I've watched him lots of times over the last 2 seasons, I'm not telling myself anything, I'm telling you.
If he hasn’t seen it, must be because it isn’t there, ergo you must be hallucinating.

it would be ideal if he could have a full season in the prem on loan now
but unless we do something amazing in the transfer market, we're gonna need him just for the numbers it seems
I don't see that we need numbers unless we don't sign a DM. McT as backup DM, Fred, Bruno as first choice, Donny as wherever Donny plays passably, Mejbri as 6th midfielder and possibly a few games for some of the even younger ones from time to time as well. What we're short of is quality when you look at that list. But even then, if the DM is good it could still be a pretty strong midfield.
And I agree. Garner should be loaned out to Forrest again. But if we are going to play Fred, McT and Hannibal he should definitely be included.Henning Berg was co commentating the game here in Norway.
When asked if Gardner could to a job for United next season he said, "To be honest, no. If United want to be top four and more they need to aim higher"
He's had good moments but I think he's not ready yet. Neither is Djed Spence imo.
that doesn't sound too good really
I think ETH will want two new midfielders in, hopefully he gets them

Allow him stay with Forest for another year, United should send Hannibal, Tuanzebe, Elanga and maybe even Amad there too.
£50m buyback?! That's more than fecking Fred cost and he was massively overpriced.
Is there a loan limit? Not allowed.
The issue is that Forest just don’t play the style of football that suits Garner. They tend to play the ball long and skip the midfield altogether. They rarely try playing the ball from back to front using the midfield to bring it forward.People who watched the game yesterday and who understand football will gather the conclusion James Garner is a decent young player but he is no first team starter.
Watched him come through youth team and u23 but whilst he has a goal in him he doesn't affect games enough at the moment.
Wound me up seeing some of the news articles after game yesterday..
" Garner shows ETH exactly what utd are missing " "majestic loaner the difference" etc etc
I would re-loan or try to get 30mill now
Nahh, I can only assume he hasn't watched him very much.If he hasn’t seen it, must be because it isn’t there, ergo you must be hallucinating.
He seems to have morphed into a defensive midfielder .. I thought he had great mid range pass when he played for us first but was pretty average at everything else. My hope at that time was that he'd become a Carrick like playmaker if he developed.
I don't think he has. If anything I think he's morphed into a more attacking player since he was in the academy. Which is partly why I think he'll find it difficult at United.

ThisIt’s simple, bring him back for preseason where Ten Hag can have a look at him and make a decision.
I still think he would be brilliant in a double pivot. This
Great post. People in this thread writing him off already. 21 years old for a CM is baby years, he has plenty of time to improve. He’s done great so far. He's a nice player. Positionally very sound - he is always exactly where you expect and want him to be on the pitch. He was instrumental in the goal and also made a nice tackle in his own box to squash a dangerous situation. Passing wise kept it simple for the most part. but this was a final so to be expected. He kept them ticking over and was arguably MOM.
United quality? Hard to tell. When a player like Spence is being linked with everyone, and Garner looked more impressive than he did, it's possible that we are expecting too much from him. There's no reason at all that he couldn't evolve to the same level that Carrick did.

They do however also rely on set pieces which is where he is a big threat, something we tend not to have at United currently.
I’d like to see him get a full preseason at us so ETH can get a feel for him, then make the decision on a loan or not. I imagine Forest will be more than happy to take him again, but a loan to a side who play a more suited style might be more beneficial.
Absolutely on the money regarding Garner, I can't believe some people in here are trying to claim he hasn't got a good passing range or vision.I’m a Forest supporter and had to respond to this because I think it’s a mischaracterisation of the way we play. You’re making us sound like a long ball side!
I would say that aside from Swansea - who take it to the extreme - there are few other sides in the Championship this season who‘ve played out from the back as much as Forest do. Samba, our keeper, is good in possession and our three centre halves are all encouraged to bring the ball into midfield by Cooper.
Where you may have a point is that we progress play a lot down the flanks, especially the right, because Spence and Johnson have been so threatening and productive this season. We’re not a side that seeks to dominate possession in the centre of midfield and play quite effectively on the counter attack, but that doesn’t mean that we bypass midfield entirely.
You have to also remember that the Championship is super competitive and demanding, so the composure can quickly go out of games. Maybe you’ve watched us on occasions when the game has got ragged, like the final, but at our best we’ve been a good side to watch and play in a way that it’s in keeping with the best Forest teams in our history (Carey, Clough, Clark, Hart - all passing sides).
I think it’s a loan that’s worked for all parties - Forest, United, Garner. If it was such a stylistic mismatch, I don’t think Garner would be happy, and it’s clear from interviews and reaction at the end yesterday that he’s loved being with us.
My own observation of Garner is that he’s a great young player, with lovely eye for a pass and superb set piece delivery, but he’s still developing, and not yet at a point where he’s imposing himself on games consistently - but that’s not harsh criticism because he’s been a good performer for us. I think he needs 30 plus games in the Premier League next season to get a true sense of his ceiling.
I think it makes sense for your new manager to assess him over the summer and probably send him out on loan again. Forest would love to have him back and I’m pretty sure he’d be happy to go back to Forest, if his prospects for game time at United are limited.
This a great idea. Send all our players to Forest so we can sign all Ajax’s. Can’t see who would object to that!Allow him stay with Forest for another year, United should send Hannibal, Tuanzebe, Elanga and maybe even Amad there too.

For me, he needs to stay. I don't think he should be a starter every game, but I think he should be playing 30 to 40 games next season, mostly from the bench with some EPL starts and Europe League for sure. He needs to integrate into the squad, he definitely has the talent, in my view. I think he is miles ahead of Mctominay when comparing them both at 21 and with more experience in games and minutes, he is easily better. A players ceiling is important to understand and whilst many things will impact it, on paper, right here and now, Garner wins everyday for me. He has to stay, I hope he is our future captain. Yes I am bias, I have had faith in this guy foe a while now, the Forrst loan was perfect for him. He led a team of men.
