Would be an interesting poll which one of the two people would prefer. I think Memphis has the bigger peak potential on most days but Zaha knows the league and club better and *appears* to be less injury prone. Zaha is more explosive too so id probably prefer him over Memphis. Despite the fact i never quite understood why we got rid of the latter so soon.
Sign Brooks and then spunk the rest on a LB and CB.

To be fair, once you get beyond Sancho, it becomes harder to sign a player that will dislodge Greenwood on last season’s form. At that point, signing a quality backup may be a better option.
We should not let Dortmund pull are pants down on this deal. Strengthen other areas of the squad like LB, LCB, perhaps DM, then go back in the summer when he has only 1 year left on his contract, also meet Haaland's release clause too.

The VDB transfer was very straight forward imo. Affordable price, player who was desperate to come, club who we have a very good relationship with who had no intention of standing in his way, who were adamant the whole time they'd sell for a set price.
Alternatives to Sancho (if we even have any), won't be nearly that easy. They would cast far more, for starters, as signing someone who is supposedly comparable to Sancho won't be cheap, we would need to account for if the team would want to let such a talent go with almost no time left in the window etc.
Not to add, the longer we stall, the more difficult it gets to sign important players as teams want to have an idea of what they are working with as their seasons resume

I honestly don’t think there’s anyone properly good enough to bring in for CB. If we bring in a CB I’d rather it’s next year and for a lot of money, one of the best or one with the most potential. They all seem to be not for sale currently or too expensive.
That would be a waste of 40m. I would rather save it and use it for someone else.

Not sure who I initially responded to, but he was saying the Klopp and Pep worked with world-class players. I was just saying they were not world-class when they signed those players. Maybe they are now, but coaching and tactics have allowed them to flourish. God damn, even Henderson was voted writer's footballer of the year!
I have nothing against signing Sancho, he would be a great signing if he reproduces his Dortmund form here, But sometimes you can sign players with potential and coach and play to their strengths to make them appear world-class.

And yes. De Bruyne was as world class when City signed him as Sancho is now. And sure, we could've tried to sign him. Who knows, maybe we even did? What does that have to do with anything? Just becuase we could've been in for him, or any other world class player out there, doesn't mean we would've automatically got them, does it? Almost any player in the world has been attainable for Manchester United through the past 30 years. The problem is that a) not all players want to come here, b) some clubs bid more money or give bigger salaries, or c) they believe it's a better career move to go elsewhere, d) we chose other players we believed were better signings at the time.
I really don't get your point, mate. City and Liverpool have signed both world class players, world class talents, and players that fit their system perfectly. Arguing they haven't is a weird hill to die on.
When we signed Bastian, everyone was wetting themselves on here saying we signed a world-class player. He could not reproduce his form here for whatever reason and was let go. People claiming that Liverpool and City signed world-class players is laughable. Few of them might be now, but it's laughable when someone says someone like Otamendi was world-class. He has never been and never will be. Just because a player is in demand does not mean he is world-class.

We were never seriously in for Van Dijk and we certainly didn't have one of the top five 18 year old's in world football tearing up the league at CB the season before. Stupid comparison.

I think we should just sign Sancho and not a backup but that's a bad example. VVD was just coming back off a long injury at the time and he certainly wasn't the player he eventually became. He was good at Southampton, of course, but not as good as he would eventually become at Liverpool. It was a risk signing him for such a big fee, but a risk that paid off in the end. Liverpool did well to analyze his potential, but they were also a bit lucky that he didn't end up being a Phil Jones.

I think you are right. Manchester United are just not good with these kinds of "gambles".
We did a similar gamble in Daniel James being the next Gareth Bale. It didn't pay off. Can't understand how Liverpool gambled with a lot of players and they all paid off: VVD, Robertson, Trent, Wijnaldum, Firmino...when our "gambles" were mostly the likes of Daniel James, Phil Jones, Memphis Depay...

Very delusional that you can't see the difference between Greenwood & Sancho. One is inside forward and his job is to cut inside and score, while the other one is a winger that offer creativity on width.
We have no quality to offer in the wide area, which is the point of signing winger is to fix that. Look at how easy Bayern score tap in goals because they got so much quality players to offer in the width area. If we have Sancho, we would have score and win the Sevilla game because he would have offer us different option to score, not just relying on through ball and our predictable chances were saved by Sevilla keeper.
Quality over quantity. We needed & wanted a centre back and we would have been in better option if we put on hold the DM position in 2017 by spending the money on Van Dijk instead. Same goes with Sancho, we need and want a winger, we can put other positions on hold.
Van Dijk was labeled as one of the top PL centre back in 2017.
May be I was the only one among people in here who could see how good he was and who thought it was a smart business from Liverpool during the day when they signed him. I bet you lot had a laugh at Liverpool and criticised the transfer.
