There is a reasonable chance that the entire next season will be played behind closed doors meaning the clubs turnover takes a hammering. Paying 120m for a 20 year old from a different league in that context is crazy in my view. Yes he might be best player in world in next few years but there is also a chance that he might end up being sh1t.
I'll be over the moon if we sign him for a fee that reflects the new economic reality that the entire world is now operating under. We are going to look like the worlds most stupidly run club yet again if we pay what Dortmund are currently asking which does not take account of the impact of covid 19.
Dortmund can get stuffed if a 1000% profit on a player they have had for only 3 years isn't enough for them.
Posts like this, littered throughout the thread, make no sense to me. We're the ones who want to buy; the seller sets the terms. At what point in that process do you think the buyer has the right to throw a hissy fit or start calling shots?
If there is give and thus room to operate in, sure, try your luck, otherwise, you look like a chancer from a flea market coming into an upmarket establishment trying to haggle when there was never any hope of it coming off.
The notion it's this summer of bust for Dortmund with one of the most coveted assets in football, outright, is wishful thinking. Next summer, Sancho could have had a storming Euros and yet another stellar season with his club. There will also be a probability of all the big names having moved or being in the process of doing so, and by big names, I mean players from clubs who are viable destinations with the kind of money it takes to bring a 9-figure player in.
We can gamble on Dortmund salivating and being desperate for the money whilst saying we'll walk away, but it doesn't mean much, Covid world or not. Sancho is an appreciating asset, with a fair portion of his worth revolving around his age and the fact, even with his absurd output, there's room for growth. He could fairly be worth more next summer than he is now that being a third stellar season in a row plus an outstanding Euros easily offsets the number of years then left on his contract. Dortmund's hands aren't tied, and it is so odd to read post after post where people sincerely believe we hold all the aces here and should be shot-callers when it's simply not the case.
I can't really get with the supposed roller-coaster this is for some people, even though I believe Sancho to be the best possible signing we could make, even in an open market. I also doubt we have any intention of calling this off and the deal will be concluded, but these ultimatum and posturing posts don't make an iota of sense to me. The only time you make those kind of statements is when you're genuinely prepared to walk away - walking away from the best possible talent we could buy would be inherently stupid and self-defeating and I don't see why people think it'll be a dagger to the heart for Dortmund should we in fact do so - sans having a disgruntled kid on their books... ultimately, it'd be seen as United not valuing him enough to pay up.
Anyway, I believe the impasse, if there is one, is about structure of the deal not the amount we will end up paying in total for the player.
