Jadon Sancho| Staying at Dortmund for now

Nothing's changed.

I'm still extremely confident we're signing him.

Only a matter of time.

It'll be great once it kicks off.

Chelsea SIGN Havertz for 70mil and Dortmund want to rinse us for over a hundred??
They are comparable talents and the price should be the same.
Sancho is a year younger, is statistically better, has an extra year on his contract, and is at a club that is stronger both on the field and financially who does not want to sell. Of course they are asking for a higher price as the two deals are not alike.

As for the Havertz fee only being 70m, it seems like everywhere is reporting a different price anywhere from 70-90m.

Sancho is playing in a better side and WTF does the age difference count for.
The simple truth is if we do not want to get continually rinsed by clubs aka Maguire then we take a stand and walk away.
You don’t just walk away when you have an opportunity to sign a GENERATIONAL talent.

Don’t get me wrong - we should walk away if we truly can’t afford him. Not because it may seem like we’re getting ‘rinsed’. Which by the way, we are most obviously not. Signing Sancho isn’t the same as signing Maguire. The former player isn’t as overrated or over-valued as the latter one was.

Also - just to put things into perspective for you, we most likely would’ve had to pay more than €120m had covid not happened. Specially after finding out there’s 3 years remaining on his contract. And not actually 2.

This is the most confident i've been that we'll sign someone without any actual movement or reason to be delaying. 2020 be weird.

All the press gossip rags this morning saying "United are prepared to walk away" - is this the absent briefing we've been pinning our hopes to?

Leverkusen wanted to sell Havertz, needed the money more than Dortmund does and Havertz had more of a reason to leave due to there being no CL football. That's why it was 'easier' to negotiate that deal. It's not that difficult to understand. It's a lot harder to negotiate with a team that has no intention on negotiating because they are more than happy to keep said player.

In regards to Sancho - the consistent briefs makes me think this is just posturing from us, to eventually blame Sancho and his reps for why the deal didn't go through, them being greedy etc. It's probably the only way that they believe they can save face by pulling out of this.

If they say it's due to Dortmund's valuation, we come off looking like we aren't as financially stable etc. as we seem, not good for PR, shareholders etc. and goes against the notion that Ed keeps pushing that we are some juggernaut with infinite reserves. Alternatively though, if we blame the demands of himself and his agent, we make it seem like we are taking a stand to overpaying players and their greed is the reason they didn't end up joining. I see no other reason why they would keep leaking this info, it does nothing for anyone. Risks alienating the player/pissing him off and just frustrates the fans.
Its been almost a month since Zorc`s public fiasco. Don`t you think its a tad too unrealistic even for Utd who are kings of PR to "posture" all this time just to prove a point? How much more time do they need to eventually drop the bomb? If the deal was as hugely insurmountable to conclude as you are suggesting we`d have simply put this to bed like we usually do with other targets you yourself have said Utd have no reason to keep leaking info if nothing was going on which suggests there is still work being done behind the scenes to make this happen. Whether it actually happens remains to be seen but any suggestion that this is all Utd trying to put up a grand show by know is seen as a completely cynical point of view.

Which fiasco?

When they say "United back off" or something definitive.

Which fiasco?
When he publicly said that Sancho wont leave(like Dembele/Auba/Mkhi) and all the bragging about the secret contract extension(which they also did with Auba) to make it look like they own the whole story

Nothing special about Marina. The player wanted to leave, Bayer can't play hardball. If Sancho publicly states he wants a new challenge, the asking price will fall.

“nothing special about Marina” shows that you my friend have got no clue or have not been paying attention. Or both. Probably both.
omg, “asking price will fall”?
You know nothing bruh, Ousmane Dembele wanted to leave, let everybody know, went AWOL and BVB still got 145 mil (which was their asking price) for him.
Marina is probably most well regarded CEO of football clubs, she has been doing these wonderdeals for a while now. Plus she made the wonderdeal with Nike which has another century to run i think :$
Even if you judge her on this window alone, then she has already won this window + i think she is gonna get a GK also.
i think my point is, credit where credit is due and don’t embarrass yourself

This will happen, or if not, we’ll have a flurry of signings late on in the window.

- fans will be furious if the extent of our window is VDB.
- Chelsea have set a marker for closing the gap
- Solskjaer will lose his job if not backed heavily this summer
- All the positive PR in the world won’t stop protests next season
- No one can complain about market value after the ‘exploit’ talk earlier and other teams still doing good business

The only way this doesn’t happen or other signings don’t happen is if we’re sitting on a class of 92 and everyone at the club knows it.

Didn't that happen on August 10th which was not even a month ago?

Bolded so true. Chelsea and other sides showing that they can spend in these difficult times so how are they going to explain a club the size of ours can’t do the same. Not acceptable.

Ole has to be backed, if he isn’t I truly hope the fans properly turn on the owners rather than Ole, it will be the biggest disgrace in all of our post-SAF 6 year shambles period if we don’t back Ole now.

And yeah... we definitely aren’t sitting on another class of 92.

Swear it feels like ages ago
Point still stands though all these leaks aren`t "posturing" from Utd any man and his dog should be able to see this by now unless you`re an extremely dismissive character. We`re still clearly trying to get this done question is whether it happens but I`m positive it will provided we don`t leave it too late for BVB to find a replacement. Leaks are now coming out Utd don`t see the fee as an issue(we were leaking the exact opposite not so long ago) but the agent fees and I believe Romano/Falk that personal terms with the player are agreed. Once we sort out the agent fees things will move quickly.

