Reasonable asking price, team willing to sell, player keen to join, personal terms agreed. Only that useless cnut Woodward could make a summer saga out of this.

The chance to sign a seemingly once once in a generation English talent for what? 20% more than we paid for a decent centre back.
 
People still think our owners care about anything more than CL money?

Whereas with football executives people seem to assume they are compulsive liars it's the other way around for journalists who claim to have knowledge with vague statements about basically every big transfer that's going on in the world and people are quick to try and find reasons why contradictions technically could have an innocent explanation.

Not really. One looks at track record. When the Dortmund CEO has a track record of making u-turns people obviously take his definitive statements with a pinch of salt. Just like they do when Woodward says "watch this space". It's about knowing that while they may live up to their words, in the real world, thighs change very quickly and PR is important for every organisation. Same with goes for journalists really. Plenty of them don't get taken seriously due to their prior reputation. But there are others who get taken seriously for the same reasons. That doesn't mean they can't get it wrong or every deal they are saying is in the pipelines MUST GO THROUGH. Just like everything a CEO says isn't bullshit or true.

In this case I don't see any reason to doubt that we've been negotiating with Dortmund. The whole footballing world does. And Dortmund setting a price for their player sounds like the most obvious thing ever. This isn't Messi and Barcelona who simply won't sell. It's Dortmund who do sell and Sancho who wants to go. Whether we rate him as highly as that price is another matter.

Reasonable price regarding his value, probably not a reasonable demand for us to smash our transfer record given the current climate.

So shite as I was convinced this was happening, but we simply can't afford Sancho.

We can easily afford it with installments, we are just choosing not to as we probably want to make more than 1/2 signings

I hope we sign him in the end (And finally end our longstanding RW search) but why do so many on the caf seem to forget we’re talking about a British transfer record and one of the most expensive football deals of all time like it’s chump change... not withstanding the fact we’re in the middle of a once in a century viral pandemic that’s laid waste to sporting revenues the world over. We’re barely a week into our offseason and people are flipping out already.

Chelsea, coming off a transfer ban, are being talked about as some sort of transfer maestros, have managed 1 summer signing thus far with the rest being social media speculation. I mean they’ve been chasing Havertz for months and the sums being talked about are way less than Sancho yet why hasn’t that been finalised yet?

And if the stories about ridiculous agent fee demands are true I’m fine with refusing to be fleeced.

I do. I'm sure they understand one of the cornerstones our brand is built upon is success. Eventually, a lack of it will begin hurting our bottom line.

I know he's not some random lad off the street and when he's reporting about things connected to the Italian sphere I give him the benefit of the doubt. But why do you think the Guardian or others hire him as a freelancer? Like Falk he's not merely reporting the story anymore, he's becoming a part of it. They do their podcasts together, they play off of each other on Twitter, they have their catch phrases, Romano did his little The Inside World Of Transfers video, Falk released his Inside FC Bayern book.They are creating a brand for themselves and like every brand these days they measure (part of) their success by social media data. Why do you think Romano offers all these scoops via Twitter for free instead of selling exclusivity to some publisher?

Problem with factoring installments of any sort for future seasons is that, right now, it's simply impossible to forecast any accurate financial projections for the next few seasons. Having to hand over what is now considered £20m to BVB next season may be the equivalent to something closer to £30/40m if we have another disrupted seasons/no fans back.

The only deals that will be doable this window are ones that factor in clubs' 19/20 and 20/21 budgetting.
 
We got to move on and strengthen squad if this transfer is not happening. Sancho transfer was already pushed from last year due to being out of CL. Cant wait another season.
Chelsea are strengthening quite well and will be 3 strong teams with Liverpool and City that we should be contending against.

It’s so very frustrating.

It’s ok though, we’ll drop £80 million on Brooks and Gabriel and strengthen the squad But not the first 11:(

I thought that, and it's logical correct. But then guess who said this.

"Playing performance doesn't really have a meaningful impact on what we can do on the commercial side of the business."

They've proven time and again over the last 7 years that they don't care about us winning major trophies. Sacking managers only when top 4 was mathematically impossible, not backing managers when they might've been on the cusp of seriously challenging again and always spending less in summers when we've finished top 4.

This. Yet you still get posters shouting you down when we bring up the owners and the fact, however way you like to put it, they hamstring us in our spending and ultimately our goal of being the best team in the league. Regardless of how much we have spent we've still been held back from our true potential.

They couldn't give a feck about trophies and good football. They just want their dividends.

As you said, I guarantee it boils down to a simple calculation of whether than can viably buy Sancho and still pay themselves.

We are at a vitally important moment in the progress we've made with Ole, we need those finishing touches to try and compete at the very top, Chelsea are doing it, absolutely no reason why we shouldn't if they can.

I've been banging on for months and months that we should be the best placed team in the league to take advantage of this window, other clubs even suggested the same, if we waste this window it will be a disgrace and we will simply fall further behind the others.

This will be the kicker, we will spend 80-90% of the outlay on players that won't strengthen our starting 11. I include Grealish in that.

It's clear Ole is of the thinking that it's Sancho as the priority, so he wants to improve the starting 11, doing the opposite whilst spending close to the same is a nonsense.

The bolded part is why I can only see this happening after we`ve made a couple of sales first and after it`s clear Ole can`t get a CB/CAM on top of Sancho which is frustrating as hell but it is what it is
 
I doubt this is happening this season. I can’t imagine Woodward et al are still in negotiation. It’s clear to all;cough up or give up

Totally agree mate. People bang on about squad depth/quality but ignore the fact that Sancho can play from the left, the right and even centrally at a top top level.

Sancho would play primarily from the right, but let’s say Rashford needs a break. You move Sancho to the left and have Greenwood on the right without the quality dropping like it would if a James or Brooks comes in.

Sancho massively improves the first 11 and improves the quality of our squad options.

We just need to get this done. If it doesn’t happen after 6 weeks of public negotiations we are going to look like incompetent idiots and we will never live it down.
 
Looks like this is going to be put back another year - at which time, some other club will come in and buy him. And our idiots will feign shock or anger
 
Does seem like we never planned on any alternatives to him and didn’t expect Dortmund being this stubborn in this environment. Let’s see how the window ends but it has a feeling of incompetency, again.

Then why have we one of the highest wage bills in world football and have broken transfer records in that time?

Not incompetency but a reluctance to spend the asking amount.
In a different commercial environment we’d have had this done by now but the worlds a changed place.
