allan form wise?

If there’s no buy-back, it’s completely crazy. We will then end up spending 40m on some squad player in 1/2 years time whilst Garner is worth 60m. What is going on with this transfer?

We've got serious problems with overpaying wages from the ground up if that's the case. I honestly thought that affliction only related to our first squad.

At least it makes sense now because you've got a headscratcher when someone with Garner's ability is going for such a terrible fee relative to the market.

Goodness, Woodward and co. have a lot to answer for.

Doucoure is injured. Allan is unfit but he's a shadow of the man he was at Napoli. Feels like age has caught up with him.

Decent squad player is not good enough for us, unfortunately. We had a lot of such players over the last years - and what did we achieve? Players should be way better than “decent” to be in the squad

I've seen a lot of him over the years at Utd, Watford and Forest and a fee of below £20mil doesn't surprise me. Perhaps £14mil up front with potentially rising to £20mil if he is a success and starts loads of games for them across his contract would be alright. But he's simply not that good. Games pass him by far too easily for a central midfielder. Include a buy-back clause if you can, because you might as well, but it won't get used.

He was decent at Forest but not one of their stand-out players. There's a reason why a number of PL clubs were clamouring to sign Djed Spence after his time there but not many are bothered about Garner. Even Forest haven't seemed that bothered about trying to sign him again. Remarkably the mooted fee for Garner still seems similar to Spence despite the latter appearing a better prospect. Garner hasn't impressed as much as the likes of Gallagher had in their Championship loans either.

He'll never usurp McTominay from the Utd side, however much many may wish for it to be the case. His set-piece delivery is fine but not fantastic - he's not got a James Ward-Prowse level of talent for it where you can afford for him to be a bit of a passenger at times in open play because of the clear added value his set-pieces bring.

Even within Utd's academy Mainoo and Iqbal will soon overtake him in the CM pecking order as they seem better prospects.

Agreed but I would ship Mctominay out and replace him with Garner who is younger with more potential and has other weapons in his arsenal

It’s up to ten Hag now. From the looks of it he thinks that these “other weapons” are better elsewhere (Iqbal). Then again, we need to start selling players for money, it’s unsustainable without. If it’s a decent player - fine, fee may also be decent. And then we reinvest