This kid is worth getting rinsed for.

Others, not so much. We made the same mistake with Hazard last time taking a "moral stand" with agent fees, and I guarantee you if we had that choice again we wouldn't think twice. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet if it's worth while. I'd rather have Sancho than buy 2 squad players put it that way.

Yeah, the Hazard one stung

Yeah, the Hazard one stung
The crazy thing was that wasn't even that long ago, just before transfer fees exploded.

Hazard for £30m? + like £6m agent fees and we thought it was too expensive. Now you barely get an above average player for that.

I'm sure that will be one of Fergies biggest regrets.

I believe he will stand to his word unless United out of the sudden offers significantly more than the previous demanded 120m or Sancho starts to strike, just like Dembele.

Not only the above - This time next year the virus is still going to be around, there isn't going to be a vaccine readily available, and crowds still won't be going to matches. The chances are there will be even less money floating about for transfers than this transfer window. Dortmund will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't take the money on offer now in my opinion.

Trust me it will take EXACTLY 120m to get him strike or no strike. It is telling though that we are trying to completely sort out personal terms with Sancho and his agent first so that when we do go in with a bid we`ll have the upper hand of the player wanting to leave so that in the event BVB try to block a transfer Sancho and his agency can go to BVB and say "We all have a personal contractual agreement with Utd let us go"

All those, saying it's fine to walk away if we think we are bing "fleeced", what if we'd walked away from other deals that seemed very expensive at their times? We've had to break records a number of times and to walk away now would very possibly mean never getting our man - not to mention a huge waste of time that could have been spent getting other people in, which will also take Woodward weeks of haggling over £10.50p... Dortmund have never moved from their stance and once again are "geniuses" in suits are going to make us look stupid

Good post. Getting "fleeced" twenty years ago was paying 30 million for Rio, now it's paying 120 million for Sancho. That's life, Dortmund can name any price they want. The question is do we want to win trophies or not? Because this guy is the real deal and he'll be worth every penny.

For starters, your arguement is based on the premise that I suggested they were always trying to push this point, I never claimed that. So no, I don't believe they've been pushing this agenda for all this time, as they genuinely had intention of buying him. When these leaks about wages etc. began is when reports began to die out. They wouldn't benefit from briefing that they were no longer pursuing Sancho. 1. The fans very much want him, it would cause negative PR, it's much easier to stall the process and make it seem like we did everything we could but the player/his agent's greed was insurmountable. 2. The revenue and intrigue being generated is to the benefit of the business, nipping this in the bud earlier would not be beneficial in that regard.

I do very much believe we are still talking to him btw, what I don't agree with is the fact that United have intention to pay what is required. I'm hopeful we sign him as he's my dream signing, but if it hasn't been sorted by the time the PL starts, I don't think it'll happen

How can you predict this? USA have a vaccine in collaboration with Germany that is expected to be rolled out in the next couple of months to essential workers and the vulnerable.

The only valid reason to walk away is we literally can’t afford it, any ideas of walking away and keeping our heads held high is nonsense considering we will miss out on an unbelievable player.

The negative PR would be even more toxic if they dragged such a transfer all window only to flatter to deceive in the last minute and potentially miss out on other targets as a result of so much emphasis being placed on a transfer that was never happening. Factor in that the transfer window will still be open when the season starts imagine if we got off to a bad start and we then leaked that we`ve walked from the deal after all the back and forth the backlash would be negative to levels of extreme proportion which would be a serious concern to even shareholders as they value positive PR business and football wise it would make a lot more sense to clear the air before hand. As for the fee Utd have known all this time how much his fee is and BVB will not drop it even if Sancho was to strike even Utd know this. Why would Utd do an equivalent of a beggar entering into a thrift shop with items worth tens and hundreds of dollars with just 50 cents in their pocket expecting to buy anything? They wouldn`t be pushing hard to make it happen if they didn`t have the finances for it Utd being Utd will obviously try to drop like we did with Maguire/Bruno but in the end we paid up for the latter 2 and it will be no different this time. James Cooper who IMO is our most reliable journalist 2 days ago said Utd dont view the fee as an obstacle anymore which is a change of tune from when this all started and I genuinely trust his word on this like Romano/Falk that terms with the players are sorted. Once we sort the agent fees this will move quickly.

The thing is if we literally couldn’t afford it we’d have walked away buy now surely. We know exactly what Dortmund want for him and that number isn’t budging, I don’t know what’s happening with this transfer but there’s that old saying “No news is good news” which gives me a little bit of hope still. I’d be extremely pissed off if in a week or two it turns out this deal isn’t happening and we walk away leaving barely any time to get other potential deals across the line.

Did you really have to put it like that..?

I mean, jeeeeez, do we?

I’d say if McT & Tuanzebe legitimately stamp their footprints this season with Rashford, Greenwood & Williams also continuing to improve/progress, then maybe in a couple years time with Mengi, Laird, Majbri, we may just have a similar class.

But definitely not at the moment. So yeah back to reality for now, more signings needed King Ed!

Edit: by similar class I don’t mean, position for position, just aggregate in numbers we may have a solid 6/7 players core to represent our academy.
