Sancho would play primarily from the right, but let’s say Rashford needs a break. You move Sancho to the left and have Greenwood on the right without the quality dropping like it would if a James or Brooks comes in.

Sancho massively improves the first 11 and improves the quality of our squad options.

We just need to get this done. If it doesn’t happen after 6 weeks of public negotiations we are going to look like incompetent idiots and we will never live it down.

Absolutely. Sancho can play in multiple positions and to a much higher standard than anybody we are looking at in a creative sense/forward areas.

Just from a longevity perspective, we wouldn't have to spend on forward positions for years to come. Let's lockdown that young group of forwards as our springboard for something special. Then challenge ourselves in the market, let people at the club earn their money and get some loan deals and 'good business' for added squad depth. Bayern have shown if you are savvy in the market you can add depth for relative pennies.

The Sancho money will sting but its an investment in a very versatile, world class talent that will save you money in the long term, once you add up the '£50million here' and '£40 million there' signings that we will gamble on in the absence of Sancho. This is how I would be selling it as Ole to Ed and the board.

But my point was that in Sancho we aren’t buying a single position player. We’d be getting someone that can cover multiple positions to a potentially world class level. So the signing would improve the first 11 and provide better quality squad depth.

We have enough average players already at the club without adding more with the likes of Gabriel or Brooks.

I’d rather we spent our whole budget on Sancho this summer and then spent next summers entire budget on a holding midfielder that massively improves the first team. It will take longer to build the team but it fills the squad with quality rather than quantity.

No. It’s just how people talk. Especially if you’re under 25 and from London, Birmingham or Manchester, with a diverse group of friends and/or on social media. “You love to see it/you hate to see it” is a colloquialism people have been using for a minute. Much like the “rent free” in your post.

Did you ask Ed why he said that? You're speculating. I'm giving you a direct quote from the man in charge of a lot of big decisions at United.

I never said we don't spend a lot. We do. And we spend terribly. But not one of my arguments do you refute with "But we spend so much money."
 
It's back on. First quotes/info regarding this saga for ages, and it can certainly be interpreted with optimism.

Did you ask why Ed said? Why would I be speculating and you are not?

When your argument is the only owners only care about the Champions League money, it would be counter intuitive for the club to invest as heavily as it had.

Not the words of a player who will make a fuss about transfer also. And when you add Zorc's comment into it then it doesn't look good for us.
 
Sancho is so happy to stay at Dortmund that their executives have to remind us that every alternate day :rolleyes:

I hear what you're saying and these are big figures of money to be throwing around but we would still be left with 42M for a CB. And if we offload some deadwood we'd obviously have a bit more to spend too.

Just adding Sancho to the squad would make a huge difference. Bargain if you ask me.

EDIT : just seen my previous post, brilliant mate thats tickled me :D wouldn't put it past The Glazers!

Does anyone else wonder, surely Manchester United have financial experts hired to complete due diligence on such massive deals. Part of that due diligence is likely around analyzing the ability of the seller to hold out in the window in this environment for 120m before succumbing to less out of desperation.

I wouldn't be surprised if we have had guys completely undress Dortmund's financials and say "yeah, you're going to need cash in the pandemic, especially with uncertainty over stadiums". From that, I would like us to continue playing chicken until they just give him up for less.

The fact that almost daily they have senior people talking about Sancho, tells me that they are trying to force our hand. I feel they they want to sell him and get cash into the club this summer.

You don't need experts to tell you that clubs will be making losses because of Covid. The question is whether they will sell their players or go to the banks to cover them.

It's a different environment. The pandemic would have hit Dortmund extremely hard this year, and it would hit Leicester too (who themselves are owned by rich owners). Besides, didn't it work with Wan Bissaka?

No player will come out and publicly agitate for a move before a realistic chance of him leaving comes to fruition. If we are to go by the rumours we haven’t hit the valuation. If we do then one could see Sancho saying he wants to leave regardless of the deadline set by Zorc and co.

We paid a lot of money for Wan Bissaka roughly around the initial reported fee so I dont believe it did

My main point really was that this isnt something new due to the pendemic. This is how we have operated with transfers I am yet to see it work. Maybe you could argue it worked with Bruno Fernandes but we also signed him about 7 months late

It would be pretty amateur if we didn't on a deal worth £100m+.
