I actually think the deal is not off. It’ll depend on some departures but so far we’re on a sensible plan and I like it.1. We won’t pay anything near to 120m for him (our last quoted offer was 70m)
2. Dortmund won’t sell for anything less than 120m, and they are in no rush to sell (They still have 3 years contract and they sold Dembele for higher amount anyway)
3. Sancho won’t mind waiting for another year (he won’t push for move, or hand in any transfer request)
I think deal is off this summer. Let’s come back again in the next one.
Sanchez is off, huge savings.
Smalling is almost a done deal based on the latest reports. That’s another 20m in the bank.
I think there’ll be another 2 maybe 3 (if we’re smart) more departures. Couple from Lingard/Rojo/Dalot/Pereira & Mata if one of Lingard/Pereira stays.
Thats not me saying we don’t have funds. I think we don’t want to spend majority of our initial transfer budget on Sancho as we need 1/2 more players also. Hence as I said we first need to get rid of more deadwood.
We’ll also take our time getting the deal done. Don’t want to be seen spending such sums in this climate unless we show we had no other chance. I’ve already mentioned this previously in this thread, Dortmund have already played all their cards so we can truly test their resolve now until we get to create a decent offer.
It’ll also give us time to bring agent fees down that have been recently reported as being an obstacle.
